In the 1974 World Cup, West Germany faced East Germany in a game that was as political as it was important. Surprisingly, East Germany won thanks to a goal by Jürgen Sparwasser. The goal, however, was much more than that, and Sparwasser's life was far from being a national hero in the following years.
