Hi just brought this watch with a SW200 in the last AliExpress sale, managed to get for just under £200 . I’m quite impressed and the only improvement would be a sharper definition between the polish and brushing on the twisted lugs, there not bad in fact there quite good but San Martin have made them sharper. When you consider a new SW200 movement would cost £120 minimum and the Mesh would cost at lest £50. The SW200 seems to wind better and mine threads ok. The bezel is a little stiff but not Steinhart stiff.

Nice review! mine is on the way and should be here soon and I'm pretty excited to get it in hand.

Thanks for watching. Without a side by side comparison I can't personally comment on how it matches up. Other commenters have advised the IX&DAO has a slightly larger lug to lug/different shape to the lugs. If you don't mind the 1:1 homage design the IX&DAO quality to cost ratio is high.

I didn't know James Dean Bradfield did a watch review youtube channel. Really enjoyed your presenting style and thoroughness, just subscribed. I just bought mine from Ali Heimdallr store and was planning on ditching the strap but after your detailed review I'm looking forward to tying it on.

I forgot to mention there should be no concern over the slightly different reading you got from the sapphire crystal. A mineral crystal, EVEN one with a sapphire coating is STILL going to read as mineral. The difference you are seeing is probably due to a different formulation of the synthetic sapphire produced by the crystal manufacturer.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't sure if it was a problem with my diamond selector 2 or what was going on I haven't had any sapphire coated mineral crystals to compare so erred on the side of caution.

Good video and new sub here... question, you stated 48mm for the lug to lug with on-screen graphics but didn't actually measure it when you had your calipers out doing the true case dimensions... could you please confirm the L2L for me -- is it 48 or 46.5 (the L2L of the Serica 5303)? Hi Scott is this the same Scott Cutshall who rocked a Smiths Everest for quite a while and used to do great B&W shots of it on wrist? It is 48mm from the tip of lyre lug to lug. The bracelet curves downwards and measures at 49.5 from tip of end of link to link when on wrist. Hope that helps.

My first experience with a PT5000 I've had plenty of Eta's that it's based on over the years. Good to hear it's been reliable long longer term.

Congrats, great review. Does anyone else have the ipose 5303, are the bezels misaligned? From the pictures I was sent by a store, they seem off by a bit. input appreciated.

seems to be a bezel insert. if you are really worried about it, maybe you can ask to get the insert unattached and you can do it yourself. I've got mine on the way, so I'm curious how mine will turn out.

Pretty much spot on under 5x magnification. Maybe very slight misalignment [to the right] But the top hat crystal could well be distorting it.

Seems that replacing the insert or re-installing it will not fix the issue at the moment, the issue is in the manufacturing. Expect a V2 soon according to manufacture. All V1 watches will have an issue. If the bezel is going to bother you, wait for V2.

I dont have an issue with an homage watch of a micro brand. I watch a side by side cmparison and the homage is slightly larger which is kind of what I wanted in the first place.

Unfortunately, I had to sell mine to free up funds. I miss that bracelet unbelievably comfy and the taper on the mesh, superb.

I am waiting for my V2 to arrive. They have sorted a bezel misalignment issue and changed the writing on the dial. I am no great lover of homages, but why pay five times for a watch that isn't technically as good.

One of the negatives of getting a new watch in early from Aliexpress is that they get 2nd and sometimes 3rd gens out within a short period fixing any issues. I liked this one so much I might pick up another one. Sold the first to fund more watches for the channel. Thanks for watching.

Hi, the Ipose is now on V3, which has had some refinement upgrades. The V1 I had was nearly on par with SM quality. Therefore, v3 should be on par now, but I haven't handled a V3. I've always found SMs finishing, although great it leaves me a little cold it's very clinical, I didn't get that feeling with the IX&DAO. Felt more Swiss. Hope that helps.

The thickness changed my mind, I love around 10.5-11.5. The store states 12.6.

Hello my sincere apologies. The watch is 12.4 not 11.4 as I state in the video. I must of had a digital callipers malfunction as I measured it again today and it came out as 12.4. That is from rear of case to top of crystal.

