Private severs seem cool to me that you can earn points with that just like those other dmm and leages and spend them in main game although it will take some getting used to at the beginning I have seen a lot of severs, one better than the other but from jagex itself will be Nice although I expect a good one from it will bring back all those people who have played RuneScape but well not that I really want it but idea is not bad

The player character being a sort of bumbling idiot in quest dialogue but an extremely capable and competent fighter + everything associated with skills is absolutely how the character should remain. There are quests in which this maybe goes a little too far into silliness but the point is we're capable and competent but not particularly bright. I like that.

Honestly, changing the clothes shop, like Animal Crossing, was one of the most brilliant ideas ever stated. Created a true fashionscape, one based on rarity, the items don't need to be tradeable, or could even rotate on a basis, and have limited amounts, but that would be an insane thing for OSRS.

21:00 During Desert Treasure II, searching for different words using the golem machine was a great way to let players discover hidden lore and optional details There's a TON of different words and names you can input for lore, for example: The most absurd and mind-boggling thing you can discover is that when typing in "Romily Weaklax" (who is the pie baker in Cook's guild and just a random NPC that has existed since 2006), the machine elaborately denies access to his information, implying that he has information inside the ancient machine and is somehow related to it all. How crazy is that?!

I've never thought about why I hate RS3 questing so much, but he nailed it in this video. RS3 quests have a large intertwined story that makes you the hero... I've been missing the quests with quirky stories that offer a small but useful reward at the end, where you are treated as just another adventurer. You don't have to take it too seriously or keep up with a massive story. I have no idea what's going on in RS3s story and tbh couldn't care less

@@corruptiblegaming2138 I am completely fine with what u wrote in ur comment im just tired of people comparing rs3 to osrs, + i think that rs3 has way better quests, they are epic, they are almost like an actual movie, that epic, but the 2 main things every rs3 + osrs player does is questing and levelling up skills, everything else is like a side quest, so, i would kind of agree that levelling in osrs is much better than rs3, especially nowadays, they made terrible updates to combat levelling, just made the grind less fun&unique, but rs3 has better quests. And despite all of this i still think that bouth games r masterpieces and i feel like runescape players overhate everything, example: evoliution of combat, dungeoneering, rs3 in general, microtransactions. Every single one of those is OVERHATED. evoliution of combat = made combat better, why people mad? dungeoneering = just a skill that has more than 2 steps like mining or woodcutting, with woodcutting u chop and u burn, with mining u mine and u smelt, with dungeoneering you explore, you fight, you upgrade gear, you get coins, you level up skills, you find keys, you defeat the dungeon boss. Microtransactions = no one is forced to pay for microtransactions, rs3 is not pay to win, microtransactions LITERALLY saved jagex at one point where they were on the brink of BANKRUPTCY, yes this makes your non-paid progress as a non-ironman less impressive, but i think players should just be proud of what theyvee done themselves, or...just play ironman i guess??? anyway, i hope this explain well why i hate on rs3 haters! lol! peace.

I’m imagining some private servers becoming like roleplaying servers kinda like in GTA, where you pick one or two skills at 99 and that becomes your “job.” You’d have like monster hunters, artisans, etc. PKing is universal but doing so makes you a “criminal.” Being a guard or bounty hunter would have you hunting criminals. Something like that would in a way bring the social aspect back to the game, even if its just on a private server.

When I initially saw the private server stuff I just thought, "Oh that's cool!" Now I'm realizing this is basically just a way for Jagex to identify players who might be good hires and a way to gauge interest in new skills and content. I could see a world where bosses, boss mechanics, items, or even quests spawn from private server content. As for I would use private servers, I could see myself using it someone can get up a server like the beta servers. Being able to practice or learn a new skills, like tank testing or pking, and content, like the Inferno or 6:0 Bandos, with zero consequences would be massive. I feel like a lot of players are afraid to engage in new content they deem hard, and giving them a permanent resource that would allow them to learn with zero strings attached would be a huge first step to helping people engage with harder content they never thought they could do.

It's a common survey/exam/checklist design feature - It's intended to stop people blindly doing a "tick & flick" exercise, and separates out the people actually paying attention who want their opinion to count. You do need to be careful about biasing your results though, so it's supposed to be fairly obvious when they swap the order... not uncommon for companies to overlook that part of it so I wouldn't be surprised if Jagex made that mistake too.

As someone who works 40 hours a week and goes to school, I would love the idea of a Jagex made/owned private server. Boosted xp rates, drop rates, etc. I do not have time to grind OSRS for 8 hours a day to make progress. I have played many private servers and have enjoyed the ones closest to the main game (no custom BS) with improved drop rates and xp rates. One of my best experiences with "runescape" was playing a pretty heavily populated (around 1000 players, sometimes more) private server. It had nearly everything in OSRS as a 1:1 copy in the private server. Raiding, combat, skilling, minigames. It all felt nearly identical to the main game. I had never played an iron man before and made one on the server. I maxed, grinded raids with friends, got nearly BIS all items. It was so much fun.

