Real life sucks so it can be handy to escape into fiction and fantasy. This video is a little bit off but I felt like it would be good for the dark and spooky Halloween season. There is more to fantasy literature than Tolkien, and I would strongly recommend researching "Weird Tales" and other pulp magazines with fiction writers and their master works to see how these stories shaped the modern popular culture.

hi Tex! thanks for the reading material suggestions. 2nd Edition AD&D guy here from the early 90s. pulp is good for the brain. those well-worn pages could get pretty immersive. Happy Halloween!
Hey this is random but in one of your videos a while back you talked about an Ernest Hemingway quote..it was something about when first light hits it was like waking up to an ugly woman. Basically it was describing the harsh reality when you’re hunting and all the fantasy’s of the animal you are after are shattered when day breaks. It was a really awesome quote I can’t seem to find the video you said it in so just wondering if you can recall the quote. I’ve been wanting to find it for a while.

I love JRR tolkien's books but I've only read Lord of the Rings. I'd really like to read the silmarillion it's like the Bible for that world

Yeah the Silmarillion is a complex history of Ea , the universe where we find Middle Earth. Can be pretty hard to follow but it’s cool if you want to know the entire history of Tolkiens universe. Like you mentioned , it like reading the Old Testament , so if you enjoy that kind of research then it’s for you.
