I get crazy thinking about what a Dilla beat in 2017 would sound like. I can't even process where he'd be it's like trying to imagine a color that doesn't exist.

Chris I know right . ironically his beat tapes were so ahead of their time that his people could still hear new stuff today . he was a workaholic

On "Stop," when he makes "It's that real" sound like "Is death real?" Just guts me every time, man. Also this song is the only one that he silence in the track, fittingly so. Probably my favorite beat on there. For now anyway.

I was thinking a Modal Soul review would be good to do in February since he and Dilla shared a birthday and both were influential in hip hop

Agreed. February is Dilla & Nujabes month and nothing would be more appropriate for those who love the production side of Hip-Hop to hear your thoughts on Nujabes

This is an incredible album! It's hard to believe that he did most of it on his death bed. This is an album that you hear something different on damn near EVERY song. You can't say that about 99% of hip hop. We lost a great one. Hands down...The King of Beats. My favorite track...Two Can Win Great job, B!

I have the cassette and t-shirt I wear sometimes. It's one album I could say that I would tell anyone to listen to straight from beginning to end. The album is an emotional roller coaster imo. The samples make you cry, laugh or smile. The transitions are just so good. By the end you want to stand up and applaud because it was a good hour gone by each time.

Welcome 2 Detroit is my favorite J Dilla album. I remember smacking the shit out of some kid passing me by on the street, because the album was so dope to me. It was in a time where I didn't even listen to music that seriously. After hearing that album, I kept pushing replay on the whole album. It actually inspired me to make sample-based beats. After awhile I eventually stopped making beats, but I kept on digging in diverse genres and it made me love music even more.

Loneliest Monk I felt like adding verses would've ruined the atmosphere created imo. The story/mood he created with samples and just sound alone was amazing.

I see where you're coming from but some of the tracks feel kind of empty and not in an atmospheric way. In other words, if half of this album was instrumental and the other had a verse on each track it would've been a bit better.
