Jaguar XJC V12 returns but how much did it cost? Plus annual garage spend round up for 2021
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The restoration of my Jaguar XJC V12 manual took 10 months to complete and in this video I go through all the costs on this project and all my other cars in Harry's Garage. I also explain why I'm using ethanol free storage fuel in all my bikes and why I use CTEK chargers in the garage.

Yes, I was wondering, too... I red issue 292 of evo magazine only some days ago, where they wrote about the GR Yaris if it is the greatest hot hatch of 2021. (I disagree with evo!) And when I saw the video I thought: "It only has 3, hasn't it?". :-)

sad the Esprits gone... always loved the look of them since Earls Court Motorshow in '76!!
I think you've done the XJ justice. Not only by restoring it but by making it look almost modern with that stunning paint job. One important aspect of the restoration is that you have enabled some very talented folk to exercise their engineering skills and, hopefully, they'll pass those on to the next generation. Much respect.
Really love the transparency, Harry. Not that we are entitled to know how you spend your pennies, but in an odd way it makes this channel more relatable. The XJC looks immaculate.

Harry’s a very hard worker indeed. He has a large collection of some very demanding vehicles that would crush most people. I sometimes struggle with the ownership of just one toy car. It takes a pair of very broad shoulders to feed a car passion anything close to Harry’s

His patience this year with his various rebuilds! Next time, like with any builders - get a detailed run down when each section of the car is expected to be done and estimated price. Had Harry not continued to visit for video updates, I think he could be waiting another year!
I think these vids also showcase that we still have some great craftsmen and engineers with amazing skills , easy to forget in this throwaway world we live in . Top job by all .

Great post. The idea we are losing such highly skilled artisans is sad. For most people the cheapness and ease of use is more important than enjoying such well performing and artistic vehicles. I am always happy to see videos on older cars with history and class than some which outperform but lack soul.

That line weirds me out so much cos my brother is called Harry.
The projects this year have been among my favorites. A four cylinder Lancia, a V8 Rolls and a V12 Jag all had one thing in common. The cursed demon known as RUST. And no, that is not an acronym for Reveal/Unreal Stealth Technology. It is just a long running battle against a natural process intent on destroying our enjoyment of automobiles. It was thoroughly enjoyable watching these craftsmen work to restore these fine cars. Loved every episode. Here's to a great 2022 and the rebirth of the Lancia!!
As a Jaguar enthusiast from the age of 8,now 63, my father bought a Mk 10 followed by a 3.4 or 3.8s, not sure after all these years. I love all the Jags on Harry's channel and if I ever win the lottery I will make him an offer for the project 8 he can't refuse. Dream on sunshine 🤣
Appreciate your honesty re costs. There are so many channels that hide the true costs of running classics. Its so easy just to state purchase price v current value, which doesn’t show the true story at all.
The Yaris only has three cylinders, I guess it went down to two. Really interesting video, thanks for sharing Harry.

The story of the Jaguar has been amazing, from unknowingly driving a rust bucket to rebuilt to better than new and becoming a valuable addition to harry's collection. I've enjoyed all his video's and look forward to 2022.
The Jaguar XJC looks stunning! In that colour it a real head turner! 👍
I note the old girls original reg plate has changed from CLG 830S.....she was a great car when new, despite the auto box which suited the characteristics of the vehicle, and the softer suspension. I can remember the day I picked her up and drove her home from Chester. Very little would keep up with this car in its day. Thanks for saving her.

Having previously owned an XJ12 6.0 litre Series 3 Manual TWR with a ZF conversion (and loved it), after being forced through divorce to sell it, and later acqiring a low mileage (45k) totally standard Series 3 XJ12 that had sat in a garage for 33 years due to a broken gearbox, I was hell-bent on converting it to a manual, rather than replacing it with another GM400 box. Fortunately, I was given the advice by a friend whose knowledge I knew should be well respected, not to convert to manual and rather to keep the car standard with a fresh GM400. Having never driven the standard car, and only heard the oft repeated "slush box" comments, I was a bit reluctant to heed the advice of my well respected friend. He tried to point out to me that Jaguar had engineered the car, very determinedly, for refinement, rather than to be a sports car. The expense of the conversion, combined with his advice led me to the decision to keep the car standard. I have to say that he was absolutely correct. The "slush box" comments all turned out to be utter garbage. My car is mechanically superb. The engine runs exactly as it was intended having had a lot of time and money spent on the ignition system. The car is something salubrious to drive with the three gears that it has. Ultimately, in my eyes the XJ12 is a forgotten-about master piece in completely standard form. That's probably due to it's reputation for unreliability, which it unfairly obtained because of unconscientious, irregular servicing. But if one of these is maintained correctly...what a car, WHAT A CAR!
love the fact that every year Harry is willing to say what his fleet cost .. can anybody name another you-tuber who is that honest & open ??

