Great video. The previous owner of my 2000 XKR spent $13,700 US$ to have a factory reconditioned engine installed because of failed timing chain tensioners after ONLY 52,000 miles ! Now I have been driving very reliable car. I bought it with 84K miles and now have it at 122K miles with very little issues. The most expensive issue was replacement of the convertible top lines front to rear.

@@ODRModurol Hi Damian, It was a mixed bag - I found a 2003 4.2 XK8 as a Cat N write-off with very mild frontal damage, and an unsightly but easily repairable dent in the N/S rear wing. It was a very nice 2 owner low milage example (72k miles) prior to the incident so I hoped it would be worth repairing. When I saw it in person, it was almost as good as it looked in the advert, with only a bit of additional corrosion in the sill ends which needed attention before it got any worse. It looked to be in very sound mechanical condition and all the electrics worked fine, even the A/C. I was pleased to see that the black leather interior was more or less unmarked and a recent new headlining was pleasing to see. I settled on a deal at £2750 and will pick it up this week, all being well, just as soon as I can source a replacement front passenger side headlamp. I'm going to chronicle its rebuild on my channel so you'll hopefully soon see what I've got myself into! Happy Jagging for now...

Insurance was ridiculous. Got a quote on an xkr n its less than half the price of the bmws. Couldnt find a decent xkr in my budget so got an xk8.

@ODRModurol Manual box will definitely imrove the engine response. The auto in the xk is a typical 90s box tho, takes an eternity to drop a gear then even longer to realise you want to drop 2 gears. Imo the v8 lacks a bit of power because ford owned Aston Martin at the same time. If the xk8 had 30-40bhp more, then people would have the xk8 instead of the base model db7. By the time the xkr was released (1998) Aston were putting v12's in the db7 n got rid of the supercharged 6cylinder. Best of luck with the manual conversion, I will be watching the channel to see how it's going.

Great video... A couple of things not mentioned is prop shaft can start to fail after 100k and service history should help in ensuring it's been greased when necessary. Also tyres may be old causing hardening of rubber so not less grippy. Replacements are around £250 each. If convertable check for full operation. This will need a hood specialist to rectify problem. Could cost anything from a few hundred to £2500 for new parts and labour. I had a convertable and drove it for 100k without thrashing so am aware of these problems. Front suspension problems with bushes needing replacing will happen around 80k

I have a 15 year old XF and an X351 XJ and my eye is drawn towards an XK. I don't know which one though, the X100 or X150, the X100's are obviously old now and would require more maintenance but the style is classic, the X150 however is an aluminium car and is in a lot of respects the better car (at least according to many reviews I've watched). Still, the decision is a long way off yet but videos like this give a great insight into the X100 and what ownership would probably look like.

Also look for purple fluid marks near the engine mounts. Look for leaks at the octopus hose fitting right side just above Bank-1 cat. LSM often needs contact cleaning to solve. The 5HP24 gearbox in my old 2001 BMW X5 failed at 220Kmi.
