With Teddy, Ponder, etc., it was pretty apparent to me immediately that they wouldn’t be “great”. McCarthy is the first QB the Vikings have drafted in 20+ years that actually has franchise potential. I really feel good about him, even if it takes awhile for him to develop

Winner at all levels throughout his career. State and national championships in high school level, national championship in college level. Highly athletic. 6’2.5” and 219 lbs. Ran a 40 yard dash in the 4.5s. Had the fifth best 3 cone drill of any player at the Combine, not just QBs, so his lateral quickness and agility are elite. This shows up on his tape with his ability to slide in the pocket, break contain and extend plays to turn losses into gains. He has the athleticism to translate this to the NFL. Excels under pressure. His yards per attempt (YPA) and completion percentage barely drop. He was one of the most efficient college QBs at 3rd and long. He made plays when it mattered and showed up big in big moments. Being unfazed by pressure is a trait that the best QBs throughout history have. It doesn’t mean he will be HOF, but it does mean his ceiling is uncapped since he possesses this critical trait that is necessary to be the next Montana/Brady/Mahomes. He has a tremendous arm. His arm velocity was tied for second most in Combine history. He can make all the throws and has that arm strength to fit it into tight windows. He excels at intermediate throws in the middle of the field - a staple of the KOC offense. He is very young and turned 21 after the college season ended. So, he is still developing and likely has a lot of future growth potential. I mean, he added almost 20 pounds after the college season and before the Combine and then ran that elite 3 cone and impressive 40 yard dash at the new weight. So he is still maturing. It is likely that his already elite arm strength will even get better. TLDR: winning mentality combined with insane results his entire life. Great athleticism with elite lateral agility and short burst quickness. Elite arm strength and proven strengths in the key areas of KOC’s system. Mental makeup of a truly elite / HOF QB that is situationally aware and won’t check it down and come up small in big moments but will instead attack the defense and give his team every opportunity to win. Best QB in the draft for the Vikings in my opinion and it wasn’t particularly close in the final analysis. This draft couldn’t have turned out any better in my opinion.