If you think that you are unlucky with your bezel misalignment than think twice. I got like ton of backplay, issue with date wheel beeing sticky and being misaligned in a manor that it shows next date a bit through the cutout. The misaligned bezel is IMHO bad made. That steel part of the bezel has been engraved a minute off. IMHO. I got mine from a Watchdives for 240. I guess the bezel problems I could close my eye for that price but the movement is a another thing. The case and bracelet really good but costs saving are made inside to. You get plastic ring for movement.

I also own a 5303-3 and I got the mash up 5312 Tuxedo cali dial with the case. I think some of the places have renamed it 5305 lol. I agree with your review points here. The quality is way better than expected for the price. The finishing is up there for a $600 USD watch in my opinion. Comparatively, to my 5303-3, they are similar but not all 1:1. The lug to lug is shorter and the lugs on the 5303 slim down. The bezel is not as smooth on the IPOSE and the bracelet is almost as well done as the Serica. There's minor differences, but the finishing is nice on both and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I didn't have a Serica in hand.

I was hovering over this one, but pulled the trigger after seeing the quality here. Went for the SW200. I'm no expert in these movements by any stretch, but I've read the PT5000 does not like being hand wound at all. I have it in another watch and I give it a little Seiko shuffle rather than handwinding. Nice review btw

The PT5000 can have some crown and winding issues, but this could be dependent on who cuts and installs the stem, or could be just luck of the draw. I think their QC/tolerances on the parts of the keyless works is not great so you get some duds that don't wind or set well. I have 3 with no big issues, though.

some of the SW200 movements do have winding issues as well.

I don’t love how derivative this watch is to the Serica… BUT… I really love the Serica design and style, to the point where it was a “grail” …ish watch. (If even such a thing even exists) BUT… I want a Serica with a jumbo date at the 12 o’clock position, and instead they dropped a GMT and started having movement problems… I’m too poor to risk the money that Serica is asking even if the design is almost perfect… BUT… I do have $200, this one is a real head scratcher…………😅

Thx forthe review. Till now I was not disturbed by hommage watches of big brands and models that have been here for years. Here we have a copy (not an hommage)of a small french brand which has an original design of less than 6 monthes. I feel bad for them, as it sounds they have been punished/scammed by their supplier, at least it's my feeling.

Not sure how they can obtain a ETA 2824 when swatch stopped making them.

For a little while, quite a few Ali sellers were offering ETA movements as an option it's now changed to the Sellita and PT5000. I can only assume they got hold of a batch of ETA's.

Regarding the thickness, the thickness may differ by a mm, but it's a mm in the right direction.

The seller you linked to - UTC Watches Store - was not reliable for me. Ordered Jan 23, after a couple of weeks I received a tracking number - but tracking number indicated item had not shipped. Then, yesterday, seller canceled the order with no contact or reason given. Now I must wait up to 20 days for a refund. I would not recommend this seller. P. S. I enjoy your reviews.

After UTC experience, tried to order from Heimdallr Watch store... Beware of Heimdallr Watch store: I ordered March 3. After waiting a couple of weeks, they said the model was not available. Now, they are seemingly refusing to refund my money.

I see this as a reimagined Omega 300 professional.

Seems like "somebody" caught feelings about this offering. I just checked AliExpress and in Germany the search function cannot find this watch. Even the 2 shops that sell it got nuked from orbit. In Germany their product pages just come up empty. My guess is that someone here threatened legal action against these shops.

At 7:14 in you mention that the thickness is 11.3 mm as opposed to the 11.2 mm reported on the website, and you claim it's a full mm difference ... It's actually only a 0.1 mm difference, not 1.0 mm Math is sometimes problematic 😁

Hi at the time of video creation the Ali store was advertising as 12.2 mm.

The original Serica (with zero branding), makes it a perfect watch to copy/homage (rightly or wrongly), what I don't understand is how these guys can mess up the sterile design by including the words 'Friends of Ipose' at the bottom of the dial - what on earth were they thinking?

Ugh, kicking myself that would have been a great segue.

