That supercharger whine! The throaty exhaust note. Quintessentially English-luxury interior. Those looks. That pin-you-to-your-seat acceleration. Stunning Jaguar. A TRUE credit to it's owner. 👍

What an awesome car. Serious respect for the owner - fine taste and not afraid to have something different from the crowd.

My family has had a 2005 XJL Super V8 since new. Many other cars have come and gone, but the XJ is here to stay

As someone who has owned multiple Rolls Royce’s & S classes my daily driver is a 2006 XJ Vanden Plas. after 25 years of experience in luxury cars the jaguar XJ from 05-09 is still my all-time favorite. I have 3 of them and you can park them right next to a Rolls-Royce or any luxury car and they have more class and appeal than their competitors.

The most beautiful car ever. It's timeless. Pity it's discontinued.

They stopped making Jags that look like Jags in 2010. I have a 2004 XJ8 and love it. Rides like a dream. Would like to find a 2009 because it has Bluetooth, digital phone, etc. but i would not give up my 04 - only 77,000 Miles’s on it.

Have a 2004 XJ8 4.2 stock 294 HP , All Aluminum. Got it with 88,000 miles now up to 120,000 and still flys !!

I have had an 04 xjr for 5 years the whole time I have been amazed by it I have always described it like you did here because others are always wanting to know I said "it does what I want it to do" its the only proper full description of that ride

I know this car and its owner personally, I find myself honoured to do so. The review and the reviewers comments on both car and owner are wholeheartedly deserved and a true reflection of both. The car is brutal, doesn't look it, but brutal none the same. This, as with all XJ Super V8's, allows them to travel unnoticed 95% of the time, only spotted by those who like to see a rare glimpse of days gone by and hanker after the luxury the Big Jaguar would provide them on their daily grind. However, looks can be deceiving, some of those classic Jaguar XJ's might look like another waftmobile for the plutocracy, when in fact they are packing heat. Those of us lucky enough to own one will never tire of the Superchargers whine when woken, nor will we matter one jot at the scenery missed to port and starboard, as the horizon is pulled towards us. All Super V8's have this ability as you sit there cosseted in leather , lambswool and wood, it truly is a wondrous place to be. No car is without fault, but drive one of these and any fault becomes nothing more than a mere hindrance. Nice one Alec and thank you for allowing JayEmm to review and share with the world.

I drove one of these on a Jaguar test day - borrowed and zipped onto the A1 faster than I have ever entered a dual carriageway! Wow. Amazing - nice to be reminded by Jay!

This is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen, I am a sucker for a Jag but this is stunning.

I own a 08 XJ Vanden pla with 65.000 miles. As I have M B as my daily driver but must once or twice a day visit the garage to spend a minute or two just to look at it. Still get many compliments when I take it out.

This is the best XJ Jaguar build I've ever seen. This Cat can purr in gentelmans manner. Some people spend money on obvious carriages and there are people that like travel with style.

Love the sound of that supercharger! Thrilling to drive.

You can't beat that classic XJ shape for a luxury saloon. Best looking car Jag have ever produced apart from the E-Type which is on a different planet altogether. On the downside you'll be lucky to get 20mpg around town and 25mpg on a longer run but driving that who cares when you're cocooned in that luxury. Stunning job.

Love this review! My ‘first Jaaag’ was a 2003 XJ6 3.0 v6SE which I had for 7 years. I then upped the game and got a 2008 facelift XJR in a stunning pearl grey. It was loaded and utterly wonderful. That eventually gave up its place on the drive for the very beautiful XKR I now have. I loved the XJ. So underrated very subtle very pretty and sooo nice to drive. Great cars. Really great cars.

Once upon a time my Dad’s friend purchased a brand new Jaguar XJ12, it was metallic purple & being a 8 year old kid (loved cars) I begged for him to take me out for a spin👍🤪 Anyway as all 70’s Jags did it developed a problem while we were out for a spin 😢 Anyway he turned to me and said “just popping into the car spares shop to grab a part” I’m sitting there as proud as punch because I’m in a JAG! The bloody thing burst into flames (with me in it) I could have opened the door but (Paul came running out shouting “get out of the fu@king car!”) I added to the drama by diving out the window 😂🤪😂 Anyway we put it out fixed it and drove back home 👍 Love JAAAAGGGGGG’S!