My biggest reason for being on-board with player-run private servers is that it's *massively* helpful to Jagex for R&D. Private servers, *especially* if they implement something that generates metrics like the Steam Workshop, would be massively useful testing grounds for what mechanics players like and what ideas players hate. They could put out their own tweaks and test new updates that players could opt into, without desecrating the main game that the really hardcore players have defended for so long. It would be a way for Jagex to test out ideas in an environment where the cost of failure is far lower, get much more immediate feedback from players, and even work out kinks with the system and address bugs ahead of time before releasing anything to the main game. Like, there are a bunch of reasons why official private servers would be amazing, but that's the biggest in my book. Definitely something I'd want Jagex and the community to work on a lot more before pushing anything, though. That sort of thing is something that needs extreme consideration before anything is pushed to the public.

  • @KoraOSRS

@@WorthlessUselessLifelessDead You seem to be arguing a point which I didn't actually make. I don't care about pservers (also btw you don't need botting on pservers, xp rates are just inflated to varying degrees on most servers precisely for the reason you give, the kind of ppl who play pservers want fast progress) But as to the rest of your point, yeah the game is repetitive and indeed can be tedious, that's the nature of the game it's, a huge part of its identity is that it's a grindy game, and yeah, not everyone likes that, but everyone has a choice to _not play runescape if they don't like it._ If play actively, and yet also actively dislike the grind, I cannot relate to you in the slightest. The idea of doing something leisurely and disliking it to the point of actively complaining about it makes zero sense to me... It would be like saying "I don't like chess because it's too slow and requires too much patience, but I'm gonna keep playing it and just moan about how boring I think it is and wishing it were different" Sure, go make up your own new chess-like game with your own custom rules, all power to you. But respect that chess is chess, and you are under no obligation to like, nor play it. To be clear, I'm not a purist who thinks xp rates should never be changed, and kept to be as slow as they are, hell I'm maxed and I'm all for new methods to make the grind less tedious, and increase xp rates (to an extent of course), but if you think most bots are just regular players trying to skip the grind which is exactly your implication, you're sorely mistaken... The VAST majority of bots are bot _farms_ which exist solely to make irl money, run by people who don't actually play nor care for the game, which is harmful to the game in several ways. Only a small fraction of bots are regular players trying to speed up progress, and strangely, from masses of anecdotal evidence, those players seem to get banned far FAR more thoroughly than the large scale bot farms. Just hearing all the stories of people getting banned from using AHK to simplify basic repetitive tasks, while seeing the hundreds bots with over 100m xp in various skills still botting in game kind of says it all. WHEW. Long comment, but hey if we're gonna discuss it let's discuss it. People always freak out at comments longer than 12 words on YT, which is sad. People used to write letters to each other to have conversations once upon a time. */GHASP* Last note, I'm not "coming at you", none of this is intended to be upsetting. Realistically it shouldn't take someone any longer than _1 minute_ to read the "long" comment I wrote, if that's too much for someone to read (who has already engaged me in conversation by replying to my first comment), well, that's depressing.

I think that the quest bosses lately have all been really cool, but I have one issue, which is communicating mechanics to players. The last boss of Beneath Cursed sand made me MAD, solely because I didn’t know what the mechanics were, and basically every guide I found was, in hind sight, meant for player ten combat levels higher than I was. Once I found a guide that told me NOT to DPS check the shadow attack and instead just attack the actual boss (not the shadow clone) to cancel their attack, it was EASY, but I that found that guide in some random Reddit thread. The game itself did not communicate that to me at all, and even the wiki didn’t have the info I needed to beat the boss reasonably. Osman was right there, it would have been nice if they added a text option for tips on how the boss actually worked, or something like that.

Think of games like Minecraft, Rust, and tons of other MMOs with thriving private servers (WoW Ascension springs to mind, decent pop for a private server). Might even bring new players. Making servers just for friends/families/co-workers etc, creating servers with special conditions like a Zombie Apocalypse RS, or Goblin overlord where all the major cities are now controlled by goblins and humans are living in smaller settlements scattered around the world, some sort of alliance gangwar server where the world is split into 4 separate faction segments with a neutral open PvP zone with different influential objectives. Say like you get a rare drop and it allows you to make 100 blood runes for xp if you have the level while only taking up one space. Or you get some metal fragment which gives you a temporary smithing speed bonus. Or a piece of bait that gives you 10 fish at a fishing spot and the xp. Have them be rare and untradeable. Not saying to give me 5000 xp but more like 1-2k depending on what you are doing. The worst part of RS3 was "here is 50k for anything", and all you had to do was an encounter.

Couldn’t disagree more on the optional dialogue (and that’s ok). I really liked a Kingdom Divided for the fact that it actually tells a story in a natural way. The characters felt a lot less like game objects to interact with and more living and breathing. People don’t talk in a list of “the next step is____.”

