2 years later and I’m so glad this movie affected things for you as much as it did for me, as much as T3 and TS probably weren’t the best possible movies, they respected how important John was. T3’s ending is literally all about how John NEEDS to survive the nukes to lead the resistance, it’s actually so sad that the original creator of terminator thought this was okay while calling those films a bad dream

T2's plot was about three relationships: Sarah and John, John and Uncle Bob, and Sarah and Uncle Bob. With Sarah and John it was primarily about how do you raise a kid like with all these expectations while at the same time protect him and try to prevent Skynet from rising. For John it was about accepting what his mom said was true and that she's looking out for him like this for a reason. This is his future, he needs to listen to her and appreciate her love for him. With John and Uncle Bob it's more about Uncle Bob and seeing how a machine, even a terminator, can learn the value of human life. In Sarah's messed up world, Uncle Bob was an ideal father figure for John. Compare Uncle Bob to John's foster parents and it's a no brainer. Which leaves Uncle Bob and Sarah. Sarah was so traumatized and has so many nightmares, how can she ever move past the events of the first movie and come to accept that Uncle Bob (the same kind of terminator that killed Kyle) is John's best hope for survival? Throughout T2 Sarah comes not only to accept that but appreciate Uncle Bob as an individual, someone who can learn and rise above their limitations.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show is pretty awesome if you haven't watched it. The first two movies and it are all I think of when Terminator is mentioned.

The only reason they killed John Connor off was just so they could repeat the same story all over again but this time with a woman as the future leader of the resistance

You know what's frustrating is, it's not like the first two movies were anti-woman. Sarah survived at the end of T1 and in T2 it was a team effort with her pushing the T-1000 near the ledge with her shotgun blasts and Arnold's grenade giving it the final push. Had she not pushed it first, Arnold would have wasted a grenade. Just cause people sometimes overlook what Sarah accomplished does not make her a bad female character. That's on them, not the movie or character.

It is a direct sequel to Terminator 2. T3 & Salvation made the mistake of leaving Sarah out of her story. Genisys brought her back into it, but made the mistake of trying to make it Kyle's story and turning John into a Terminator.

Last Terminator movie I saw was "Salvation." I thought it was good. Heard about "Genysis" and thought "Just let it end already." Then I found out about "Dark Fate" and rolled my eyes. Hearing about John being killed off was like finding out Han Solo dies in "Force Awakens."

The whole point of John Connor is that he is just as a universal inevitability just like judgement day. He's a paradox, his existence makes no sense since he only exists BECAUSE of time travel. But that doesn't matter. Skynet is a force of evil, so there is naturally an opposing force of good. John Connor is that opposing force. Killing John Connor off like he was a regular person is stupid, cuz he's not a regular person. He's John fucking Connor. The savior of mankind.

He was in the original timeline. But once Skynet was stopped in T2, the new AI was created elsewhere and has a different name due to being created by a different team than Skynet. This undos what led to Kyle Reese and the original terminator being sent back in time for. Once a timeline is changed, you have to forget the old one in order to understand the new one.

John Connor being a universal inevitability makes sense. But there can be thousands of John Connors. None of them being the actual same guy. In Universe A. Sarah marries a man named Bob. They have a son that they call John. Skynet sends a T800 to kill Sarah. In Universe B. Terminator arrives. Protector shows up. Potential father from A. is now out of the scene when Soldier boy fucks Sarah. Sarah raises John to prepare for Judgement Day. Heck. Universe C. Skynet's future is changed by the presence of the first Terminator and John. Sends another Terminator back for the original plan that failed. Even without John Connor, there'd always be SOMEONE that takes charge. It could have just as easily been a store clerk from Kentucky. Stop your fucking whining.

