    I own a 2003 X308 Super V8, which is basically a Vanden Plas stretched body with the XJR drivetrain and a bit softer springs. Anyhow, I recently had to replace a burst coolant hose that traverses underneath the supercharger. I know that I should have taken it to a reputable Jaguar garage instead of diving into it my own. In order to replace those two coolant hoses, I had to remove the supercharger without any technical guidance or diagram and no, I did not order the shop manual, which I will do now. I had to remove my throttle body, the intake elbow going to the back of the supercharger inlet and learn the hard way how to get to that one lonesome bolt at the back of the supercharger to pull the supercharger out. I wish you had a fully detailed step-by-step video of the supercharger removal process. Long story short, the two rubber boots that connect the output plenum of the Eaton M112 COLLAPSES for some odd reason and then engine begins to run rough because of the extra UNMETERED air entering the intake after the air flow meter, so the engine does not know that there's extra air being ingested and does not readjust itself to compensate. I double checked the vacuum lines and verified with the vacuum hose diagram decal that's plastered on the front frame over the radiator. I even thought that my bypass valve might be faulty, so I bought a used one from eBay and no change in symptoms. Maybe I forgot something when reassembling the supercharger? Maybe I damaged the rubber boot? I am not sure. Any ideas or suggestions? And any readers, please chime in too! I can use all the help before sending my Super V8 in for something that I know I can fix myself. By the way, my engine is the last rendition of the 4.0 liter V8 Supercharged AJ27. My throttle body is the later version without the cruise control vacuum diaphragm sitting next to the intake mouth. And I do already have the oversized charged air coolant heat exchanger, the oversized crank pulley and the smaller snout pulley but I think I will go with your method of using Powerhouse and give them some of my money! And I do have the metal intake pipe from Arden with the heat baffle and the cone intake filter. I did see your video on the upgraded coolant pump for the charged air coolant system. I will do that too to help with the oversized charged air heat exchanger.

    Have you replaced the boots from the intercooler to the bypass plenum? We noticed that the rubber items in many cases were perished or deteriorated on ours which could compromise the integrity. Also making sure your bypass butterfly operates smoothly is a good idea, ours was gummed up and needed cleaning. We have more videos coming on this project including replacing the lower hoses under the supercharger so stay tuned. Also, nice choice on Super V8, my brother has a real soft spot for those!

    Yo brother so I know you bought a new nose but I am rebuilding mine and just barely got the danm pulley out and I need a replacement because the one I have is kinda warped, if I buy the pulley which I saw is slightly reduced by 16% I think would it even fit in the stock nose cone since or do I need to get it milled also? I love your videos because I recently have gotten a xjr and was a bit intimidated but so far with your tips it's been a breeze! Keep it up!

  • @LowTechGarage

    @LowTechGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    yes you absolutely can! They pulley we opted for (highest boost option) requires some machining on the nose of the supercharger. Powerhouse UK offer a core service where they send you a new snout with all new bearings, machined nose and pulley already installed. You just send them your old one. For us this was the easiest option although it does cost a little more. If you go for the 1.5psi increase pulley it does not require machining and you can leave the snout on. I hope this helps!

    I made the mistake when I did mine of putting a solid coupler in it and now a year later the bearings are screaming like a banshee. I also did the smaller pulley, I don't remember noticing a whole lot of power difference (advertised as a 25 horsepower pulley), but the bearings didn't last too long with that solid coupler. Now I'll be taking it off and rebuilding it again next few weeks....with a new factory spring coupler.

  • @LowTechGarage

    @LowTechGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    That one is a real pain! if you can remove the plastics on the bottom of the windshield you can get more room to remove the intake elbow. Once that is out of the way you should be able to access the rear bolt. Many owners take this time to modify the rear bolt mount so the supercharger slots into this instead of bolts in. This makes for easier serviceability in the future. If you look on my supercharger you can see someone had already cut the rear ear off

    I think the internals on the engine are different. Also on the X308 the transmission is different for the XJR. The regular XJ8 is known to have transmission issues, however the XJR has a much better Mercedes sourced trans. I would hold out for the XJR!

    Couple minor things, why use a nice microfiber cloth which sucks at absorbing anything when you can get cheap shop rags made for the purpose? I yell at guys in my garage for wiping their hands off on micro cloths ... "hey man, that's for POLISHING!! We GOT snot rags for doing that shit!!!" And for all the trying to drain, catch and wipe oil after it's apart, why not just stand the thing up, gear side down, in a pan and walk away for an hour and get it all out the easy way? Don't even have to dirty a rag! Nonetheless, nice job explaining everything and doing it by speaking clearly without mumbling, banging the camera around and all those other things others do that drive us nuts! :-) I have an '04 XKR so I'm curious on finding a follow up on how the car runs and performance gains!!
