The sad truth is almost every trill can have a symbiote but there is so few they know they would become a commodity. And this would happen more often.

As far as I remember, I was very disappointed with this episode. There hardly was any screen time for just Jadzia, and did she even talk to Benjamin or NEW Dax? The scenes with Benjamin and NEW Dax were fine, but what does it say about Dax that he didn't care the most about dying Jadzia? Imagine a scene with the two of them talking, etc, how much a host really means to them, if they don't want to save someone who would DIE otherwise. Also, was there any confrontation about this with Jadzia Dax afterwards, with this guy or Benjamin? So much left unexplored. The Behind the Scenes just indicate that the writers wanted this episode to show that most Trills are not symbiotically joined. Great. The other stuff would be much more interesting.

This is after all a brand new species that is now regular on DS9. Show us all the interesting sci-fi ideas AND how that relates to the characters, Ben and Dax and Jadzia.

But to what end is Lionel Luthor doing this? To spite his son Lex? To defeat the blur/Superman?

I wonder how he would've felt if he heard about how Dax got a new host.

For some reason I thought Dax would be smaller, and lodged in the heard/brain of a Trill, hence the sharing of memory.

I haven't watched this in a while.... why do they just let him do it? 🤣🤣 like.... just say "no, you can't have Dax, enjoy our security team"

It’s been awhile since I watched this episode as well. But if I remember right there was some kind of dangerous space storm going on and they had to evacuate the station, leaving only a skeleton crew to look after ds9. Unfortunately because the storm caused understaffed security and disruptions to the technology, this group sneaked onto the station and held everyone hostage. The group sorta leader only had one demand, he wanted the Dax symbiont. So everyone on ds9 had only two choices at the time, ether give up Dax and let Jadzia die or refuse and have the whole crew be killed. If you look in the backgroundo of the video, you’ll see Klingons holding weapons while our main characters are unarmed. Fortunately our main characters found a way to get Dax back to Jadzia. The whole episode really helps you understand how symbionts and hosts work, it’s really interesting.

I just watched this episode. To expand on what LeahDaydreamer said, Quark had given the Klingons the station security access because he thought they were there to buy one of his things (He had made a deal with them beforehand and didn't know they were hired to help take Jadzia's symbiont). A plasma storm caused the station to be temporarily evacuated, so there was no one on the station left except for the main ops crew. So it was a combination of a skeleton crew during a storm+Quark fucking up by not realizing what their real purpose on the station was that allowed them to be temporarily successful. Also, when they board the station, they immediately put Odo in a sealed container so that he can't shapeshift or deal with them.

His actions are worse than the Boards, he essentially disregards all he’s worked for in order to take what can only be given. Is it truly yours? Like love or companionship at best is simply selfishness. The opposite of his hearts wish.

I can't help but feel for this guy, I know exactly what he went through. Busting your ass and sacrificing everything to achieve something you've wanted your whole life, and then all of it being brought down in an instant by circumstances beyond your control and by people who couldn't care less about you or the hard work you've put in. I know EXACTLY how he felt.

I imagine that for a joined Trill the symbiant is more like a part of the body. So then it might be like saying "He's come to steal my brain" or "He's come to steal my leg" or whatever. Well that's what I imagine anyway. :-)

The symbiant is definitely a separate life form, they change their name to reflect the DUAL nature of their existence, their whole life is changed by the memories of all the other lives their symbiant joined with. There is zero doubt in my mind they ever forget that the symbiant is a separate life form.

However, pets and plants are viewed as property due to them being lesser life forms, especially since they are bought and sold all the time. But would anyone consider a symbiant akin to a pet? The symbiant is older, wiser, more intelligent.... if anything, it's the trill who's the pet. How about, "he's come to take my master"?

OK buddy, calm down. To steal something is to take it without intending to return it, you kidnap someone/something typically to obtain a ransom. Steal would be the correct term seeing as his plan was to take it and run away through the worm hole.

It was later found in the series almost half the population of trill was capable of hosting a symbiont. It was a big government cover up. So it was a 50/50 shot of her being compatible.