@Radio Kaos самое интересное в том, что это бессмыслица... логика: 1 терминатор провалил миссию, скайнет в другое время отправил совершенный вариант терминатора, который также провалил миссию, но скайнет об этом узнать не мог ибо он перестал существовать. если логически рассуждать, то почему в разное время направили разных терминаторов, с целью убить джона конора? это не логично, поскольку первый по праву считаться должен быть провальный. логично отправить 1998г т-1000... или неужели скайнет создал один вариант Т-1000? тогда не разумно было отправлять такую машинку в будущее, а скайнет считается умной программой. знать, что мальчик прикипел к терминатору, скайнет не мог... и нет смысла, верить, что конор погиб...логичнее было объяснить, что мальчик устал от сумасшедшей матери и ушел в другую жизнь...а мать все этот бред придумала, и списала на терминатора....что сына у нее нет...

Yep, Alien 3 did to Aliens, what this movie did to T1 & T2. After Alien 3 being the worst out of the Alien franchise, you would've thought Cameron would be smarter than to make such a stupid mistake. Aliens and Terminator 2 improved on the original films, but all third and subsequent sequels ruined the main franchises (and by that I mean without movies like AVP)

Ends with both creatures falling to a dissolving pool, melted to nothing as the government cleans up the mess, blames the killings on a convicted serial killer who was released and recaptured, and the people who saw the aliens taken into custody

@@NeuroticNicky87 This movie didn't do anything to T1 & T2 other than restoring Sarah to her story. James Cameron said when T2 came out that the movies were always about Sarah. T2 would not have even been made if he couldn't get Linda Hamilton to return. This one is the real T3.

The anxiety the characters feel when trying to get a hold of how time travel works in their own universe and its consequences was one of my favorite things in the entire franchise to witness. It lead to hours and hours of me and my family and friends trying to debate how time travel would or wouldn't work.

Sarah Conner Cronicles: they could have picked it up from there. And have Cameron and T-800 fighting side by side with John Conner against this new threat and show even more terminators like they were in the tv series. What I liked about the show, not all the terminators were out to kill John, but had different missions and objectives they were trying to accomplish to undermine things. It was kind of like Star Trek DS9's founders were doing to the federations and the other powers in the alpha quadrant before the Dominion war.

*Spoilers* When they killed John Conner... I knew the film would go to s***....they doomed us to a Dark fate.... The franchise is now ruined... AGAIN!!!

100% agree about Salvation. I’m not sure why it got such bad reviews. It was a great way to pick up the franchise. To finally see the war and how the humans win is something I’ve been dying to see.

Salvation falls apart in the 3rd act. Cool concept, the future war, but there wasn't much of a story to tell and all the stuff with Marcus is unnecessary fluff.

This video was the 1st to even mention the time paradox. Thank you for that! Killing off John is be like killing Marty Mcfly if they made a 4th (hopefully not) Back to the Future. They had a good chance to do something good with this movie but they didn't. I think a young generation can appreciate a 80's style Terminator movie with actual continunity.

My heart broke when John died, I really felt like I lost someone.

James Cameron has gone from a visionary pushing the boundaries and telling stories to a Hack focusing on just the best effects.

This movie would have worked if it was just a dream, a vision, or if they somehow time traveled to prevent John being killed and used Skynet to fight Legion.

It baffles me how they thought killing off John was a good idea. His survival was basically the most important thing in these movies, I mean in the first movie his mother had to survive simply so that he could even be born. And now they were like "ah you know what, screw it, John dies and it doesn't matter."

The first movie Sarah had to survive because it was her story. T2 she had to survive because it was still her story. Rise of the Machines, Salvation, & Genisys tried to make the story about John and Kyle too in Genisys. Dark Fate is the true sequel to T2.

Didn't the timeline changed when Terminator tries to kill Sarah when she was a child in Terminator genisys who changed the timeline in this one. Also didn't they made a TV show called Terminator Chronicles of Sarah Connor , John is very much alive in it

It’s been done in the last three Terminator flicks, including Dark Fate. 10. They used one of the Terminator themes for one of the RoboCop trailers. Maybe there were plans for a crossover back in the day.

Here are some of my favorite films I considered the perfect dilogies despite their continual sequels: Superman 1&2, Rami's Spider-Man 1&2, as of right now Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, heck even the Pirates Of The Caribbean 1&2, and of course The Godfather 1&2. These are just a few that I can think of the two films compliment each other so well.

