I always found it perfectly rounded out the series because it added foreshadowing to Samos' opening speech from the precursor legacy. "...Who were the precursors? Why did they create the vast monoliths that litter our planet? How did they harness eco, the life energy of the world? What was their purpose, and why did they vanish? I have asked the plants, but they do not remember. I have asked the rocks, but the rocks do not recall. Even the rocks do not recall. Every bone in my body tells me that the answers rest on the shoulders of a young boy..." Then Daxter gets turned into a precursor and spends almost all of his time from then on resting on Jaks shoulders.

Yeah and look at how Samos treated Daxter throughout the ENTIRE trilogy, he was a total JERK towards Daxter and even made him clean his house almost every day!

You know Jak is a great game when its 2019 and videos about the series is still being uploaded on KZread. I will hang on to my faith that we will see Jak 4 till the day I die

@@GhostFan-ev4di Why doesn't it count as a 4th installment? The only difference between it and 3 before it is you're racing more than platforming. That's all. Same graphics, same locations, fan service, fixing jak 3's mistake with jak, ashlin and keira, gun gameplay etc.

When my Father and I first saw this plot twist, we busted a gut laughing so hard. The set up was great, and it wasn't out of place at all for me. This series always found a way to balance serious and funny tones and keeps staying a childhood favorite of mine.

One of the Precursors questioning about their states is enough to hint that they are not as great as they claim themselves to be, also this Plot Twist made a plot hole as to How Daxter turned into an ottsel with a dark eco when it was explained in the same game that it can either kill or turn into dark makers.

FUN FACT: The ENTIRE series completely falls apart if Daxter had never been turned into an Ottsel/Precursor! Simply put if Daxter hadn't been turned into an Ottsel/Precursor Jak would've had no reason at all to leave Sandover Village and eventually uncover Gol's plot to unleash the Dark Eco silos, instead they would've learned of the plot too late after Samos's kidnapping, but by then it'd take too long to make the trek all the way north to their citadel to stop them and they'd succeed with their plan to open the Dark Eco silos, never stopping Gol and Maiya's modified Precursor Robot would mean that the Precursor door hiding the Rift Rider and Time Rift Gate wouldn't've been found and thus no jumping forward in time to Haven City, and no Ottsel/Precursor Daxter would also mean no Daxter side game for the PSP. So, yeah the whole series literally hinges on Daxter falling into the Dark Eco pool in the first game.

I'm wondering if the precursors were a metaphor for the fan perception of video game developers; I'm sure we've all had those moments where we've played a game and expected the developers to be some kind of omnipotent gods, only to find out they're pretty much just like the rest of us (or in Jak 3's case, just like the rest of us, but small and covered in orange fur). Ultimately they were a prime example of why you should never meet your idols.

@@VtnVivi Not quite; the reason I say the precursors are a metaphor for game developers is because the precursors created an entire universe yet they themselves are almost the opposite of what we think of when someone says "omnipotent beings" or "gods". And while the plumber is a god like figure, you can't really compare him to a video game developer so much because nobody in the game has ever openly said that the plumber created the universe, just that he's travelled a lot and mysteriously keeps running into Ratchet & Clank.

@jackthegamer yeah I can sort of see Ratchet being a plumber of sorts with that giant wrench and maybe the additional gadget or two.

It's a great plot twist, I never had seen a funny turn of events in a revelation before or after. The reactions where priceless, also Daxter "I'm a god...". And it at least set-up and hinted during the third game, it didn't come complete out of nowhere. The spargus monks casually talks about how Daxter resemble their creators.

The plot twist to me fit right in place with the series. The timing of the comedy after vigors reveal on the surface endeared me with comic relief XD

YES!!! Veger totally deserved that too! Omg if Veger hadn't shown up though, Jak would've turned into an ottsel!😬 But Tess turning into an ottsel simply saying she wished she had a pair of pants just like Daxter's, though funny, is pretty extreme! 🤣🤣

Mabye there is a possibility that the ottsels were lying about being the precursors. They may have just stumbled upon the precursor technology and pretended to be them just so they can be looked upon as godlike.

