I was hoping that this "sequel to T2" would follow what happened in that show, but as we all saw, that is far from what happened. I hope this series will just rest now. Just let it die.

Terminator 2 should've got a real sequel a long time ago in the late 90's set in the future war. I mean where the plot could go from T2? T1 was a horror movie, T2 action movie so T3 could've been futuristic sci-fi movie and also a prequel to T1. Arnie was great as an emotionless cyborg in T1, in T2 he was a good cyborg trying to understand the values of human life, so in T3 he could've played an actual guy from whom the T-800's likeness was based on. It could've been a complete story arc for Arnold's character starting from an evil emotionless cyborg to some dude in the future war from whom Skynet was inspired to use his likeness for it's T-800 model. It also could've end the story in full circle during the final battle by sending T-800 and and Kyle Reese in 1984. A wasted opportunity. Could've been a great trilogy. Such a shame.

the problem with dark fate is it literally shits on t1 & t2 there is nothing connecting the films except Sarah & the t800,the continuity from t1 to t2 went so well because they continued the story & brought history from t1 to t2 with sarah in the mental hospital & the menacing t-1000 & story,this movie just shits on the protecting of john conner & the whole plot & point of the john conner story

I know I’ll never know exactly what the truth is but this is how I’d imagine Cameron’s “involvement” as a part producer and part screenwriter for this movie: Cameron is working tirelessly and passionately on his next 4 avatar movies in story boards and execs from the studio that made the first then when he feels like it, he goes into a room where the other 2-3 actual writers are working on the terminator movie. He says “you guys okay?” They say “yep!” Cameron says “Okay I’ll be over there if you need me!” Then gleefully goes back to his avatar work. He has a point about Linda Hamilton, despite her age and relative obscurity in Hollywood Post T-2. She really was for me and many other people, their first strong female protagonist before Lara Croft, and unlike the latter, didn't need a fresh remake for their character to remain relevant in pop culture, and nearly 30 years later, shows that she still has the chops to hold her own in the new age of cinema. I wouldn't have it any other way, and I'm just glad to see her return after 3 decades when she didn't have to.

Well, there was Sigorney Weaver in the Alien films before and after that... But sure. I really like Linda's character and the way she plays it. Having just seen Dark Fate finally... I really like her portrayal of an older Sarah Connor and I totally agree with you and Cameron on that, the uniqueness of a 60-something kickass action hero. The move is a LOT better than I expected and deserved a bigger box office than it got, imo.

Sarah Connor is, along Lara Croft or Ripley, truly a strong female protagonist type and the audience actually sees this by themselves, they don't need to be reminded about it every now and then, belittling men at the same time, just like modern hollywood is trying to do, screwing up succesful franchise they touch

The sad thing is he's likely the only one to get out of this disaster in one piece. He's still got Avatar, but I tell you if he messes that up his will have ruined his own legacy (and lets remember he didn't invent Ellen Ripley, he only made the sequel).

While Dark Fate had some enjoyable moments, the writing was so bad that it really destroyed the whole film. I think one of the biggest problems was how the T-800 supposedly started to change diapers.

Arnold said in an interview once that he wasn't sure if he should do Terminator 3... so he called James Cameron, who apparently said, "Who cares, as long as they pay you a lot of money." Said everything I needed to know the moment they brought James back to the franchise. Also, haven't seen Dark Fate yet... but they specifically said in T2 that skynet uses a program to prevent the t-800s out on a mission from learning or developing their own thoughts... So much so they made a scene where they had to reset it in the mechanic shop scene where Sarah was taking bullets out of the t800... so how is the learning of the t800 explained in Dark Fate? Just a total plot hole?