Rami's Spiderman movies were good at first, but he ruined them after they were already doing good. That one can be blamed on the people in charge. The venom thing was absolute garbage. I only think so because Eddie Brock is supposed to be a huge guy even before venom gets him. It ruined it for me when tiny ass Topher Grace was Venom. Oh and that goddamn dancing scene. The clip of the guy who plays Vision in the MCU talking to Harrison Ford at the ending of the movie was even boring as fuck, cause it was just nonsensical bullshit to affect the viewers' emotions. Fucking monologing in the rain. Who does that? Completely unrealistic. Just in that scene alone is NOT how an AI would behave. That's how a person pretending to be what they think AI is. I dig some old movies, but I don't get the appeal of old ass cameras, shitty acting, or bad development. It's like you people have a fetish to be raped or something when you grant "materpiece" to something. None of the Pirate movies were all that good after the first one. That isn't a good duo example. Everything was a money grab and obviously so after the first one. Ok, I'll give you The Godfather. But only cause I never watched them due to being born in the 80s and can't argue against it being a masterpiece. Even what I've seen of it makes it understandable how it's a masterpiece from an older generation. So only The Godfather is untouchable in the list you gave. Everything else needs to be retconned.

The fact that John was killed is the biggest plot hole of the movie. John couldn't have been killed because otherwise there wouldn't be no John to oppose Skynet (and to sent Kyle back so he could be born), and Skynet wouldn't even have existed because the only reason Miles Dyson came up with Skynet was because of the terminator Skynet had sent to kill Sarah, and the only reason Skynet wanted to kill Sarah was to stop John Connor. The loop existed because of John, and without him the many paradoxes resulting from his death and the break of the loop would've made the universe explode. You can argue about different timelines all you want, but different timelines are not canonical. T1, T2 and TDF are canonically linear, which wouldn't make sense because if John is dead then he never grew up to sent Kyle back which means he would have never been born which means he would have never opposed Skynet which means Skynet wouldn't have had a reason to kill him which means they wouldn't have sent a Terminator back to kill Sarah which means Skynet would have never existed. I would believe the "different timeline" explanation if for example, idk, the John killed in DF was clearly not the one who not long ago stopped Skynet, which he was, because we know the John who stopped Skynet was Kyle's son and the paradox makes the universe explode. Or if John had never existed to begin with. Sarah was never pregnant, she never had a son, this is a complete new timeline. But that's not the case because again, the movies are canonically linear and the "different timelines" thingy is just a headcanon. Edit to add: it's not the fact that John is not the leader of the Resistance anymore, it's the fact that he was killed what pissed people off. You can still have a story with Dani as the new chosen one without killing John if you're creative enough, because John's death completely erases the future in which Dani exists. It's just not logical. With John dead there's no Dani, because the future in which Dani exists was created thanks to the events of T2, but if John is dead then he can't make the events of T2 happen, can he? So stupid.

I always thought T3 was T2 just not as good.. I mean I can live with it but it should have been the end of the same exact formula as the first two one hunter & one protector going back in time.. It should have progressed into showing the resistance against skynet, nuclear war and John’s organization with Reese.. If done correctly this would probably have made the first two pale by comparison as crazy as that sounds..

I remember watching salvation when I was 15 I grew up loving and nerding out on the terminator series and 1-4 definitely will forever be the best series

Hell i loved that another channel pointed out that Tim Miller said he could not get behind the trop of a "chosen one" character. Then two sentences later says that this story follows Danni who was chosen by fate to lead (or something to that effect). The point being he dosen't like "chosen one" stories yet he created a "Chosen One" story. He just doesn't get it...

Agreed and killing off luke like that was ridiculous. Also rise of Skywalker was even worse. I was livid

in T2, the T-800 loses an arm while fighting the T-1000. At the end, the arm salvaged from the Terminator in T1 is thrown in the lava pit, but no one thinks to retrieve and destroy the other arm. Therefore, that arm is later found. someone follows Miles's work, and Skynet is created. There you go. There's the real sequel.