The precursors look like dexter, Dexter changed form because he feel into dark eco, so would it be fair to say the precursors could actually be the dark makings who could be twisted by dark eco but want to look like the good guys.... ultimate plot twist

I remember first time i played Jak 3 my reaction to Precourors being Ottsels was “I’m sorry i need to drop something” Regardless Jak 3 is still my favorite in entire trilogy because of twist and gameplay

My reaction to finding out that the precursors bring like Daxter was the same reaction to King Candy as Turbo from Wreck-it-ralph in the movie. My jaw hit the floor and like Jak i also said oh my god and also screaming out what the hell

I personally don't have much against the plot twist since it kind of helps to explain why Daxter turned into an ottsel plus it added a bit of humour there. Also nice Kingdom Hearts reference! 🤣

Ottsels are so cute and adorable! My favorite ottsels are Ottsel Dummy, Ottsel Veger, Ottsel Surfer, Ottsel Leader, and of course... little Daxter! They're so cute!

I love that Daxter was upset that they had pants. And instead of getting turned back just wished for pants instead

Nice video theory. But this is how I see the hologram going through the portal means. The futures precursor when they send the hologram through the portal, I believe they where just sending information about the future to their past selfs. And that’s how they now about the future I believe.

No need to complicate. Little fuzzy rats can time travel (presumably every time machine is originally theirs), that's it. Holograms are illusions, fakes. Those are not real. You'd want to fluff up the myth........... a bit. Also, Classic Naughty Dogs had the knack of rewriting plots whenever they wrote themselves into a corner. Sometimes at the last minute. That rare writing skill saved Jak 2 and Jak 3's stories from becoming completely incomprehensible. If only High Impact Games did not get the chance the write the final draft............ if only Naughty Dog completed the script.............. sadly, what's in the past is done.

'The dark light has twisted one of you' - That's clearly Daxter. His form was created by a dip in Dark Eco...

I never stopped to consider what possible ramifications the twist had on the rest of the plot of the series. I took it as a fun twist, particularly considering Veger wanted to be a Precursor. Back then (and probably still) I was far more interested in the impact of time-travel on the story, since I don't think it's until late in the 3rd game that we are introduced to the idea of being able to travel _back_ in time. The Precursors always were a great lost civilization. "Where did they go? Why did they build this crap?" and I'm not certain the player was ever meant to assume that anything we saw actually was a Precursor, simply some remnant of their advanced technology. To that end, the Oracles of the first game didn't need to be directly controlled or have prerecorded messages, they simply needed to be some manner of "Artificial Intelligence" and indeed, even without the context of the later games, this was the most obvious answer as to what they were. The bigger, perhaps biggest question about the Precursors isn't anything to do with the story in and of itself. It's about their whereabouts and numbers. Certainly there are more than three of them left? How have they lived this entire time? Certainly if they were as "all seeing" as some fans think, they wouldn't get revealed in the 3rd game, unless they wanted to be found. It might be fun to think about for a bit, but the world of _Jak & Daxter_ is probably best left to simple fun without trying to figure out the plotholes left by retcons like Precursors being Ottsels.

''Artificial intelligence'' I thought of that! If it is that, to me it feels Kingdom Hearts ish, how the precursors felt Jak's heart, as him being the hero. As for other precursors, it's possible there's more, the crowd we hear inside their ''space'' ship could hint at it.

They don't need the hologram to travel through time because the precursors were already present within the planetary defence system well before the first game starts.

@@VtnVivi it didn't. The hologram projection seems to start at the stone and end at the gate. I mean a hologram doesn't need to travel the precursors already have a direct line through the hologram why would the hologram need to go through the gate.

The voice for the hologram in jak 3, is different than that in jak 2 and the Oracles in jak 1 and 2. Maybe thats a subtle hint that the precursors were only directly using the hologram in jak 3, and in jak 1 and 2 they were probably AIs or something

This was a trip for kid me playing to that part. It felt like it made sense but it was a hilarious idea. Like a prank on the player and the whole universe. I would adore doing something similar sometime in my own work

I loved it because it was original. The story keeps me going back for its unique twist. The people behind Jak and daxter felt like they were just like us wanting to have fun and not letting anything come before that when making it. Personally I am not big on replaying games but this one I can play forever it seems and I would love to see a sequel from naughty dog. I love the games they make but nothing ever has touched my heart like Jak and daxter. Whatever they make I am down for it because it’s what they found fun and interesting. I just hope they stay true to making a great game that follows the story and follows what it always meant from the beginning... fun....you, Jak, Dax, and the many adventures where you are rewarded with new abilities and amour and guns. Truly my favorite game and a sequel would make me so happy. Would love to hear what you guys think as well.

I think that the precursors evolved into energy beings, and the otsils are just one species that learned how to use their tech, and tried to take their place

I remember playing the game getting to this part and my first reaction being “huh?” and my second reaction being “ho so that way Sein was suddenly nice to Daxter”

Now this is how you do a twist that's both comedic yet still makes sense.

