Jackie Wilson - TV Coverage of of his Funeral and Biography (1984)

Ойын-сауық

Here is rare footage of tv coverage of Jackie Wilson's funeral and mini biography. There are three or four different coverage on his funeral included in this video, and ironically at the same time of Jackie's death, was the same time Michael Jackson had his accident, so coverage was done on both, so included is a few moments of coverage on MJ, don't want to take attention away from Jackie, but the footage came together. How coincidental two sad occasions of two legends (who have been compared) happen around the same time. It's widely known Jackie was a huge influence on MJ.
I have to give respect to Levi Stubbs and The Tops and Marv Johnson, a few Motowners, for showing respect at Jackie's funeral.

Jackie Wilson's voice- what a thrill it was growing up with that. Totally unique and devastating, hauntingly beautiful. Thank you for posting the coverage of his funeral. There would have been no Michael Jackson without Jackie Wilson. I'll dance to "Higher and Higher" til I drop! Jackie Wilson is GREAT! I love his music and videos. I learned that after he had his stroke and was in the hospital all those years Elvis Presley paid his medical bills until Elvis died in 1977. He thought that much of Jackie. Nice story.

You guys took very good care of him. The family in Detroit initially wanted a closed casket funeral but were assured he could be made to look just the way he did when healthy. Mason's Funeral Home did an outstanding job. Ironically, the Reverend Dr. Stephen C. Campbell baptized Jackie Wilson as a teen at Russell Street Baptist Church, & the son, Rev. Anthony C. Campbell preached him on home.

I never knew Jackie got a funeral and I am so happy to find that out. I heard he died in a nursing home and heard no more about it. Glad for the big turnout he certainly deserved it. Too bad this mega talent did not have better business dealings with his manger. They took him for everything he had. Brunswick Label narrated by Barbara Walters

Jackie Wilson suffered a heart attack while performing at a concert. He lapsed into a coma where he remained until his death. Jackie was idolized by Elvis Presley. What was only known by a few was that Elvis Presley maintained Jackie Wilson during his eight-year stay in a private nursing rehabilitation center in his home town of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, until his death.

Help me understand something. He passed in "84". He was in a coma for 8 years, which brings us back to "76". Elvis died in "77". How did he care for him if he only lived another year himself? Was a fund set up in Jackie's name? No shade, I'm just trying to grasp the story a little better. Thanks.

San47di lol don't forget his absence from church for 8 yrs. Lol sometimes happens when ppl are in comas for 8yrs, homework was not done Stubbs is the one who helped Bobby Brooks Wilson realize that he was jackies son, cause he not only looked and sounded like him but had his mannerisms.

nowatout ~ Most of those artists remained in a state of hopelessness and despair. They still may not have been physically living in the projects, but they caught hell all the same. But of course, you know this. The exception, was Diana Ross.
