Edit: If you have good headphones listen to his breathing around 2:09-2:50, honestly does sound like he's fighting back emotions. Idk if that's a breathing technique for singers but that is exactly how people about to cry breathe in.

This song expresses every emotion I felt when my darling wife died. It was played at her funeral and it remains in my heart everytime I hear it even after a dozen years. Some ignorant people mock James, but for many his music touches the raw emotions that everyone will one day experience.

I'm crying now.

I lost my daughter last month. She was 18 months old. I listened to this song with her before she left. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and smile. I can still hear her laugh as I danced around the room with her. I don’t know at this point how I can carry on without my angel. I had her later in life at 41 and I didn’t realise I had never really loved anybody before her. Daddy will see you soon my beautiful baby.

@@GlennMarshallnz I'd just like to mention that just because someone is filming something like this, it doesn't always mean that they're doing it just so it can be uploaded, but instead, it might be so they can look back at it in the future. I understand the importance of enjoying a moment at the time, but I think it's important to consider that maybe this song means so much to those younger people, that they would like a video so they can treasure it forever. I like to take videos when watching live music, not the entire time, because I do value the moment of being there, but it's nice to be able to look back at it years later when maybe the memory is a bit blurred, and you can experience it all over again.

I've always casually enjoyed this song. But what a performance! He is so captivating and pulls you along every step of the moment. It is interesting, and quite beautiful to watch the audience at the beginning, finding their seats, restless, grabbing their phones, chatting amongst themselves, and at the end everyone is still, silent and mesmerised. This performance, along with his twitter account make me love him more.

I lost one of my two year old twin daughters unexpectedly. We survive because there is no choice. We must go on. Our family needs us. God has not finished with us. Time will help. It takes time. Lots of time. But each new day makes our pain subside a bit. 43 years have now passed in my case. My surviving twin daughter is 45 years old now and her older sister just turned 50. And somehow I am gladdened that I have been there all this time for them and for my beautiful wife. Amen

There's some real and raw emotion on display as he plays it. He manages to play without a pause but you can see the emotion and hear it in his voice

My wife at 40 years of age passed away 21st December 2022 and laid to rest 9th Jan 23, 23 years together and known her 25 years, it's heartbreaking mate but need to be stong for my children.I'm probably just lonely. My heart can't handle the emotion in his voice and my eyes can barely hold my tears from falling down my cheeks. This song never ever leaves my eyes dry. This is my favorite version of Goodbye my lover and I always seem to trail back to it at random times. The song is beautiful on its own and James' performance of this song only adds to it.

I've never witnessed a musician sing a song and mean and feel every line of it. He isn't trying to convince us or expressing/portraying a fake emotion. I've heard this song loads of times, and it's never meant anything to me, but after watching him perform it live I have a new found appreciation for James blunt as an artist. If you thought this was good, check out his live performance of this song on the voice Germany in 2021, it's breathtaking!!!

I think he write for someone because he was the captain of the military.

This is my favorite James blunt song it has been since I was a teenager. Me and my future wife would get super wasted and confess our love to each other but it would not last with our insecurities. 10 years later I married that woman ironically having the processional to bonfire hearts and our first dance to beautiful (preformed by a friend of ours with some lyrics changed to make it not sad as shit lol), and fast forward 10 more years and this song is painfully fitting. I'm alone, bawling my eyes out because these lyrics are never something I thought I would really understand. Mental illness has ripped her away from me and I don't want her to go. Thank you James for going where I couldn't and putting words down that hurt and leave you vulnerable.

You know he' s a true artist when he sounds the same on live. Am a James Blunt fan since i was kid at the time i didn't understand what he was saying because i didn't know english. More than 20 years listening to him. Always on my playlist.

James is so good in delivering the message through his music…love love him, very unique!

Mans a genius. This song can provoke feeling from the pit of anyones heart. There is so much emotion in this performance, it's oustanding.

I really want this recording. It's his best version yet, so much emotion.

Ive always loved this song for the emotion that it invokes, however…..this is the most heart wrentching..ly beautiful rendition I’ve ever heard. I feel so grateful to see such emotion and remember every time the person I lost and how much I loved them when I hear this. Thank you for your gift Mr James Blunt