Great video, V! My reaction when seeing this scene was something along the lines of: "Oh fuck, Jak is not going to hear the end of this..." Furthermore, I think the idea that the precursors being ottsels was brilliant. The mighty beings who played God in the Jak and Daxter universe being furry little weasels was original and humorous. As for their power, I think there are a lot of unanswered questions. We can't assume that their power is mainly due to their technological expertise because we know that they created the J and D universe, but did they use the technology they had in Jak 3 to do it? I think not; otherwise, who would have created it? My theory is that they had god-like powers and developed the technology they had in Jak 3 as they progressed with the development of the universe. As for not being the most powerful beings in the universe, isn't obvious that if the precursors aren't then the dark-makers are? I mean, precursors are pretty much Gods in the J and D universe. Dark-makers are corrupted precursors, and, judging by the fact that the precursors needed the help of Jak and Daxter to "turn the tide" (implies that they were getting their sweet rabbit asses kicked) in the war against the dark-makers, we could ascertain that the dark makers are, therefore, more powerful than the precursors, at the very least. Who else could me more powerful than the precursors? The hora-quan (metal heads)? Nah. KG deathbots? Nah. So, to me, it seemed pretty obvious that they were referring to the dark makers as the beings that are more powerful than themselves. Just my thoughts in the matter. Thanks!

That blue precursor hologram is probably just a holographic communicator think of it as what they did with the wizard of Oz, the wizard was respected and feared , but turns out to be a normal person with his own way of bestowing gifts. The precursors are somewhat similar.

And Canadian Guy Eh (which I think he was mixed on, hilarious reaction though) just finished Jak 3 last night. Cleverly timed. Now I personally liked that scene as it was hilarious, I guess because of the other characters reactions. And also because it was unexpected. Oh Time Travel why must we venture into such a complicated territory? I actually planned on doing a video about the subject (across 4-game series), but it was so confusing I don't even know if I'll get it done (or even start it).

OMG!!!! I never finished Jak 3!!! I din't know about this!!! It's such an awesome turn of events!!!! It's a great touch to the grim world of Jak & Daxter. I'm glad Daxter remained an otter.

I realize that I'm a *bit* late, but I thought that I would give my two cents worth. The twist was dumb and way out of left field. It's just... so stupid. I get that it was supposed to be surprising, and I understand the reasoning behind it, /to a *minuscule* degree/, but I can't help but feel that a shocking twist for shock value's sake is just one of the dumbest things that you can do. It might be an attempt to mimic MIB's /tiny alien in a big mech/ (or maybe it's visa versa, I don't know) reveal seen, and it just doesn't work. It made me wonder why in the ever-loving f*ck they decided on that element in particular. When I first saw it as a kid, I remember dropping my controller and glaring at the screen, thinking "Why are these fuzzy orange rats pretending to be Precursors?" because, even as a kid, I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of the little sh!ts being near-all-powerful beings. Perhaps that has something to do with me just not liking Daxter in the first place as a kid, but that was how I felt. But about the whole precursor-totem thing, I feel like a basic AI working in conjunction with advanced facial recognition software could have been what was in play, IDK.

I said the exact same thing that Jak said, at the exact same time "Oh My God". Fricking hilarious.

I would personally speculate something along the lines of the precursors originally being cybernetic and looking like the darkmaker soldiers, but normal of course. The reason that they are ottsels in jak 3 would be that these precursors got out easy like daxter after being directly exposed to dark eco. Also the subrail car thing seems too big for ottsels. Also there has to be a reason they use that mosquito creature to represent them, and i doubt that all the darkmakers are ottsels on the inside

i honestly think its hilarious that they did that. i’ve come up with two (not very serious) theories about the Precursors. whether they are actually powerful or just their technology is powerful, im not really sure; but maybe they arent really ottsels, but they have the physical appearance of them due to being tainted (or blessed) by dark eco, like Daxter. another fun theory i have, not relating to the last one at all (as in theyve always been ottsels), is that Daxter turning into an ottsel was a prank from the Precursors. i like to think that, at some point, they put their DNA into dark eco to turn them into their kind as some kind of a joke. again, these theories arent very serious, and i dont really believe them, i just think they’re fun to think about, you know.

