The Wanting
don’t sell the farm yet
believe in me
don’t break the branches off the family tree
I’m made of good wood
bend but don’t break
there’s only some much middle sons can take
my mechanics of coping
alcohol
melatonin
ain’t enough to get you out of my life
you can grab you can hold it
but you’re gonna let go when
everything about it just ain’t right
so we’re just
dead fields sown in pain
I’m the last of your name
I can’t do it all
but I wouldn’t do it all the same
hard hearts soft on the past
well the hurt came quick
bitterness came to last
you’re the one thing that I want
and the wanting’s all I’ll have
there are some deeds that can’t be undid
there are some moral slopes that can’t be unslid
did you do right by us
best it could be
you’ve done no harm
but you’ve been no good to me
you only think you’re at home when
you’re out and making atonement
someday you got to make up your own mind
you’re never gonna get free of
the way you left me to need love
I returned the pain you paid us in kind
so we’re just
dead fields sown in pain
I’m the last of your name
I can’t do it all
but I wouldn’t do it all the same
hard hearts soft on the past
well the hurt came quick
bitterness came to last
you’re the one thing that I want
and the wanting’s all I’ll have
upon the mount there was a sermon
and then there was a lesson learned
if I can only touch in third person
is this cause to be concerned
I want to know if the passing’s complete
and if it was a clean divide
is this your body
is this where you’ll sleep
I want to love you
I want to tell you
but I can’t change my mind
so we’re just
dead fields sown in pain
I’m the last of your name
I can’t do it all
but I wouldn’t do it all the same
hard hearts soft on the past
well the hurt came quick
bitterness came to last
I can’t forgive and forget
you took the one thing that i had
now you’re the one thing that i want
and the wanting’s all I’ll have.

“You’re the the one thing that I want... And the wanting’s all I’ll have” I’ve been listening to music for 53 years on this earth and those lyrics are some of the best I’ve ever heard

This whole song is full of amazing lyrics. It took me a couple listens to take it all in.
Killer tune. Not sure how it wasn't a massive hit
This is one of those songs that I remember out of the blue and then play on repeat for a full week out of pure obsession, only to repeat every year or so. IDK what it is about it, man. I guess it has to be the pure, raw emotion in it. It's unforgettable

Damn right! As a father of boys, I go through the same cycle…just maybe every 3 months
Oh, man. I had a hard childhood and this song is...oh, man.

Right? The lyrics are some serious poetry and there’s something about the contrast of those lyrics with the tone of the music that is something you only know if you know.

I did not. But when it comes to my boys, this song hits me as a father. What do I want for them, what should I do? So much meaning and heart…and the way that Logan’s style on the drums reminds me of my oldest (also a drummer) just hits hard
Spent an entire evening listening to this on repeat, building replacement doors in my poolhouse…reflecting on myself and my boys. F-ck I love these guys
Some pain in life comes from the wanting...It also comes from the having.
You guys are the greatest modern rock band. Love everything you do
It's outrageously good. Thank yall
This song hits me just perfect. Think I will listen again right fucking now
This video is criminally underviewed.

This song is so badass.
Addictive song.
Truly one of the best bands ever!
Diggin this song
This is one of those bands where you like a bunch of their songs before realizing they're all the same band.
This song is phenom. Read the lyrics, they are srsly bitter sweet. Sound is best on 10.1s or just crank it in your car!
Love the new album!
I gotta do it.
I'm not sad to say this is so fing amazing!! Well done... Phew... Breathless
I get the Kings of Leon comparison and then I heard another song and it was T-Rex. I dig this band!

Am I mistaken, or is this a bit of a salute to Tom Petty?💙 He's my hero. I love this song and video, thanks you guys. Wish I could see you in Seattle.

They should change their name to Soy bomb.
very tom petty-ish. tribute?
I love this song, but I hate this recording. Every note and all of his vocal intonations are quashed into a compressed din. It sounds worse than some AM radios. If this were a Katy Perry record, maybe that wouldn't matter, but their writing and playing abilities are too good to be ruined this way.

An amazing band, but this music video is mind splitting (so many quick, jarring edits in fast succession). Detracts from the music so, so much... a shame. I would have much rather watched them play on a stage.
Awesome song. My thoughts are: 1. if they were actually singing rather than miming, I feel like they would show more emotion. 2. Some people should NOT grow their hair long, no matter how rock and roll it is.
