    My Jackery 1000 is very portable. I take it out back to run my Traeger pellet BBQER. Then to the garage to run my washer for laundry. I take it camping etc. I keep my AC200P in a spare bedroom hooked to my house fridge and freezer 24/7. It’s connected to 3 BougeRV 180 w PV panels. Plus I charge several power tool batteries and small solar power stations with it. My 3 bedroom 2 bath home electric bill was $19 for February in Eastern WA State. About $11 dollars is for Administrative fees and taxes. My home has a gas furnace for heat. Gas bill averaged $50/mo during winter. It’s usually $12/mo in Summer. My water heater is gas powered too.

    Great review. Appreciate your comparisons to a gas generator. Where as most in the power station love land just use the opportunity to trash gas generators you offered fair comparisons. As one who owns a Jackery 500 and a few inverter style generators the lithium power stations fill a space in the power needs area. These power stations are great for folks that can easily and consistently obtain solar power or pass through power via 12v or 120v. Thinking of the van life, truck camper, etc. I do believe the larger power stations are neat and tempting but at current pricing it is hard to replace our trusty Yamaha inverter for around the farm and boondocking we do in the camper. Enjoy your new 1500 and appreciate the full comparison to the 1000.

    Nice Review, very thorough. I only have 1 reason for buying the 1000 or 1500 and that is for my Resmed c-pap machine. I do not use the humidifier when on extended camping trips but I plan on buying one that will get me as many nights as I can because my brother just told me we are doing a 2 weeker. In your expert opinion what one would be my best investment. Thanks Gary PS. My head is spinning from looking at bluetti's, jackeries and every other power bank out there.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Do you know how much power your resmed uses? The best way to measure would be a watt meter like this: amzn.to/2XhNxPG or sometimes the manufacturer will specify power draw. If you can get your average watt use, multiply by how many hours you’ll sleep each day, times number of days and you’ll have your watt hours. A Jackery (or whatever brand) 1000 has about 1000 watt hours of power so if your resmed uses 60 watts on average you’ll get about 11 hours of use. I would assume you’ll use less than 60W but have no idea what those machines draw. Then your question is how much you want to spend, how much you want to carry/move, and whether you can add solar or a battery “top off” during your 2 weeks to reduce your power need.

    The way I sleep right now when we go is, I bring a deep cycle marine battery from Walmart and I HOOK THAT UP TO MY INVERTER (410 w ) which clips on to my battery. It was brought to my attention that my battery gives off fumes and could be dangerous, so I've been researching power banks, but don't want to spend a 1k for just 3 or 4 nights. I got 6 nights out of my battery last time I went camping but carrying around a 65lb battery, an inverter and the c-pap machine (don't forget this, or that) I like to be neat and condensed and that's why I would like to purchase a power station, but just need help on somebody who can help me on one, that will give me some longevity. Thanks Gary

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    So if it’s 8W average draw, 8W * 8hrs = 64wHr per day. 1000wHr Jackery / 64 = 15.64 days so that gets your 2 weeks right there. Depending on how you camp you could top up with your car or a wall outlet to extend your trip as well.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    You're definitely going to need to "go big" since the space heater will draw a ton of power when on. Frankly I doubt you'd get more than ~45 minutes of running the heater on the 1500. For heat I'd strongly consider something propane/fuel-based. Instant Pot would fare a little better assuming it turns the heating element on/off. I'd strongly recommend getting a watt meter, and plugging in whatever you plan to run off your Jackery and checking the power draw. It may sound like a pain, but will save you from buying an expensive battery that won't meet your needs. For your devices, you want to look at the peak draw and usage (try cooking a typical meal in your instapot and see what peak load and overall use look like). Here's what I'm talking about on the watt meter: amzn.to/3ElXdJw. Good luck!

  • @cash2.0

    Less wear on the batteries for the same load with the larger unit and still lighter than many gas generators. I wouldn't worry about theft at home as much as I would left in a car. Gas generators stowed in a car will leak gas fumes but you can leave a gas generator locked in a truck bed and rain probably won't harm it. I wouldn't do that with a power station. What I like best about a power station is you don't need to start a generator every time you want to run an intermittent load. I plan to get a Jackery later this year. I like their build quality.

    The Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells in the Bluetti AC200P are superior in pretty much every way to Jackery's Lithium Ion NMC cells except for their overall weight. That's why the AC200P weighs 61 lbs; vs the Explorer's weight of only 33 lbs. For many people lower overall unit weight might be more appealing than longevity.

    Best way to get an accurate read is to hookup a watt meter (something like this: amzn.to/2VIo01z) and see what your fridge consumes over an average week. Use that to size your Jackery. Fridges are hard since so much depends on the insulation, how much you open it, etc.