Legion is just like the First Order. The only real different is their advanced weapons/ships but they serve the same role as Skynet and the Empire.

Killing John Connor at the start is clearly have no bearing or good reasoning whatsoever with the overall plot. It's all about "subversion" sake. Yes, I totally agree that Salvation is a great movie, probably rank second fav after T2 & T1 at third rank.

The Grandfather Paradox can be explained like this: You go to a store to get a chocolate bar, and get a chocolate bar. Now you wouldn't need to go back to the store to get a chocolate bar, thus making Dark Fate a shitty movie because it takes a giant dump on the timeline.

Thank you for posting this video!! As a HUGE fan of The Terminator Series, I was so excited to hear that a new movie was coming out and the actor that played John in T2 was going to resume his role in Dark Fate. Information was leaked that he was killed early in the movie and I just SMH!! I never went to see Dark Fate. And you explained the reasons why PERFECTLY!! As a fan, I just wanted to see a great storyline that flowed with T and T2, John resume his role from T2, and a great futuristic battle between Man against the Machines. Man winning in the end.

You are correct, the plot made no sense. Grace's age didn't even seem to match up. This movie angered me almost as much as The Last Jedi.

Don’t understand the current trend in movie reboots where they have to crap all over the previous movies.... it’s dumb. I am not excited for any films coming out at the moment. Hardly any originality and full of political bs.

I seriously can’t believe they made Sarah say that shocking line. THE ORIGINAL SARAH CONNOR! It’s like taking a giant poop on Kyle, on John and her past self! The whole point of Kyle’s conversation with Sarah in T1 is that it is not her womb that’s important; it is HER. He's there to protect her because she's a f-king "legend" that he deeply admires, an epic heroine who fights against the dark fate with her son and brings hope to future mankind. She is of great significance, that John wouldn't be John if she weren't such an amazing person herself. NOT because she carries some kind of magical womb that gives birth to a baby with a friggin' saviour halo floating above his head! Sarah is like the last person on earth that would remotely possibly say some f-ed up motherhood-shaming shit like that!

Kyle Reese is the most badass and most disrespected character in the whole franchise, especially after T2. I think it's because the more popular T2 is held in higher regard, and T1 is overlooked because of how old it is

Actually if Sarah hadn't been John's mother she would have no reason to have learned any of the skills needed to teach him how to become the leader of the resistence. She'd probably have still been a completely innocent and naive waitress when Judgement Day came, if Kyle had never informed her otherwise (and of course gotten her pregnant), and therefore would've been completely useless in the upcoming war.

It's a causality loop, it's all interconnected. If you pull any one thread of course it all comes unraveled. That doesn't make Sarah's thread any less important then the others.

Red Harrison Why Genysis? It was so much worse and more convoluted than this one. Not to mention the director did a terrible job, and no one looks good because of it. Not to mention, none of it could’ve happened because of how time travel works. I keep hearing about the problems with the time traveling, or John’s death making everything pointless. The time travel was never correct. No one can send a man from the future to be their father, at least not without a separate timeline existing, where some other person sent Kyle back before John became the savior, or the event created the timeline in which John is the savior. Either way, none of these films rely on solid science, or even half ass science concerning time travel.

I was very disappointed. I went in there thinking this was going to be a great movie. But it was completely different from what I was hoping it would be. I would even have been happy if the girl would have been John's daughter and she was continuing her father's destiny. This could have been taken as a good another sequel-probably. But nope. A completely different turn. Great action but very very disappointed.

All because Edward furlong is out of shape and not in the best of conditions look wise they decided to kill him off instead of being there for him helping him get in shape helping him get his mind right and then having him do this project and being able to make some money and get himself back on track in the process of having everybody stoked that we finally get the real t3 sequel to Terminator 2 but nope Definitely not for John !

From what I gathered. John Connor's death was James Cameron's idea THAT's what shocked the f*ck outta me...