Have you ever experienced the latest XJ? The model which was produced between 2010 and 2019 and the first full size luxury sedan conceived under Tata Motors leadership!! It's extremely different from the old ones, but......... Man........... You gotta love it!!!!

Quality

2005-2007 were the best and are only going up in value. If they’re regularly maintained you can get 400k to 500k on their engines. They really are priceless.

I love the XJ, in my eyes it is the last good Jaguar, it looks like a Jaguar should. Oldskool!

They are great cars but my xf 3.0d s is the best jag I have ever owned and I’ve had a fair few

I have a diesel one and I love it, and so does everyone who comes into contact with the car. I drove it to southern Spain and back last year and cruising at 80mph or more with five passengers and luggage averaged 40mpg over the entire trip. At 70 I get over 50mpg. It's also pretty fast. The cheapest and most reliable ones to run are probably the V6 petrol ones. And yes they do have laminated side windows.

Well f#&@! done mate. Very nice review. You were fluid, genuine and generally entertaining. This car is one of my all time favorites and IMO one that is beautiful enough to transcend time. Hats off to Alex for the conversion. I had the opportunity to buy an '09 XJR in Indigo Blue over dove grey with charcoal piping back in 2011(last year for the body style) and I passed it up. Still kicking myself to this day!...in fact, as I write this. Cheers.

My eldest son has just turned eighteen and is looking to buy a car after he passes his driving test. How did you manage to get your fire breathing cars insured at your age?

Having just come back from a drive in my X358 I was particularly pleased to see this review of the beautifully modified X350 Super and the pleasure it gave you. Mine steers and handles way better than it has any right to and gives me a big grin every time she's out to play.

What a beautiful Jag. Many years ago I was privileged to own a 4.0ltr Jaguar Sovereign XJ6. Just a wonderful tourer, but always hankered after the XJR models, with all the whistles and bells! Huge congrats to the owner for a wonderful restoration!

Alex did an awesome job. Every vid you release = an evening on Autotrader and piston heads

@@brendanharvey3583 I would say yes. It was my first vehicle purchase. Can't recommend this car enough. I loved mine and hated letting it go. It's sleek, fast and gets compliments everywhere. The only reason I traded mine is because I live in Wyoming and we have snow on the road about 5-6 months out of the year, so I needed an AWD car. But my XJR lasted me from 100k miles to 160k with only major repair being new water pump, pulleys and belt for about $400. I drove it to Cali and back twice and some road trips, and its last hurrah was a 12 hr trip to Omaha to pick up my Dodge Charger 5.7 AWD. Take care of it with regular maintenance and it will take care of you.

Total respect to Alex (owner) for being 25 and having this. Always wanted one. I had a CL500 and a E500 at 25 and loved them. Can easily afford to run stuff like that if you're not a idiot with money.

I have a stock 2005 XJR owned since 2007 and I simply cannot part with it. Stunning car.

Absolutely stunning and so tasteful. The distant whine of the superchargers spooling up is like nothing else. This is most certainly grace & pace combined in quite sublime balance!

16 years old! I had a 2004 XJ6 3litre Sovereign. An awesome car. It gave its life saving me in a 100mph joint speed head on crash.

I always liked the look of that vintage of Jag. Very classy.

Glorious car, cant beat the supercharger whine. And what a build. I love finding people in my age bracket that support cars like these, and not just thrashing around in stripped out hatchbacks. My step-dad has a 2000 XJR so I'm familiar with the grunt, it really excels on the motorway.

Very nice car. I love this "oldschool" Jaguar styling.

Let's not forget woman love Jaguars. I've had 3. XJ6, my last one was a 2002 XJ6 fot 1,200. My husband painted it the original racing green. I loved it. In 2017 it got demolished by a hurricane. There fantastic cars as long as the person before you took good care of it. Just always check your Bosch relay systems.

I own a 2005 Jaguar XJR, and I love it - and what performance!. The car attracts a lot of attention, the body style being much better than the present XJ, which is quite pleasant but tends to blend in and is nowhere near as beautiful. I now realize, however, that my life is incomplete - that shirt!! Where did you get it?

I have one as a daily driver. Never stops to make me smile.

This car represents what Jaguar was all about, real Jaguars that preserved the Jaguar DNA.

All the best, fellow young Jag driver! I fully agree with your video, Jay, you truly captured the attraction of Jaguars. Although I have to say the scene at 6:09 scared the living daylights out of me (being used to right hand traffic)...

