Jake "The Snake" Roberts makes his AEW debut and has harsh words for Cody

Ойын-сауық

Cody is complaining about his loss to MJF and challenges MJF to come out and admit he won fair and square - instead Roberts shows up to give Cody a piece of his mind. Tired of seeing Cody complain, Roberts is there to tell him the 'dark side' is coming and it's coming for Cody's share of the AEW pie. Cody better watch out.

@mighty wibble Hi! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my old comment. Considering Jake’s demons and being out of the business for so long - I always thought him smelling the ropes was akin to that of someone eating a meal they haven’t had since their childhood and being transported back in time. Maybe he does just like the smell of the ropes, but hey - that’s the magic of wrestling - you get to tell a story that can be interpreted in different ways. 😁 As a great man once said; have a nice day!

He was so evil as a heel that he forced the Undertaker to have his 1st face turn by stopping that chair attack Jake was preparing to do on Savage & Elizabeth after their February 92 The Main Event match. Without a doubt the best heel of all time. Despite knowing wrestling was fake as a 13 year old then, I literally thought he or Randy would severely injure or kill each other like Bobby Heenan said. The things Jake did in that feud from the cobra in the wedding gift box that started it, to the cobra attack, to attacking Sid and getting ready to cobra him too when Jake showed up as El Diablo, to slapping Elizabeth after DDT'ing Savage 3 times at This Tuesday in Texas to that averted chair attack---it was just surreal. I was so disappointed when Jake was let go after WM8. I was hoping to see Jake & the Ultimate Warrior resume their impending feud that never happened after Warrior was let go post Summer Slam 91 when he returned at WM8 but by then Jake was let go.

Many years ago my daughter and I were at a show where Jake "The Snake" Roberts was a special guest. Half way into the show when we had intermission I had to run to my vehicle to get something I forgot. I was to be gone for less than 5 minutes but I left my 5 year old daughter in the care of my managers wife. When i walked back into N the arena i started looking for my daughter. After about 3 minutes of looking for her i found her. She was standing next to Jake and he was helping her hold his Albino Python. Needless to say this dad had a run away fit. Jake had to assure me nothing was gonna happen to her as long as he was there with her. He poked fun at me for the rest of the show for loosing my mind with my daughter holding that snake. On a personal level, hes a great person. My daughter, now in her 30s has never forgotten that night and we talk about it with great memories. Thanks for the memories Jake!!

The thing is, wwe is appealing to the general public to get more viewership and it doesn't necessarily mean everyone watching at home or live have been watching long enough. AEW tends to attract the old but die-hard wrestling fans so they definitely know who one of the greatest promo cutters is that's walking in front of them.

A lesson Foley learned and used perfectly when he became Mankind [and fully credited Jake for it in his books].

Not in the same ring shape! But perhaps you're deaf and didn't hear that pop for Jake?! The point is,the people love the snake! Only morons wanted Goldberg to win that belt! Alexandre Allard It’s not about Ring Shape. Companies should use old retired legends to put Full Time Talent like The Fiend, Seth, Roman, Styles etc over rather than beating them, killing their hype for no particular reason. Imagine building up a character after months and months of hard work then some one said, “ok we’ll have this guy randomly come in and take all of your hard work away”. That’s what WWE has done and has been doing. The Fiend is their most popular character and it was all stripped away. Imagine the headline of wrestlemania: The Fiend, the undefeated monster that defeated Goldberg vs John Cena, 16-Time World Champ attempting to break Ric Flair’s record on the grandest stage of them all.

I respect what he has had to overcome but Jake has the same problem all great Promo guys who are retired have, he cannot wrestle anymore. It’s really hard nowadays for a manager to put heat on an up-and-coming wrestler. Mostly because after the attitude era they got rid of managers so people are not used to it. The only current manager right now is Paul Heyman and he draws because he’s been doing it his whole life. Jake was a great promo guy but he was the man who is taking the action. He won’t be able to transfer his mistake to someone else. Especially because when you get a wrestler that needs a manager to talk for him it’s because they can’t talk and they cannot cut good promos so if you get someone like Jake the snake who cuts great promos it won’t feel true to him. Also if they get a guy who can already talk then he doesn’t need a manager. That’s why wrestlers turned manager is something that is really seen any more. TNA tried it and it didn’t work WWE has tried it for a while I didn’t work so there’s not a history of it succeeding consistently.

  • @fritzcolburn

@@edhern619 The history of managers has been erased by WWE. It's why people are sick if WWE. When you erase history you erase the "sport". Managers, when used properly (which WWE hasn't done in 30 years) put over up and comers and amplify heat for those already over. Jake knows how to draw heat. He'll be able to bring back the art of a manager. Then people will see how it's supposed to be done and younger viewers will appreciate it.

Jake Roberts explained his promo skill came from lots of different sources. A lot of influence came from serial killers like Ted Bundy and Ed Gaines who could speak low and soft but still get a point across. If you go and watch some of the early promo's he done, than go and watch some like early Kevin Sullivan you will see a distinct pattern throughout.