You know, Edward Furlong seems to be in a pretty good place these days. I've seen him do a panel and a couple of interviews recently, and I think he would have been completely up for playing John again. But naturally, John Connor had to be killed off immediately in this new film -- he represents the "white hero myth," and there's no way Hollywood can have that in 2019!

When you think through the one thing that made John Connor, was his father sent back in time, but that is not the original timeline since no one starts of sending someone back in time just to make their current future happen. Something must have start of the first timetravel and ended up creating a loop that centered around John Connor.

He was only made leader because he was the first one to that bunker in Rise of the Machines. The first military person to arrive would have automatically took control over him. Without a military background, John Conner could never be a leader at all, much less one that the IA had to fear. Oh and another reality based thing: no one would have taken orders from a guy who is barely an adult. Especially one who has been homeless his entire adult life. T3 made him someone who would never be in command.

T2 is one of my all time favorite movies, i would watch it none stop on VHS growing up, and to see it get disrespected like this, i know it's cliche to says this but my childhood died with John Conner

My favorite terrible thing said to validate John getting killed early, was because the director don't like the "chosen one" stories that many movies have... This is beyond hilarious when he then turns right around and gives us what is essentially the EXACT same character again! What made John special wasn't just that he WAS the leader of mankind, but HOW he became the leader! The Terminator doesn't give us much to go on as to what made him special, but later we learn that it was his experiences with how terminators work, along with the teachings and training of Sarah that prepared him to lead mankind when the time came. Sarah Connor was INTEGRAL to John becoming who he was!

Right, the only thing I could use for this movie is alternate time lines, but then there's the problem, as discussed, that the terminator wouldn't know anything about Legion.

This video explains terminator 6 so accurately. I wonder how this video didn't reach millions of view yet.

For me Rise of Machines and Salvation are true sequals.

See, that's what ruined Salvation for me. When a terminator grabs something, it stays grabbed. It then either crushes/hits whatever it's got ahold of or smashes it into the ground while still holding on.

Genesis and Dark Fate were both so bad they made Rise Of The Machines seem tolerable and made Salvation seem like a great Terminator sequel.

For the Thing that Carls Know when timejumps happend. I would assume it have to do whith the physic happend during a timejump or before. I think, Skynet, Ligion, Genesis send small probe as first Try back into time to scan the surrounding and be sure the place of the timejump is not underwater, in solid Ground Or in a fondation of a building. The Probe are extrem small and so the needen Time jump bubble was extrem small so small that you can't see them. But they still Emit the eltric rays the normal Timejump bubble create. AND there must be some time past at the aim spot before anther Timejump happend at the same spot for physical reasons. Carl Was a T 800 send back in time. He most liked have the scan datas from the probe they send before him. Its sound solid that he can "see" the specifical Rays from the Timejump probe other Terminators or other object have use. And Yes in T 1 and T 2 one jump end in a fench and the other even cut out a part of a truck. The planet is rotating, its orbit the sun, and the system is part of the galaxy that also spin arround and Move. What when all this movment factors are so hard to calculated even for a Smart Neural net that a Timejump have allways a accuration of Plus/minus 1-2 meter. And let us assume the resistance don't use those probe and allways send there Support blind. It would give the answere why Kyle fall in his jump. or the Helper from T 6 fall from the brige. they send there support blind only trusting old datas and Memorys. If they would send probe the allready jumped Terminator could detackted them and move on to those position to kill them First.

Arnie didn't just terminate John Connor. He terminated the future of the franchise 😔

It really hurts to say this but Big Arnold has been total sellout lately with these latest Terminator movies.

I refuse to watch this movie. The moment I heard that a young John Connor gets violently gunned down in the beginning of the movie I said Nope.

U are 1000% right ! How does anyone think dark fate is good? And what the hell were they thinking? John connor is Terminator franchise!!

After Terminator 2 the only movie that should count is Salvation, true to design origins, amazing cast, amazing plotline etc. I even prefer it over the first one: T2, T Salvation, T1 and then nothing ever happened after it
