Jack White Made Me This Surprise Gift!

Ғылым және технология

Adam just received a surprise gift from Jack White--a restoration of his favorite workshop stool! Among many other things, Jack White is also a trained furniture upholsterer, and has never stopped practicing the craft. Adam shows off the details of the stool Jack White made for him, including specific material and design choices made with Adam in mind! What a beautiful and thoughtful piece!

Fun story (I think I heard him tell it in _It Might Get Loud_ but I'm not sure): when he was working as an upholsterer, he and fellow upholsterer Brian Muldoon were in a band, The Upholsterers. They used to hide their record in some of the furniture they upholstered. In fact, that may be what he's referring to at 5:12.

I cannot help observe even from my own experience that the "maker" culture seems to foster a strong sense of thankfulness. Inspiration, exposure to clever useful tools, a finished project and even just seeing the build process all are valued things. Unhesitating credit given is also fantastic to see as well as the "narrative" of the objects involved. Thanks so much Adam, you inspire a faith in the better nature of humanity.

I'll say this again: Adam's unbridled, unabashed enthusiasm for his subject material is at least half of the reason I come here. The man is genuinely excited about the thought that went into creating this seat cushion. He's jazzed about the decisions that were made in materials and color. It feels like he wants his audience to be as happy about his chair as he is. The man is a national treasure.

As a professional Upholsterer, Jack White is very well known in the Upholstery community and a favorite story continually circulated about Jack is that when he was struggling to become known to music fans, he would put his first album within the carcass of the furniture he was restoring. I often leave a note for the next upholsterer in historic pieces, but would be blown away to find a Jack White Album !

so im pushing 31 and am no where near where id like to be in life. Im starting to tackle my mental health which is a BASTARD of a task (BP2) my point is, I just found this channel and have been binge watching and fmy take away is I hope once I get my head right I can be as productive and happy as you are. Ive got tons of creative ideas in my head but can never produce them because of the way my brain works. Keep doing what you do man, you're an inspiration of creativity and dedication.

Jack White is a creative genius. Everything he creates there's just so much artistic thought put into it. I'm in awe of him.
