There is a connection to be made between these bones and the skeleton on the ice tracks in Jak X...maybe I'll revisit that idea in future episodes 🤔 Have any theories about Misty Island? Comment your own theories below!

If you look at the island from above, it is a crescent shaped, with the Zoomer area forming a large watery crater. It’s likely a caldera, an erupted volcano that flooded with seawater. That also lends credence to your volcanic ash mist theory. Great video! Love this content 👍

The way the precursors seemed to contain dark eco in silos (presumably never meant to be opened) reminds me of the way we store nuclear waste. I wonder if dark eco is actually the byproduct of something they did. It also seems to have mutating characteristics, daxter turned into an animal when he fell in, which if I was really stretching it could be compared to effects of exposure to radioactive substances.

Great theory! It's like it's the essence of the darkness that the universe was before the big bang, so by creating light or life, it gets expelled and the result is dark eco 👀

Surprised how genuinely little reaching there is in these videos, it's all so logical. It astounds me how much genuine detail there is in so much of this, and that Naughty Dog simply... never did much with it in the end.

I'm delighted with the love it's gotten so far, but if I could share it farther with people who love Jak and Daxter as much as we do I'd be even happier 😂 It really is a shame, the universe has potential the likes of which were ridiculously rare during the PS2 generation, and if they weren't rushed then it could have reached a whole new depth and level of awesomeness - hopefully someday a remake/reboot will flesh out the universe to the depth we'd love to experience 😁

The Precursor Legacy had such an uncanny ability to feel so much more spacious and deep (in scale) than it really was. Looking out and seeing a distant landmark that you recognized from an earlier or later region was mind blowing to young me. It really felt like you were part of a larger and open world, and that even if you didn’t get to explore it in game, it was always out there ready to be found. As fun as Jak 2 and 3 were, I really wish we had gotten more games set in the Precursor Legacy era, rather than the future.

You said it! To go from PS1 graphics and scale to those kinds of distant views was mind blowing back then 😁 A continuation of TPL's style would have been a dream come true - hopefully some day OpenGOAL mods will let us have exactly that!

I love your videos man. You manage to make me think of how much bigger the world of Jak definitely is. I never actually thought of Naval battles happening despite the ship, and over the years my eyes never really noticed the bones(probably because when I first played the game I was a young kid). A lore discord would be amazing if you ever are interested in creating one. I know the community isn't the biggest in the world but it would be fun to have some people to talk lore theories with.

That was a beautiful closing line. This video really made me consider a few lore details, too. As far as the mists on Misty Island go, I would more guess it's steam caused by the vaporisation of sea water, or else that the Dark Eco results in some sort of drop in temperature (we incidentally see the largest quantities of it in cold places), which would be my guess. The heat from the Lava Tube near the Citadel, and from the geological activity near Misty Island might diffuse in part through the Dark Eco in the silos, keeping the area somewhat stable (note also that Dark Eco is transported through the Lava Tube without apparently becoming volatile or explosive, and it shows upon the surface on Misty Island and in the Spider Caves mostly, both places where it's fairly cold despite the otherwise hot. I would hesitate to guess the mist to be volcanic gas, given the heavy emphasis on environmental storytelling, and how Jak seems otherwise fine in the area, rather than choking or gasping for breath. And the mother flut-flut - I had always assumed she died in Lurker captivity (or that she was a cut plot thread accidentally left in), but I do like the idea of Maia's dark sorcery transforming her into some sort of monster. That might well have been one of the things cut from the game. It would've been nice to have a few more bosses than the Dark Flower, Klaww, and then Gol and Maia themselves, though I do still like the game as we got it. Dark Roc (maybe called "Rawwk" to pattern with "Klaaw") might've made an interesting zoomer boss, now that I think on it.

I'm a simple man. I see a Derrin Maloney video, I click. Do you believe it's possible that Misty Island became the Strip Mine during the 300 years between Jak 1 and 2? Or... perhaps the Strip Mine is where the southern end of the peninsula disappeared to, broken off from the main land due to tectonic activity, meaning the other two islands next to it are Misty Island and Geyser Rock. Theories like this are why I hope you'll continue on to Jak II after 1. I also hope you'll do more short stories within the Jak universe X3 As for the skeletons, maybe they're Metal Heads! ...probably not. They lack the recess necessary for skull gems. We now begin our journey north, through the treacherous Fire Canyon.
