The heavier weight can be a positive as well as a negative, it can be a positive in that if you are using the panels on a windy day the heavier panel is less likely to be tossed about in the wind.

I can’t believe Renogy skimped with the P.W.M. controller option over M.P.P.T. I’d go for the one without any controller as most generators have an M.P.P.T. controller inside them. Certainly the Renogy is more sturdy in breezy conditions. Although the Jackery has the U.S.B. outputs, I can’t see these being of much use. Great comparison production Adrian. Thank you for sharing.

I guess they do it to keep the costs down, but I'd only go the MPPT route (definitely worth the extra cost for direct battery charging). Can you use the jackery solar panel to charge a inergy flex 1500 or a Lion Safari LT 500W? I’m new to solar generators and solar panels and found a jackery solar saga panel 100W and a Lion generator for sale on OfferUp and don’t know if that set up would work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The Jackery panel has similar output characteristics to other 100W panels, so providing the units can accept the voltage of a 100W panel it should work. You might need an adapter though, as the Solar Saga has an 8mm dc output that might not directly fit. Do you have links to the units mentioned so I could have a look? All the best, Adrian

Just to clarify, do you mean this panel > amzn.to/36N7xP2 (affiliate link) and this Ecoflow > amzn.to/3u2WNoQ (affiliate link)? If so, based on the specs for the EF it has a Solar Charge Input of 200W 10-25V DC 12A Max, so it would depend on the voltage output of the Renogy folding panel. If the panel above is the right one, the two 100W panels would need to be connected in parallel, otherwise the voltage would be too much for the 25V limit on the EF. If you could confirm I've got the right ones above, I'll see if the Renogy is parallel connected like the smaller 100W folding one I have. All the best, Adrian

Do you have a Jackery parallel connector, the one that has two 8mm DC inputs to Anderson connector output to plug into the 1000? All the best, Adrian

Hi great video. I have the Anker 525 power station and it comes with the XT60 connector to yellow barrel plug that goes into the power station to charge over solar power. Is there an adapter that offers MC4 to the yellow barrel plug so that I can use this with the Anker unit? Sorry don’t know the name of that yellow plug thing 😂 hope you can help. Thanks

It looks like the DC input (DC 7909) is similar to the Jackery units, as mentioned on the Anker website "Use any 12V-28V solar charger with a DC 7909 male connector to charge the power station". This is the one I use on both my Jackery power stations and PowerOak EB150 > amzn.to/38LpGKQ (affiliate link). It should fit yours, but I'm unable to test my end as I've not got your unit. @Cathryn Roberts Thanks for the info. From what I can find you can connect up a solar panel direct with the correct cable. This is from their FAQ > www.dometic.com/en-gb/outdoor/uk/support/faq/what-solar-panels. So, you could go for a 100W panel like this > amzn.to/2ZFAzfx (affiliate link) and this video might help > kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYmlk86nfc3Mcc4.html. The solar cable needs to have a 'grey SB50 Anderson connector’ the end that fits into the PLB40 (as per the FAQ) and I'd suggest going for MC4 connectors on the other end (to connect to a solar panel like the Renogy one I’ve mentioned). Did you need the panel to portable and fully weatherproof? Cheers, Adrian

I’m so glad I came across this video! There are dozens of videos on either of these panels, and I know many KZreadrs with both, but no one puts them head to head. The burning question I have is how they compare in durability? Looks like the Jackery is more flimsy, and susceptible to cracking the cells/connections just like the flexible SunPower panels they’re based on. Whereas the Renogy is more rigid but glass is obviously fragile. What would you say since you’ve handled both? Which one would be better for someone that doesn’t like to “baby” their outdoor equipment?

@eai2l Good day! I really appreciate your feedback on this as I didn't know whether it would appeal or not. I'll have to base some of my answer on experience with the 100W glass panels I already have. They have had quite a bit of damage, been dropped, dented, scratched glass, etc and are still working fine. I've managed to rip out cables from the connector boxes many times, but reconnected or replaced. My rigid panels live most of the time on grass, not hard (concrete) surfaces, which would damage the frame more over time for heavy dropping. Saying all this, I prefer rigid panels as their performance and weatherproof nature means they tend to last better over time. For me, the good thing for longevity is that I can repair the Renogy (like my 100W panels) if I damage the cables or legs and broken glass (scratched and still working on 100W panels) is the only real thing that could stop a repair. The price difference makes it an easier pill to swallow on the Renogy side, where I've not broken any panel glass as yet and the Jackery would need to be cut open to repair with no guarantee of success and a mess afterwards. You may not be able to answer this, and I’m sure you don’t want to test your Jackery in this way, but do you know if it can be “overflexed” easily? I’ve seen KZreadrs talk about accidentally cracking their flexible panels when a bend more than 30 degrees is placed, I wonder how much more rigid the Jackery is, or if it is just as susceptible to accidental cracking or even warping over time - it’s just a woven nylon type backing right?

@eai2l No problem at all, glad to help. I guess it depends on how much pressure is exerted. For me, opening them up and using the kick stands doesn't seem like it would cause any damage. Putting heavy items on a folded panel could potentially damage it, but keeping it upright and storing as such should keep it in good condition. It seems rigid enough with a backing board of some description. The only thing that might cause a problem is if you unfold the panel so the back of each one touches each other, as this may put pressure on the connections between panels. I always ensure that when I open the panels, I use the kick stands so it stops this happening naturally. I hope this helps. Cheers, Adrian
