What a beautiful interpretation of Jacobs cover of Fix You. When I first watched his original video of Fix You , I was mesmerized and found myself returning throughout the days that followed humming life will fix you. And now I’ve learned how his choices of key change, shifts, and voice inflections made his performance so touching. Thank you for your celebration of Jason’s talent all while doing what he loves. I am imagining that listeners worldwide will give themselves permission to reach outside the norm and create with abandon .

Jacob Collier, the genius of our time. It fascinates, amazes and delights with its musicality and revealing, even revolutionary definition of sound. The best of the best.

It’s very special. Since starting my YT channel it’s as though my whole world has opened up. I haven’t listen to Puccini or Schubert in a long time. But for some reason, I’ve developed a passion for Bach!

Jacob's voice is a gift from heaven. Your intricate analysis of his singing as "painting" perfectly captures my journey through his musical universe I've discovered only recently. It is a rich and complex tapestry that seems to grow infinitely, beyond borders.

Thank you! I’ve heard many reviews of this song and I’ve never heard it put quite the way did. I really enjoyed the connection to Debussy and the impressionists.

Have you heard JC cover “Just the Way You are”? Jacob is a once in a generation (if not once in a century) talent… as a musician myself, I sometimes find it frightening exactly how talented he is, particularly at such a young age. By the way, if you haven’t listened to another of Quincy Jones’ discoveries, Dirty Loops… I’d recommend “Breakdown” for starters.

Excellent analysis - loved the comparison with the impressionists. Hadn't thought of him in that way but it's so true.

5:38 - when you compared Jacob's music to Monet or Cezanne, it reminded me of the movie "Round Midnight". Have you seen it? There's a scene where the main character Dale Turner, a jazz saxophonist (played by Dexter Gordon), is looking through a book of Monet paintings and his friend asks him if he likes Monet and he replies something like "Oh, yes. All the colors...he sounds like Ravel or Tadd Dameron. It's like bebop." (And, if you haven't seen it, there's another part where Dale talks about his influences. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpmnrrOGl7msqrA.html "The swing bands used to be all...Straight tonics, seventh chords. And then, with the Basie band...I heard Lester Young...and he sounded like he came out of the blue. Because he was playing all the color tones...The sixths and the ninths...And major sevenths. You know, like Debussy and Ravel. Then Charlie Parker came on...And he began to expand and...He went into elevenths and thirteenths...And flat fives. Luckily, I was going...In the same direction already. You just don't go out...And pick a style off a tree one day. The tree is inside you growing naturally.")

You also have an extraordinary way of painting with words. Very good ears as well! Excellent video!

Really great reaction/analysis! When Jacob went through these changes your facial expression must have matched mine when I first heard them. What a journey to go on... and when you know Jacob, you know the destination of that journey will be a beautiful one!

I'm sure.you're aware he won the gold.medal grade 8 abrsm singing. He sat under his.mum's piano when she gave violin lessons as a child and hears music as colours. There are 2 special qualities to Collier's work: he always takes you on a harmormonic journey and brings you home and it's always the road less travelled. Sometimes he overdoes it. Personally I want him to put pop to one side and to create modern classical music (he was very taken by Benjamin Britten having been in The Turn of the Screw). Whatever he does, we are blessed to have talent like this in the world.

Love love love Jacob Collier. I had the great opprotunity to hear him live in Stockholm July 16, 2022. He did a wonderful version of Dancing Queen by ABBA. It is amazing to be conducted by Jacob 😊. No I don’t have micro perfect pitch but I can usually tell keys. And I’m singers I can always tell the notes. Not quite sure why but probably from so much listening.

Would you like to be introduced to one of the great great voices of our time? Have a look (hear) at Nightwish, Ghost Love Score live in Wacken, 2013. Floor Jansen, the singer of Nightwish is such a versatile singer. But be prepared! One, you would go into a genre which is called symphonic metal and two, you would summon the Nightwish army in your comment section... but that's a good thing!