My private server would create several low-mid game bosses to show Jagex how to introduce challenging content at a slow and diverse pace, but not actually play them. More a proof of concept. Scurrius was a step in the right direction but he still has several mechanics.. Dodge falling things. Pray Range Pray Mage Pray Melee Deal with Adds DPS Race b/c he heals. That's way too many mechanics for an introductory low level boss, but it's great for intro to high level because failing the mechanics doesn't 1 shot you. Low level bosses should have 2-3 mechanics each. Boss melees + stomps ground to make things fall. 2 mechanics, 1 can be avoided with protect melee. Boss sends walls of fire with a gap, attacks with magic - 1 can be avoided with protect mage. Boss rotates between a magic attack and a ranged attack - prayer switch mechanic, that's it Chess board arena where you can only damage the boss if you're standing on correct colored tiles, and he uses ranged only - teaches positioning without being overly punishing Plenty of easy options with mechanics without being overly complex to introduce players to using these mechanics so they are prepared for the very challenging end game.

Ok hear me out.. I am a big video game player. Played more games than anybody over the past 25 years. Jagex flying out players, to an in-person event is SUCH a good idea. That is a community really coming together and enjoying their passion for the game. Quite certain games like CSGO and games by bethesda have done similar events.

I agree with you that there needs to be a monetary incentive for community submissions to the Jagex client. It feels wrong for Jagex to rely on community support to make the game better (or even playable in some cases) without anything given in return. As for how that would look, the only one that makes sense to me is an amount paid out per number of active users with that plugin. I doubt it would ever be a number that someone could live off of, at that point Jagex might as well give them a salary. I think you put it well, it just feels weird.

Fun to hear world of warcraft's Elwynn Forest music on your video :P (or.. it's giving me Westfall vibes..) Also, if I could I'd create a private RS server with chatbot NPCs all set to let me play the game like Dungeons and Dragons. I get pulled into the start of a new plot, I ask NPCs about stuff I'm looking for, eventually find where to go, sudden combat scenario's etc. etc., reworked combat to fit the new playstyle.

I think that hosting private servers is the way forward. There's only so much that can be done traditionally with the limitations the game has. It would be the next logical step from the polling system that literally puts the game into the hands of players. The possibilities are endless like the CSS servers of old. We've seen how incredibly well transformative content has done here on KZread, and the likes of Ironman and Leagues. I can definitely see it attracting a lot of renewed interest and be a new way for creators to interact with viewers. From Retro servers to region locks, irons and tiles, Darkscape to Prop Hunt and much more. Pure servers, custom skills, storytelling and role-playing, even that Ruthless mode that you turned your nose up at. Giving players the tools to create their own fun is what keeps the game relevant, and it offers incredible value for money. It also has the added benefit of putting third party RSPS on notice by competing directly and offering a better service.

Custom servers is basically converting runescape into a sandbox of possibilities. Sounds like a great idea. ONLY downside is the possible loss of playerbase in the main server. I don't know how impactful that will be, but it's something to consider.

i think one thing that custom servers will do is significantly kill botting as lots of the players who regularly buy gold are only doing so to do activities like pking. Also would be interesting to see how they charge for private servers, would it be via bonds? Straight cash and how much would it costs for each character to play in a custom server.

I think it would be sick if there was a private server where you had a limited amount of points to set your max skill levels for each skill. So like you can spend points making it so your max strength was 99, max attack was 99, etc. but other skills had to be capped lower. You would still have to level the skills but you would reach a cap. It would basically let players make custom classes for their characters and determine which quests and content you could do.

The OSRS quest tab is what makes me love OSRS so much. The quests, the strangers, the rewards, the monsters to slay, treasure to find... To me it is just wonderful. It is a list of fantastic stories that make Runescape what it is.

Yeah I would love to see them introduce a lot more quests. Especially in the vein of twisted tales, where they're more like small, self-contained adventures aimed at lower and mid-level players. I will probably never do Song of the Elves, but I really enjoyed Garden of Death.

I was never much into the quests in osrs. There are about ~30 that are arguably great though whether it's the story or the fights but other than that quite a lot of them are boring and unrewarding. The only reason you really do a lot of them is to unlock a quest locked behind it.

new quests are so bad compared to OG ones though, the new devs don't seem to have clue what made runescape lore charming. Dragon Slayer 2 was just a completely random collection of mostly memes.

@@nomorenames5568 Some of them are pretty good. I think they've generally done best when either A) stealing from tried and true quests from RS3 or B) telling smaller, self-contained stories.

A private server would be amazing. I would develop for one like a full time job. Rebalancing skill exp for the mid range to higher range skilling, expanding item crafting, new armor/weapons, classes with abilities (example:paladin, lvl 50def, lvl 50 prayer, restore 1 prayer/tick) the possibilities would be wild