I'm new to this channel and so far quite impressed. James goes on a bit but he has meaningful things to say. Not many YT hosts would review an old XJR but this one is exceptional, and James accurately describes its virtues and shortcomings -- I owned a previous-generation XJR. When comparing the Jag's 450 hp to a hi-po Merc's 625, James delivers an insight I have been racking my brain to articulate: Driving a mega-hp car in the real world is frustrating because using its performance will get you arrested. (This is as true where I live in California as it is in England.) Driving an equally sporting but more realistically (for real world driving) powered car enables you to enjoy the car's optimal range of performance in most situations, making the experience far more satisfying. When friends ask why I prefer my current-generation Mazda MX-5 over a faster sports car like a Porsche Boxster, I can now explain to them that while the Boxster's performance envelope is higher, the car cannot be enjoyed at those velocities on public roads: I would lose my license in short order. But on one of this state's numerous twisty secondaries I can thrash my MX-5, enjoying its light weight and all-alloy suspension at just a few mph over the limit. The result is an exhilarating, anxiety-free drive. And so my preference for the MX-5 over the faster Boxster is that in the real world, the Mazda delivers more smiles per mile. Thanks, James, for enabling me to explain what I already knew.

I have a fascination for Jaguar XJ’s and x-types. My dad passed away last year and he drove an x-type. My mum currently owns the car now and has promised to swap it out for my Corsa, as she wants a smaller car to zip around the city in. Insurance was way too much for me as I’m only 20 years old and very recently acquired my licence. It’s just a shame. The car has issues, there is wear and tear here and there. I just can’t let it go though. My dad loved that car so much. If I do own it, I want to do everything in my power to keep that car in good shape and to have it for many years to come. I know my dad would appreciate that. I can remember one of the last things he said about the car were “I can’t wait to drive this again” as he got out of the hospital. He never did get the chance to fulfil that goal in the end, as he was too sick to move.

Another fantastic 'surprise'. Mix between classic English wood-panelled elegance but an unexpectedly yobbo exhaust and supercharger whine. I'm with you, would very happily own it.

Beautiful car! I bought my first Jaguar XKR at 37 yrs old this was 4 years ago. I have 08 xkr which I have modified and actually did the ECU tuning myself .With basic bolt ons and my tune the car currently sits at around 511hp to the crank and I know there is more in it, so these 4.2 engines have tons of potential in them!

A great mod by Alex, very sympathetic to the whole jag ethos. A great video Jay, really enjoyed it.

Brilliant review and amazing car, I am on both the UK and USA Jaguar forums and have followed the progress of this car. I also have a Radiance Red 2004 Super V8, the supercharger whine is addictive haha. Cannot bear to part with mine even though I have other cars, I will certainly be keeping mine a long time, mind you it has covered 192000 miles now !

Alec is in my local Jaguar club, and he’s taken me out for a spin in this car, and it is awesome! I’ve got a 2004 3-litre V6 version myself, looking very much like the silver one in the video, and I love it, but Alec’s car is something else again. You couldn’t find two cars that look so similar, but are so different to drive, as our two! As for fuel consumption, I’m not sure what Jay was talking about, because mine gets 24mpg round town, and 32mpg on the motorway, which to me (always having had big cars) is actually really good, and Alec says he gets similar to me, from his 4.2L supercharged V8, which is incredible! By the way, one thing that Jay didn’t tell you, is that Alec has drag-raced this car at Santa Pod. :-)

Credit to Alec, I've seen this car in the flesh and believe you mean its stunning and goes very well!

Nice video clip. I have a 97 X300 which has rusted along the frame on the underside.Major rust damage but your clip encourages me to keep it and get it fixed. It IS a lovely drive and you are right, who cares about slow traffic when you in one of the best lookers and drives around.Greetings from Germany.

Epic machine. The owner has taste. I'd happily have a Jag XJR or XFR. I so wanted an XJR when I was in my late 20's / early 30's. This does look spot on, the whine from the charger is perfect, the exhaust note is perfect. Just an all round cool car.

i now desperately want one. I worked for Jaguar for 30 years. i sat on the technical help line for 5 years, telling main dealer mechanics how to fix them when they were stumped. But i’m still slightly afraid. Am seriously considering one as a second car. This is stunning.
