    @@merricat3025 there are 1000s of honest books on islam. There are youtube videos from people like the apsotate prophet, bill Warner, jay smith, etc etc. Look up ex muslims, you are supposed to seek your own knowledge. If you expect it to be handed to you on a platter all you will get is someone's opinion. There is a really good book called Muhammed Islam unveiled, written by harry richardson, its not a real long read and its 100% accurate written in such a way that you can follow the history of muhammad. You can read it online for free or order the hardcopy from amazon, totally recommend it. In fact I buy 20 at a time and hand out to freinds, family etc.

    I am an Arab American. I don't care for religion. I see so much of the culture getting excited about people converting, but yet you're not allowed to leave as if it's a mafia. It's basically a religious monopoly type behavior. I do like the women from the culture sometimes, but finding those who are open-minded and not stuck to religion can be tough.

    Yeah I was a white convert. I had such a love for the Arabic culture and Arabic men. But I think I got blindsided mixing the religion and culture together. I did love Islam but I struggled with it constantly and never felt like I was a “good” enough Muslim. Now that I’ve left the religion I feel such a sense of relief and freedom. My parents are also really relived as well. But now I can still enjoy the music, food, language without feeling the need to be tied to the religion.

    It's the same for other religions too. I have a "Christian" friend that he have to lie like he follows the precepts of their family religion to have economic and familiar love support, with other Catholic friend is the same. I heard stories of young Jehovah Witness that struggle too. In general even if you become economic independent of your family, the moment your question the religion as your own, is good bye family bonds.

    30 seconds Tech and yet Buddhist Monks are killing others right now in Myanmar. I think when you create in and out groups, human nature is such that the in group has power and gets corrupted. Overall Buddhism is kind, but when in power, it’s not. One of my favorite books “Taming the Tiger Within” is from a Buddhist monk Tich Naht Hanh.

  • @fwefhwe4232

    @fwefhwe4232

    5 жыл бұрын

    you got it the other way round Trisha, Buddhism isn't a single book, single messiah desert cult like islam / christianity. you CANNOT be a apostate - there is no segregation of believers and non believers. this also means that use of mind is encouraged, not just blindly following a book written thousands of years ago. look at Afghanistan, it had the tallest buddha statue which was destroyed by taliban in 2001. Hell, Afghanistan itself was Buddhist till 8th century till islamic invaders came. some men don't like to watch their children beheaded and wifes taken as sex slaves. peace and forgiveness sounds nice in a perfect world, a balance occurs in all things nature. too much peace, and your race, culture and civilization gets wiped out. Myanmar faced similar terrorism in the rakhine state where bangladeshi muslims are majority. their women were raped and Hindus / Buddhist / Christian men killed. one day, they had enough. and retailated. that's all it is.

Once you start questioning them, arguing their beliefs and orders, start creating your own personality and ideas, they start accusing you of being a bad child and force you to behave.

It pits us against our family and community simply for choosing our own path. Somali non-religious people do exist and won't go away despite the increasing familial and communal pressure to have them erased or at the least oppressed. We are here to stay, it's our universal right to disbelieve, not something up for negotiation.

This has to change , we must normalise and acknowledge the existence of non Muslim Somali women and men.

    I dont have the words to express how powerfully, yet eloquently and with sensitivity you describe the abuse you have endured in your life. I can totally relate to what you're describing. You are a beautiful soul Jamal. You have a soothing voice, real aspiration to many of us who need people like you giving hope to many who need support and courage to leave. I left and I never look back. I broke that circle of abuse. It is true there is no unconditional love from the ones that bore us. We can try as had as we want to try and gain acceptance but they will always try to impose. Its a heart breaking reality. Unfortunately for many face death threats, violence and disowned. Jamal you are one the best I have seen in trying educate and raise awareness in those choosing to leave a religion in ref to the unique support required. You clearly illustrated the lack of knowledge by your counsellor. You highlight the importance for awareness and training required to support many like us. Professionals working in the front line like teachers, GP, nurses, social workers, etc need training in how to support victims of this abuse. The same way that we highlight awareness on domestic abuse, FGM, child abuse, we need to do the same for abuse faced due to people forcing religion beliefs and values. Im not saying that any religion is bad. What I'm saying is we have no right to be abusive in the widest sense trying manipulate people. Jamal you are a wonderful human being and example to all of us. Thank you.

    I’ve left Islam last year, nearing the end of Ramadan to be honest (how ironic!!) and every day is a struggle. I’m a minor, I still go to Quran class and i celebrate Eid in silence. I pretend to participate in Ramadan and I eat out without anyone and I steal food to eat because I dont want to fast. The community is very judgmental, I’m scared to fully express myself whether that be through my clothes or my passions. I have this heavy guilt in my heart, for choosing myself over the validation of others. I now repress myself and my feelings for the safety of myself. But when I grow up, I’ll truly be able to be myself. But for now, I’ll stay quiet and put on a different version of myself for the sake of my safety. For those in a similar situation to me, I want you to know that you aren’t alone. There are many of us out there. Be thankful for living in the West where it’s possible for us to start a new life. Back home isn’t easy. I’m somali and I went back for 8 months. The sound of the athan and constant Quran recitations and the dressing modestly had taken a toll on me. I begged my parents to let me go back, under the guise of “I miss my family back in the West”. But I knew, I jsut wanted to live a life where I could be myself. Keep your head up, after hardships come ease 😊

    Great Job Jamal. I left the religion around the same age. My father was Open-Minded and didn't care, but everyone else on my dad side and mom side (mom included) were devote Muslims (mother and her side were radical ones). Hope all goes well later with your life and that experience doesn't happen again. This is for those Muslims who come here to hate on people like him and me. Get the hell away. You choose to believe in terrible things and don't justify it.

    Yeah. Wonder what would of happened if I didn't. Even though I was born in the US, having both can still turn you radical. My father and mother had friends who we went to their house every week (7 different families and all Muslims). We all grew up together (the kids, though some of us were like 8 years older). One family had RADICAL Muslim parents compared to the others; it was crazy. They beat the shit out of their son to make him one. Because of it, he is a nice guy, but if you question Islam, he'll hate (though unlike other radicals, will let that anger go away.) Glad I got a father like mine. I'll do what he did with me. Teach my kids and/or others about the religion. Should they wish to believe in it, fine. If not, fine as well. However, treat each-other fairly and nice.

    Can't fear something that doesn't exist and if it did, I'd try to kill it instead, because of all the terrible things it says to do (like in other religions). Quran shouldn't be read because it has the BS of if you memorize it, you get into heaven no matter what terrible things you do in your life. Finally Islam, like all other religions are not a truth. They are a lie to make people happy. If you are a follower of Islam, leave it.

    This is so sad and terrifying. I’m glad you were able to make it out of those situations alive. I hope this organization continues to help others do the same. Indoctrination of children into religion and punishment for their failure to stay in line is a painfully overlooked form of domestic abuse. I can’t believe what the counselor suggested to you. People have so many blind spots when it comes to the trauma and abuse of religion.

No harm ever came his way!! With arrival of Wahhabism, late 80s and 90s all hell broke loose. I think everyone should choose their way. I also would advise this brother and others like him to leave some doubt in their mind they could be wrong, Given mind kind’s limited knowledge.