2:30 Good trick with the number plate Harry - I own an BMW E36 Coupe and it's common to affix them to the lower grille for the same reason.
The Jaguar looks stunning, that unique amazing colour suits it perfectly and I totally agree about the positioning of the number plate, looks far more elegant set back under the bumper and in black and I'm glad you stayed with those wheels too. I've always loved the shape of these coupes and this one looks sophisticated and purposeful, a real iron fist in a velvet glove, a true gentleman's carriage fit for John Steed, wish it was mine!

Oh, yes, it’s absolutely worth spending that money, especially if the end result is that XJC! Thank you for breathing new life into one of the most under appreciated classics of the modern era.
I think that XJC is actually very good value for the result gained, especially when compared to a lot of the ‘restomods’ being offered. The finish looks incredible and love that the seats have kept the original patina.

I suppose people can disagree about the level of value (although I agree with you, Tom) but I'm just thrilled that Harry brought that car back to prime. After all, they ain't gonna make anymore...
What sets this channel apart is the fact that the GR Yaris has had a suspension upgrade, not just because the sponsorship but because it'll be appreciated by those who use it!
Your Jaguar looks absolutely fantastic... It's almost beyond words how good it looks with the color you chose... Congratulations, it's been a pleasure to watch and I can't wait to see the little Lancia coming back too!
Absolutely beautiful Jaguar! The color and the refinished wheels just make it look amazing!
The perfect end to a perfect year’s viewing 🤛🏻
As you pointed out the oil cooler is massive, it's massive for a reason. The number plate in that position in my view is blocking the air flow to the oil cooler, before when it was attached to the bumper air could circulate behind it. Given that this car will not be used like a conventional daily driver you are unlikely to cause any issues with the engine. I agree though it does look much better under the bumper. Nice job on restoring her.
Allen, Iain and now Harry, the holy trinity! The car looks stunning and what a journey we’ve all been on!

The rebuild costs on the Jaguar V12 and the Lancia Zagato are truly eye-watering, I think that's definitely from a love of cars and not of pure investment potential.
I have to say I wasn’t sure about the Jag color in the thumbnail, but as soon as I saw it in motion it looks stunning! Hopefully you’ll get to enjoy it a lot next year.
Wonderful wonderful work. Knowing the difficulties that any form of Xj6 can throw up when in throws of restoration - the chaps at Painting Classic cars deserve massive praise for what they have achieved with your Xjc. What else so exclusive and so beautiful could you have bought for the money you've spent - I can't think of anything. A great round up of the year - and looking forward to seeing more of the Countach next year! 👍👍
Love what you’ve done with the XJC, but I have to admit, I rather liked it before; £5k of V12, warts and all!
I think William Lyons would approve of your XJC restoration, it looks stunning.
When I was young American I spent many summers in the London area. Like Bourne End. I remember seeing theses Jaguar coupes. Loved them. Still do. Actually more then Jag E types. Watching the coupe episodes brought back memories of my dad who passed a few years ago now. I got him to buy an E type and bring it back to the States back in the 70s. Wish we still had it. Thanks for the videos. Nice job on the Jag.

Happy 2022 and thanks for the vids.
The XJC looks fantastic, Harry-the color is lovely and glad you kept the wheels as is except for a refurb. The patina of the leather is perfect and agree with no vinyl roof-so much nicer without since you aren't hiding metal seams! I think its money well spent and can't wait to see drive reviews when weather/time allows. Happy Christmas.

The XJC has turned out soooo well. Was lucky enough to ride around for a while in the 80's in the 4.2 XJC ( silver with dark roof) so the V12 must be even better. Well done Harry.
Fantastic stuff Harry, love the end of year round ups!
The XJC looks absolutely superlative, really stunning. So glad Harry ignored the 'Pimp My Ride,' brigade and refused to increase the size of the wheels- at the expense of ride quality. The Kent alloys look very classy on the XJ6 and XJC. Fabulous end result, worth every penny.
One of the nicest restorations I have seen, and thank you for keeping the wheels. Fantastic!

Thanks Harry. Your videos have been great this year, very interesting and informative. Much appreciated, looking forward to a few more this year.
Looking at your XJ-C Harry, I feel more and more vindicated about my recent acquisition of a mostly solid, complete and unrestored early XJ-S. It is a clean, low mile, relatively rust free car with a very nice original interior and it has quickly become one of my favourites. I must admit it’s scary as hell too, it tickles all the senses! It’s been stored by the previous owner for the past 21 years, and hasn’t been started in at least 7 years. I have not yet tried to get it running. The engine with all its plumbing and wiring on show looks so good to me also, that said, it’s internal health will be the determining factor of the project. If I have to open the engine it will be out of my league. So far I’m in the club for the equivalent of £1100 and dreaming of the day. Congratulations to you on the successful restoration and thank you for taking the time to take us along on your adventure, it is a very special car.
