Jacques Pépin's Hearty Kidney Bean Stew Recipe | Cooking at Home | KQED
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
As the weather turns colder, Jacques Pepin's kidney bean stew recipe will add some warmth to your table. Poblano pepper gives this stew a little kick. Jacques advises that, when it comes to cilantro, don't sleep on the stems! He likes to keep his leftover cilantro wrapped and frozen for easy dicing. Let us know if you try this recipe!
What you'll need:
2 tbsp olive oil, 1 can dark kidney beans, 1/3 cup lardon (diced pancetta), 2 cloves garlic, 1 poblano pepper, 1/2 cup diced tomato, salt, cilantro

I firdt learned to cook from my mother, the daughter of a depression era butcher with 9 kids on a farm. We mom amd dad also had a restaurant... But with 9 kids, mom amd dad and the hired hands, mom and grandma basically ran a full kitchen 3 meals a day. Id tell my mother "theres nothing to eat." She'd pull seemingly random stuff from the fridge/cupboard and turn out something like this. She was a pro at turning "nothing" into something delicious. 😊
Thank you so much for these videos. I like that Chef Pepin does not waste anything, not even cilantro stems. 😊

I just used his freezer technique and added the cilantro stems to my (his) black bean soup. His recipe is the best!
I appreciate the effort to censor the G*ya label for exactly one shot. Not sure why Tuttorosso label survived the blur filter in the same shot. But I'm sure the editor tried their best.
Wow... My cousins grabbed a bag of Kidney beans a few days ago. Might give this a go
Tried this the other day....very easy and very delicious.
Yes indeed.
Change cilantro to parsley, switch beans to canneloni, subtract pablano and add a cup of pene pasta and you have Jacque's Paste e Fagiole recipe!
Nice early winter scoff .
Simple, Easy, Perfect home cooking. Also very easy to leverage. Fresh good tomatoes instead of the canned. Fresh beans, pre-cooked in water for about an hour instead of the canned ones - and this becomes even better. However - What's presented here will by absolutely tasty and welcome by any normal family. It's GOOD.
G.O.A.T.
God bless this man
I got lucky and scored some Hatch chilies recently, which I froze, I'm going to do this with those chilies! This is good winter comfort food recipe!
This reminds me of his great show Fast Food My Way.
I feel like this would also be great adding some rice in there.

💯
What a great idea for the cilantro! I will try and get into the habit of that technique.
Thanks Jacques
Loved this. Did it with the suggested pork chop, and inexpensive. Thank you!
As someone who abhors cilantro, I will confirm the stems have more taste than the leaves!
Looks great. I kept waiting for Chef to add some stock.
Looks terrific. Best of any chef. ❤
Jacques is a treasure beyond all treasures - than you for this - Il ne faut rien laisser au hasard. Merci
Oh this sounds yummy...saving/sharing❤

I love watching these, i can find a quick easy lunch. Can you make chili beans?
Love the Cuban shirt!
I just adore you. Hopefully, Julia Child really knew, how special you are.
Delecius cook ..
That would be great with just rice.
Is this video old? He looks so good for being nearly 90

Expect continuing good looks from the former Handsomest Man on Earth 😊❤
I always keep my stems for soups etc.
Roasting the Pepper on open stove top flame , put in small 1.5 qt pan with tight lid..wait 10 min peel and re.over . Reduce the lectin.. Boil bean after quick soak..rinse..same thicken in slow crock 3 hours.. Also reduce lectin

why is the "Goya" label blurred (especially since you can see it in other camera angles and in many other videos of your's)?
I’d change the beans as I am not a navy bean fan.
Brand new episodes of yan can cook season 6
lol they blurred out the GOYA label

@@MikehMike01 ikr, they don't blur out any other label. Pretty lame but TDS is rampant
at 13s into the video I see you are using GOYA beans. I wouldn't consider any other, but why is it censored?
Na ba black sheep
Jacques uses canned tomatoes!

Many restaurants and top tier chefs use canned tomatoes, though it’s sometimes for the taste of San Marzano style tomatoes. I use them to make a number of dishes, even when I make my sauce with fresh tomatoes I’ll add good hand crushed plum tomatoes (sometimes packed with fresh basil.). Stock up on good quality when they’re on sale. They have a long shelf life.
Hmm, petty censoring of bean can. Ok, petty no longer donating to KQED.

Blurring out brand names was done by Jacques’ team during editing and is a common television practice. www.quora.com/Why-are-brand-names-or-logos-blurred-in-some-TV-shows

@@kqed Thanks for the snarky response. I'll take you seriously when the other can's label is blurred.

Apologies if this reply sounded snarky rather than helpful, as intended. The blurring was done by Jacques’ production team and is a best practice to comply with trademark regulation.
His knife needs sharpening? Are you kidding?!
Goya label has been blocked because of the political views of that company being in conflict with the political views of those who run PBS-- all unbeknownst to Jacque.

Maybe Goya said they don’t want their label shown. Why speculate on things you know nothing about?