I think an overarching problem with the Terminator film series is the absence of Michael Edwards (as an older John Connor), Linda Hamilton (as his mother Sarah Connor), DeVaughn Nixon (as an older Danny Dyson. The unnecessary sequels after Jugment Day are downright blunders that came across more as bait that took advantage of the loyal fans and new audiences' enthusiasm and hope for a spectacularly good sequel that would be just as good as the first and second parts. Instead of staying true to the storyline in the sequels, they made bad decisions that took away the value of the Terminator classic. The parts that were shot into our cinemas as successors should actually have been left unmade because the 3rd part should have simply been the finale. Starring Michael Edwards (as an older John Connor), Linda Hamilton (as his mother Sarah Connor), DeVaughn Nixon (as an older Danny Dyson). and Arnold, they could have made themselves immortal with a third final part. In the 1st part, Arnold is the cold-blooded serial killer cyborg, who we all fell in love with, because that role suited him like a glove. Then they surprised us in the 2nd part with the return of Arnold as the Terminator but as John's protector, which was well thought out and fun. But along the way they neglected Arnold's role as the cold-blooded cyborg killer and wanted to portray him more as the good guy, which is an overpowered character from Judgment Day. Arnold was only the good guy once because The Resistance had hacked his model, which was a legitimate reason, but if you know that people want to see Arnold as the bad guy because it just works perfectly, then why would you change that in a sequel? Arnold should have simply returned as an even further developed version and successor to the T1000. To top it all off, they could have added that Skynet took ruthless revenge by sending a Terminator with the appearance of Reese. Now you don't have 1 Terminator but 2 Terminators with which Skynet does everything it can to get rid of John and Sarah. Replacing Skynet with Legion was also completely unnecessary. Skynet is Skynet and then you can't come up with a lame story in which The Resistance was able to trace Skynet's mother hub and shoot a missile at it, destroying it. You should just stay away from that and leave it at the story that although the Terminators of the first and second parts were destroyed, that does not mean that Skynet is also disabled and will not stop until it has achieved its mission and all-out war with The Resistance under its leadership from John as promised. I don't know guys... I'm just playing with the endless possibilities here that could have made a third and final Terminator trinity.

People hate on him for not being passionate of the franchise anymore and not looking for the art in things. James Cameron is basically a businessman and is in a way the true face of Hollywood directors. Nowadays we have directors talk about their love of the art and storytelling when they are basically mercenaries working for big money eating companies that don't give a damn about the creative quality of the story, marvel movie directors are a big example of that. Cinema is very much a form of art but let's face it, in Hollywood it's the money that speaks and is movie making is fundamentally a job like any other, if you are payed to sell a product then you are going to go along with it and say anything no matter what, that's what Cameron does. He's just not that good of a hipocrit to try and hide it. I also think a big element of that is the fact I believe he became a director more by circumstance than anything else, you can see it by how he holds more passion for technology and science than storytelling. I admit to being one of the ones who despised Avatar but I nontheless respect the man for his achievements.

Thanks for the first 2 movies, I guess. You created the Terminator franchise, and it is you who put the nail into its coffin.

I still like him, but he can't pretend that Rev 9's endo-liquid hybrid was not copypasted from T-X. Which had freaking flame throwers for good measure.

I don't care what people say. Terminator Dark Fate is the best movie in the franchise since T2. It has better character development and new villain, REV-9 is almost as good as T-1000. Love it!

James Cameron is the Kathleen Kennedy of the Terminator franchise. Tim Miller was merely Rian Johnson. John Connor has been Luke Skywalkered.

Since James is the original creator, wouldn't a Prequel-era George Lucas comparison be more fitting?

And at the same time he also praised Genisys lol

After 4 yeas 2024 he wil make a same speech again and again and again,🤯 we are boring to hear the same shit over and over again,😵 and you will say it truely a direct sequel to t1 and t2💀.... Im out of this franchise.😖 I stick only to t1 and t2 from now on🤑

I’m really not sure what happened here. Did he just say Fresh idea? They literally destroyed T2 then re-made it into a complete goof-ball movie. I was so excited for this too. Totally gutted.

Everyone is hating on James and Dark Fate. I honestly liked Dark Fate, it’s not as good as the first 2 movies, but it’s way better than Rise of The Machines, Salvation, and Genisys.

I had no interest in watching Genesis but I went to see it because James Cameron endorsed it. I will not be going to watch Woke Fate- I mean Dark Fate.

I might see it just to see Linda Hamilton kicking ass after all these years, but definitely disappointed by what they did with John Connor.

@@kendallandrews8691 You know, unfortunately what they did to Sarah is just as horrible. Some of her lines in the film are just painful in how much they butchered her character.