I think precursors are kinda like the old ones from warhammer 40k, they create life and worlds, their technology is powerfull and they can cause mass destruction with it but they still have some non human moral reason to create warriors to fight for them, I guess they would see it as one smuck = one exceptional hero = 1 life potentially lost while nukes being the 2nd option which seems to be very nonprecursor thing to do

I like the twist. It felt like a very Jak and Daxter thing to do, it fit the humor of the series. And yeah it’s a little silly but I think it’s a very unique way of making the God species of the Jak universe stand out amongst stuff like the Forerunners in Halo or the Protheans in Mass Effect.

That part where they were revealed I always laughed so hard 🤣

I always love this part kind of makes you think Daxter had precursor blood in him that's why he was able to turn into orange rat when he fell into dark eco

Daxter did say at the end of game 1 "Big things come in small packages."

I still... do not like this twist. The first game has this absolutely fantastic world to it, full of precursor tech and mysteries. Eco and Precursors and the robots themselves were these really awesome entities in the game and then it all becomes a gag. I find it utterly ridiculous that the whole Daxter becoming an Ocelot at the start was just him becoming a god through dark eco.

I always assumed the hologram going through the precursor portal was misdirection by the ottsels. It seemed to me that they never really intended to present themselves to the world. Veagers presence at the core was an unaccounted for variable that messed up their plans, forcing their reveal.

Not gonna lie, maybe it was the fact that I hated jak 3s plot but this twist was like a nail in a coffin in terms of story. My main story issues bing the romantic partner switch to Ashelin and the worst choice of a final villain being Errol....... had those two story plots changed maybe I wouldn’t of minded the precursor twist so much. But idk all that combined just fell flat for me and seemed a bit rushed and lazy. On a positive note loving your videos! Nice to see someone going back and reassessing a wonderful set of games! Keep it going!

I agree and disagree with your comment. I just finished Jak 3 again and I think the intention of this story was meant to be far greater than a love interest or a villain this time around, which is why I believe Naughty Dog let those elements kinda fade into the background. It would have been nice if Keira had a larger role and another greater villain than Errol fit in the plot as the final boss, but I really appreciated how this game's focus was on Jak and Daxter again and brought some closure to the Precursor's arc.

Even after completing Jack 3 and Jack X every time I go back to the Lost precursor Legacy I always interpreted the line that one of them had their paid Twisted by dark Eco being Daxter since he fell into it and it was transformed into a nozzle they never said whether it was twisted For Better or Worse but that's just me

the ''hologram'' from jak 2 wasnt a hologram, it was a fresh precursor, which went back to the past to set up jak 1, its not a time-transcending microphone

I just got back into the series and oh man here we go again, but this time round we have people who somehow have the same answers my 10year old self thought back in the day 18years ago. Now that's time travel haha 😂

I think they were turned into ottsels by the dark makers as a joke when overthrowing them

I remember when I was a kid I rolled my eyes and knew there wouldn’t be a jak 4 after this “twist “ I’ve kept that same energy and look 🤷‍♂️

Okay the reveal was something that made me laugh, and was partially spoiled for me, but I'd forgotten most of it. And yeah it makes sense and is a funny twist but then it made me thinking; the whole point of Metal Kor in Jak 2 was to eat the last precursors because it was an "egg" but it's just a hologram.... Is that why the precursors were so adamant about protecting it? Because they didn't want their image tarnished when people realised it was faked? It's the only part of this that really bugs me.

That plot twist was pretty cool

Also in the game too, did you think it was really annoying whenever you're playing through the levels and either sora, Donald or goofy say things like "I hope we find some ingredients around here." Or "this looks like a good spot to find some ingredients." And the same with the lucky emblems too. "Hey I think that's a lucky emblem." Like at first when you're properly looking for them it's fine but even after you fully beat the cooking mini-game and find all 90 lucky emblems they still keep saying it. It honestly becomes the most annoying thing in the game almost. Do you get what I mean at all?

Next thing you know Naughty Dog development team who care about Jak and Daxter would shoot themselves from building a convoluted but lovable timeline and say “You idiots, I told you we needed a plan b!”

Honestly, I expected them to go with the greater beings, and was hoping to see that happen. But ultimately I felt left disappointed. But I also understand why they did it.

I really like your Videos. I prefer the theory, that the precursors were the whole time deeply in the earth under sandover village and later under Haven city, so that they didn`need to travel through time. I would underpine this, with the fact that there were precursor-temples all over the world of The Precursor Legacy.

I’m also pretty confused when I played jak and daxter 2 and I saw a billboard of ratchet and clank in the second game. And Rachet and clank 2 ( going commando) in ratchet and clanks room in motropiles ( I think that’s how it’s spelled) on their tv it’s jak and daxter 2. Does that mean they are gonna make a game where ratchet and clank, and jak and daxter are gonna meet or what? 🤷‍♂️??