    What is the actual lifespan of a Jackery 1000 battery. Certainly it would depend on its usage so using it moderately, summer camping and emergency only home use - would you say 5 years, 10 years? Or more ? I would expect that after a set amount of time the battery itself would become less reliable to recharge and eventually would expire.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Jackery rates the battery as losing 80% capacity after 500 charge cycles, so like most batteries, it's not going to just up and die, but will slowly lose capacity. I probably do 50-100 full recharge cycles each year so that's 5-10 years before I'm at 80% capacity. Newer battery technologies like LiFePo don't have this capacity loss effect but it's likely negligible for casual users.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    With the 1500 you can attach up to 4 of their 100W solar panels, using an adapter that lets you plug two panels into one input. With 4 panels in good sunlight I've seen a bit over 4 hours to charge from near 0%. Supposedly Jackery has 200W panels in the works. I'm not sure if you could still get ~4 hours with two of those panels, or if you could attach 4 and get down to two hours. At some point you do become limited by the rate at which the batteries/charge controller can accept a charge.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    To figure it out, get the Wh usage of your CPAP. Easy way is to look on the label on the machine or web, "better" way is to actually measure it while you use it with something like this watt meter (amzn.to/3jfEKoR). Take that usage, and divide by the WH capacity of your machine to get hours. So if your CPAP uses an average of 40W/hr, divide by the 1000W of the Jackery 1000, and you'll get 25 hours. If you sleep and use your CPAP 7 hours/night, divide by 7 and you've got 3.6 nights.

    I have a question. I don't understand how a unit with 50% more battery capacity and more watt hours can power something for the same amount of time as the smaller unit. I think you referenced both would run a coffee maker or hot plate for the same amount of time. I'm confused, I would think that I would be able to power something for a longer period of time than the smaller one. Can anyone help clarify this? Thank you!

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    Both will power a hot plate or coffee maker (e.g. supply enough watts to run the devices) but the 1500 will power the same device for ~50% more time. Sorry if that wasn't totally clear. How "power hungry" a device you can power is dependent on the rating of the inverter vs. the size of the battery. Things get a bit confusing with all the different ratings. Interestingly, you CANNOT run a miter saw with the Jackery 1500 as I discovered recently: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoWKxsOOdLvQg6Q.html

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    You can do the math relatively easily by figuring out how many watts your device uses (often printed on the device) and divide by the wHr capacity of the power bank. So if I have a 60W light bulb and a 600 wHr battery bank I’d get 10 hours. It gets tricky in that most devices don’t use constant power. Your fan will generally be pretty constant, but a CPAP, computer, hot plate, fridge, or space heater will turn on and off or vary quite a bit. If you need something “mission critical” like a CPAP I’d recommend getting a watt meter (something like this: amzn.to/3OheF5T) and monitor use for 24 hours. Divide the watts by capacity similar to above and you’ll get the days of use. It will likely be a decimal number you’ll need to convert to hours.

BTW, we are ALL "very disappointed" you didn't connect the E1500 to that top-of-the-line popcorn machine you have in the background! Is your recommendation a buy or hold for the E2000 capacity and additional tech? I realize you commented on a decision between the E1500 and their E1000, but that one bump up to the model 2000 is also a consideration. Laslty, did Jackery tell you how users obtain the 2nd AC brick system for dual, concurrent, 600-watt recharge capabilities? For me you start to get to a point of diminishing returns of weight/portability. Assuming the 2000 is pushing 44lbs that just doesn't seem all that practical except for stationary use in a vehicle or home. No word on the second power brick, or if the internal charge controller could actually handle 600W, but that would be crazy if you could charge in 3'ish hours!

    They moved the "on/off" buttons to the sides of the AC and USB outlets on the 1500, versus putting them on top on the 1000, so they did indeed have to mash the AC outlets a bit closer together on the 1500. I don't have the 1000 or my calipers with me so I'm not sure how much closer they are, but your eyes are not deceiving you. In either case, I keep a set of "shorty" extension cords like this amzn.to/3zas0IU in my "bag of power bank stuff" since invariably you'll find a power brick or something that covers multiple outlets.

    The flip side is that if you're heading out camping or boondocking you can leave the AC brick at home and lose 0.5-1lbs of weight. I do wish (and have suggested to Jackery) that they had some sort of storage compartment or similar so if you're pulling one of these out in an emergency you're not left searching the "cord drawer" for the right adapters and plugs. The "lowfi" solution I'm thinking of would be sewing some velcro to the cord case, and putting a strip on the unit but that seems kind of lame. I haven't handled the Ecoflow but the good news is that there seems to be growing competition in this space vs. the old days of Goal Zero or DIY being the only two options.