Thing I don't get is he hated how Alien 3 treated the characters from Aliens then does the same thing in the prologue

OMG its all most like he was talking about some other movie I want to see the movie he was talking about... not the one he allegedly is talking about

He should had came back to write and direct as he did on the first two films.

And everything in first part of this interview is a lie as Dark Fate does exactly what he said he didnt want it to do.

Im gonna give you a better script ideas than what we got. 1998 Arnold Schwarzenegger saves John & Sarah, they go to Texas & we find out skynet had new secret labs in Mexico & other places we didn't know about b4. We find out John Connors will have a daughter that becomes the New leader after John retires or dies. Kate is the mother & Grace comes the early 2000s & protects Kate & Dani from terminators just like Arnold. Hell everything I said makes more sense than what they ended up doing.

Arnie is amazing, Jimmy is amazing, Linda is amazing. T1 was amazing, T2 was amazing. But Dark Fate and all the stuff after T2 was not amazing for too many obvious reasons. After T3, the future war should have been the topic, not time travel, gender or killer machines becoming nice guys. We wanted the future war with humans winning the war through unique human abilities and human nature. Instead, we got several failed mixes of T1 and T2. It's a shame. Genisys is was a total insult. Salvation made the T800 into a joke. One punch should have killed John. Instead, the killer machine threw him around. T3 should have casted Edward and they should have helped him get up again...

Having just watched Dark Fate... I think it got a bad rap. It's a ripper of an action film with a few great lines and really good performances, especially Linda Hamilton. I think it's better than T3 (which was a terrible retread of T2) and far better than those awful Genisys and Salvation films. I totally go the idea that Cameron described in this interview, that we're heading in that direction, and while Skynet was stopped Legion still happened a few decades later. There's still a lot of potential with this and I see there's an animated series in development.

I can see the pain of marvel’s fans...cos James Cameron is the only genius n his films r sheer masterpiece💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

James Cameron only lent his name to this project in order to attract the audience. Also... What on earth has Marvel got to do with this?? If you read the comments in this thread, no one mentioned or made any comparison to Marvel movies. It was just you. Almost everyone here is a huge Terminator fan. Watching this movie franchise sink this low is quite sad. I saw Dark Fate over the weekend and honestly, I PERSONALLY thought the movie was awful. Arnie's t-800 after killing John, settles down and marries. He also has a step son!! I MEAN WTF?!!! So yeah, fans have every right to bash Cameron for backing this garbage! Fun fact: DF was projected to make 40 million dollars this weekend, but it made a humiliating 12 million.

If John Conner was already killed and Sarah Conner was a terminator hunter, then why on earth were all these t800 terminators being sent back in time in the first place? The mission was completed as John Conner was dead, what was the point? The film never told us what type of terminators were being sent back in time for Sarah to destroy. Very bad writing..

Still can't believe James Cameron was involved with this movie.

NOOOO come on you guys give him a break - I've only watched the first 3 minutes of this video, but I think he has already made completely VALID and INTERESTING point about what if....you leave a Terminator for 25 years without a mission, to just take in humans and life and learn and develop....what would you get at the end?? I think that's a FASCINATING premise, and that on it's own is enough (even though being a Terminator fan I would see this movie anyway) to make me really look forward to going to see this movie.....

Absolutely full of it. Did the same PR crap with genesys and spent years enforcing the idea that killing off important well developed characters that audiences got to know was bad... Then dark fate goes ahead with one of the most ridiculous opening scenes. Hypocrite.

Yeah and Terminator looked so stupid coming off the beach looking like he's been on vacation all week dark fate was so bad I jad hard time finishing the movie

love the idea saying making a New and Fresh then living with nostalgic. like he said how a terminator ages ( Not focusing genisys ). The movie is not Perfect But I still enjoying the movie.

James just loves that shirt!

Why i feel Dejavu with the Cameron's interview of Terminator Genisys?

I fear for his next 2 AVATAR that's coming.

No James, u forgot that the T800 can’t become more human unless it’s cpu has been altered, just like Sara Connor and John Connor did to the T800 in T2 in the extra scene at the gas station. And that T800 was incinerated at the end of T2. So, who altered this T800’s cpu??? I’m waiting......