Those were just easter eggs, a way of showing how Insomniac and Naughty Dog were close :)

I thought the Oracle meant that the dark light had twisted the fate of Daxter, considering he fell into Dark Eco and turned into an ottsel.

Hi VIVI! I don't want to trigger anybody, but what do you think Jak 4's plot would be about? Would it continue with Jak and his friends going after Krew's daughter from Jak X or would it be about ending the dark war against the Dark Makers?

Ending the Dark Makers I believe would be the meat of the game, we could even see Krew's daughter again why not!

I think the ottsels were amazing because it shows them to be both not intimidating yet commendable in their true technological abilities. I also wonder if Daxter was blessed and Jak survived because of some sort of resistance to dark eco. I mean for Jak it was basically confirmed he resisted due to his gift, but perhaps Daxter did have some hidden potential in eco channeling or was also a chosen one. Sure he mostly followed Jak and was a reluctant hero even in the Daxter game and a few moments from the main games and Jak X, but perhaps his heart was pure enough to be blessed despite his general attitude. I feel his ego is a front both from his cowardice, and probably also to hide his general good intentions. Though the fact it took over a year for Daxter to remember to save Jak might be a wrench in that theory.

Jak from TPL still had the pure heart from his childhood. Haven City is what changed that aspect of him. Thanks for watching!

Funnily enough; I actually had a feeling that the Precursors would be Ottsels from practically the start. I mean; Daxter fell into a cat of dark eco, and of all things; he became an ottsel, and seemed to have no signs of corruption from the dark eco? I actually had to wonder even back then if the Precursors were in fact Ottsels; since I doubted that it was just a coincidence.

You know in the last Jack game that came out throw the psp1 the frontier one whatever it's called they show that Dexter has the same ability to channel Eco as Jeff and when channeling dark Eco becomes larger than Jack kind of like a holt form but he's also seen channeling blue Eco ready go yellow Eco and I've always used green Eco for health

To repeat what I said in the dark maker video comments.... think about it. It doesn't make sense. Why would precursor technology, including control consoles, elevators, the control rooms for their giant robots, buttons, precursor armor all be made for human sized beings? And then there's all the hundreds of statues they built... for what? To make worshipers? All that monumental effort to put statues and robots in places most humans/elves whatever they are, would never see, just to wow and intimidate primitive people that probably didn't even exist when they were building them? What kind of race designs their entire architecture around getting worshipers? What did they intend on doing once acquiring said worshippers? Why would they leave zero images of their true selves? Because they're so ashamed of the way they look despite being one of the most advanced and powerful races in the universe? Why would they even think that other races would think they're silly and unintimidating and believe it so strongly that they would build all their cities, structures, architecture, machines and holograms to trick primitives into thinking they weren't what they were? Why would the opinions of people who at best probably didnt even invent the wheel by the time the precursors showed up matter so much to them? And for that matter, why not just make big imposing statues of their true form then? It makes no sense to want to hide who they are from cavemen. Then there's the dark precursors who we're told are corrupted versions of the precursors who for some strange reason look nothing like the ottsels but instead look similar to the statues and robots the precursors made. It's almost like that's what initially was the idea for what precursors looked like. (Reminder that we humans generally make our robots look similar to us and not some totally different bipedal creature.) Then there's the precursor egg which doesn't make sense for their to be a hologram projector in buried deep in a temple. Unless you're going to make a bunch of assumptions like the hologram is actually some sort of remotely controlled drone transmitting images and can also time travel and continue transmitting through time. And it also doesn't make sense that it looks like jaks race not an ottsel and not one of the bug head looking statues It's really almost like the joke plot twist was way too last minute for it to be convincing. And since it was so last minute, it just really tears apart the believability of the whole jak and daxter universe.

If i was daxter i would beg the precursors to make me human again

I always thought of a game concept in the timeline of when the metalheads were introduced to the past, and jak had to go back to establish haven city. Or had to make sure the decendant of Mar then would make it out alive and be able to establish Haven city. Jak and Daxter would have to fight off the metal heads while watching the surrounding nature wither away, they have to mine the precursor Basin and under water city to establish the Haven wall, the sages add in their help before the metal heads consume it all. They start to work with the lurkers in collecting precusor metal and eco (but then betrayed as known in the future they are in the slave trade). I loved the designs of Jak1 but I'd be really interested to see how the metal heads fucked up the past that made the future to be in danger.

