Jade Oswald: "On the Steps of the Palace" - at ALEX YOUNG & FRIENDS

Royal Academy of Music graduate Jade Oswald performs Cinderella's "On the Steps of the Palace" from Sondheim & Lapine's Into the Woods. Jade is appearing in ALEX YOUNG & FRIENDS cabaret, celebrating the best of musical theatre at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate.
This two-nights only cabaret features songs performed by JORDAN BROATCH, ALASTAIR BROOKSHAW and DESMONDA CATHABEL, with support from this year's Finalists from The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition (which was won by Desmonda). Jade took home the third-place prize.

ABOUT JADE
Jade graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2022 with Distinction in Masters Degree & DipRAM and the Regency Award for Excellence and Achievement. She also studied Musical Theatre for three years at Trinity Laban (2018-2021) and was a members of the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) for three shows (2017-2020). She also won the third-place prize in the 2022 "Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year" competition (Sondheim Theatre).
Recent credits include Ensemble in "Treason The Musical in Concert" (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), "Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends - A Celebration" (Sondheim Theatre) and "Maria Friedman and Friends: Legacy" (Menier Chocolate Factory).
Roles in training include: Margaret Johnson in "The Light in the Piazza", Julia (lead) in "Walking on Words: Songs of Drew Gasparini", Don Jon in "Much Ado About Nothing", Morticia in "The Addams Family", and Lucy in "Snoopy The Musical".
Jade was also a backing singer for "14 on Fire: The Rolling Stones Concert" in Du Arena, Abu Dhabi in 2014.
ABOUT ALEX YOUNG
Alex Young graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (PGDip) and King’s College London (BMus) and was the 2010 winner of The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition. She most recently played the Baker’s Wife in the Terry Gilliam/Leah Hausman production of "Into the Woods" at Theatre Royal Bath, and before this starred as Cora Hoover Hooper in the acclaimed revival of "Anyone Can Whistle" at the Southwark Playhouse, for which she received an Offie Award nomination for Best Lead Performance in a Musical.
Other theatre credits include: Amalia Balash in "She Loves Me" (Sheffield Crucible), Nellie Forbush in "South Pacific" (Chichester), Sarah Brown in "Guys and Dolls" (Sheffield Crucible), Poppy in "Standing at the Sky’s Edge" (Sheffield Crucible), Sally Smith in "Me and My Girl" (Chichester), Young Sally in "Follies" (National Theatre), Carrie Pipperidge in "Carousel" (ENO/Coliseum), Marge in "Promises, Promises" (Southwark Playhouse), Ellie May Chipley in "Show Boat" (New London Theatre and Sheffield Crucible) and Erma in "Anything Goes" (Sheffield and UK tour). Alex also played the role of Brutus in "Coriolanus" at the Crucible.
With writing partner Kate Marlais, Alex is currently developing the musicals "Fucked in Marrakech", "If I Am Real" and "Ghosted". Their musical "Here" won the S&S Award in 2015, and in 2019 they were finalist in the Composium classical song competition.
Alex will be returning to the Crucible in December this year for another run of "Standing at the Sky’s Edge", prior to its transfer to the Olivier at the National Theatre in February 2023.