I was very disappointed by this twist because they gave 0 explanations about the oracles, how eco works and how they control it etc etc, i felt they were too lazy to make a proper plot and just kinda pissed on all of their work. I lost a lot of respect for this reason even though i do love the rest of this series

Hey VIVI I really gotta ask you, at the beginning of kingdom hearts III before you get to the Olympus world, did you like how it said "kingdom hearts 2.9" literally after sora said "Olympus coliseum here we come!" I honestly felt really teased and bullied to be honest because the second the proper "kingdom hearts III" logo appears, after completely the Olympus world, after playing as Riku for 2 minutes and an hour long cutscenes worth of movies. I'm like "so wait a minute. This is KH3? I wasn't playing KH3 before." Do you get what I mean at all? I know it's not a big deal but it's kind of stupid and annoying when you think about it?

if the Precursors' "talking via a hologram" capability works even through/beyond time, it explains while a sentence in South Haven Forest in Jak 3 was this: "Approach the Astro-viewer, *time warrior."* 🙂 If this capability worked through time, they knew from the beginning that Jak was a time traveler. 🙂

But does this mean there's still a baby-otsel within the Precursor Stone? Kor said it was the Last Precursor Egg. As the Metal Heads and Precursors were at war before the Precursors came to this planet, it would be wierd for Kor to say "I will feed on the last Precursor Life Force" ifit wasn't actually an egg. Though Kor might have thought the Precursors are all gone, as they did in fact go into hiding and not shown any real life signs. Kor still shouldn't be that easily tricked by rumours of Precursors laying eggs, and this being the last one. Unless perhaps Precursors do in fact lay eggs that look a lot like the Precursor Stone, but that particular stone was just a well made fake.

I remember as a kid thinking this part was hilarious, especially since it regarded Daxter. But then, growing up and continuing to play these games and thinking on the stories, I started to become more troubled by it. Especially in regards to the Precursor Stone and what Kor knew of it. Even Vin and Samos felt it had a power not to be messed with, and if Kor was a significant ancient enemy of the Precursors, I'm not sure if could doubt his knowledge on the stone if he's feasted on the "Precursor Life force" before (unless if it was a clever deception by Mar or the Precursors). Even if what you said is true, the joke still doesn't feel as well thought out. By itself, the concept was funny, but in regards to how the story developed, I still find it somewhat problematic. At the end of the day, I don't really know what was going through the developers' heads, but I can still appreciate what they've given us.

I never hated the reveal. It was fine, and it didn't hurt anything. The added line about their appearance, probably causing people to not take them seriously, was enough self awareness thrown about the situation ahead of release. It also never discredited their impact on the series and the world. They could have easily made them into goof/gag characters from that point forward, but didn't.

I admit. I laugh a little at people who get so Uber outraged at the twist, even if they get the “don’t judge a book by its cover”/ & some bit of that messing with expectations joke. Not something to mislead and disappoint, but to jab ya for just making assumptions like you know everything. Plus it is nice to have something different then the hyper perfect, stoic angle like being for once, even though when done right can be an incredible spectacle in a scene

I know it has been two years since this video came out, but when i was watching this video this idea popped in my head and i had to say this beacouse in my opinion this is mindblowing. So i really hope you can read my comment and maybe share this with the community. I know this is some crazy stuff, but i think it is an interesting theory... So... what if... that "precursor" is Mar? I try to explain... We discover that the precursors are ottsel, so we have five options: 1) this os a superior form of precursor. 2) this is a baby precursor. 3) this is just a plot hole. 4) this is a "clip" recorded in the stone. 5) this is something we still have to discover. It could be the first option, beacouse when we discover what precursors really are the boss says: "we are the most powerfull creature in the universe". And then the stupid guy on the left says: "are we?" With the first one hitting him trying to hide something. I don't have much to say about the second, it is just a thought that came through my mind. The third one probably is the true one, but i think they'll try to solve it in the future with the other options. I don't like the fourth one, but it can be... And here's the last one... I think it could be Mar (older jak). Why? Well... We see that it is a light eco living being and jak uses light eco, so it could be a form of light jak or it could be the final step to his journey. Like... not the final one, i like to think that he will sit next to the precursors as a protector of the worlds and he just used this form as a camouflage or this is actually his final form.

"we are the most powerful creature in the universe" I think I always took that line as them NOT being so powerful, hence why the other got shushed. Sure they built Jak's world, but they are still Ottsels in the end.