It's one thing for the Chinese factory brands to homage large luxury brands but we shouldn't support the copying of small microbrands. These factory brands aren't the plucky upstarts taking it to the big guys in this instance. They have economies of scale far in excess of the microbrand in question. And no the Serica doesn't 'heavily homage' Omega in anyway like the 'Serca 'IPOSE' homages (that produce a near one-for-one copy of the Serica 5303. One echoes elements and stylistic cues yet has a distinctive and coherent visual language of its own - the other is a deliberate an blatant copy.

I would usually agree. I feel slightly different about this one as it makes me wonder about the mark up by the microbrand, the brand in question freely admit on their website they have their cases and parts made outside of Switzerland so my question is if a Chinese company can make the watch using a ETA and still sell it for a profit at more than half the cost of the micro using Chinese made parts should we paying as much as their asking? As I allude to in the video I don't really feel it's enough of an individual design to warrant R&D cost I would usually associate with a micro as the design is more of an Omega's greatest hits.

@@thewristwatchnewschannel Of course they can offer this at a lower price point. They have absolutely zero R&D as well as design cost on this especially if they just nicked the CAD-files from the original production as it seems. Talk to some microbrand owners and you will see that some of these watches take a year or two to come to fruition from designing to prototyping etc. There is a lot of work and monetary investment and risk involved. All things Ipose did not have to put up. Plus of course the movement they use in the cheapest version is significantly cheaper than the Soprod. So of course they can offer it cheaper which does not mean the price of the Serica is not justified. And saying the Serica is just Omega's greatest hits is in my honest opinion completely off the mark. This is a very unique design even if it uses some cues from the past. Just look at the lug integration of the mesh bracelet. All that took some significant design work and prototyping etc. And even if you wanna reduce it to it being a mash-up of things that were there before (then I got to ask which watch is not?) it takes a lot of work to bring these together coherently and tastefully and create something new. These Serica watches did not get that much attention when they were released because they were a simple mash-up or lookalike but because they had a very unique and extremely well thought out design language of their own and that is also the reason why the homage gets such attention and hype now. Wouldn't happen if this was just another sub lookalike. Having said that, this is for me is just one step too far and unlike homaging a Rolex or PP for people that will never be able to afford the real thing anyway this actually hurts the original brand and therefore the watch industry and its future as a whole.

Fair enough. I'm not in a position to state one way or the other. That's why I pose more of a question rather than a statement regarding to the costs involved. My opinion on the design being more omega is exactly that my opinion. If I could currently afford the price point the microbrand are offering their watches at then perhaps I would have been reviewing them not the homage. If the brand In question has had their cad files nicked then of course that is not something I condone.

I got to question the chops of a 'reviewer' who draws an equivalence between what Serica has done re drawing inspiration from Omega and the clone manufacturer who has intentionally set out to copy down to virtually every detail, the 5303.

Unfortunately the movement in the original watch is plagued with problems. But that is not the worst of it , as the brand in question is trying to convince customers that the issues with the movement is a feature of the watch. That is just plain dishonest and bad customer service.

I bet it’s from the same factory.

Most probably not. The same has been said about "fakes" (basically these are fakes apart from the brand name) for ages. Never saw any proof. The same has been said about Unimatic and the San Martin fake of the UC2. I have both (always regretted buying the San Martin) so I can compare. The cases are not the same, not even close. For the Serica and "ipose" you can even see on the pics that the font used for the bezel is not the same. They look similar but I guess when you actually compare them side to side you will see a lot more differences.

@@MrSeedi76 you can’t say either way as well as you too have no proof. Lots of these “swiss” watch parts are from china i know. I’ve worked in the watch parts industry. The reason why i say it is possible it’s the same factory are the initial costs associated with milling, design templates, parts, etc. making little changes is easy but starting from scratch is very costly and not worth $259 a watch.

It’s tough to see a microbrand getting the shank 😢

Serica deserves all the shank they can get for using the terrible Soprod movement and calling technical faults a „feature“.

Much nicer looking watch than the captain cook real summer watch and very different to run of the mill Rolex Tudor homages. I actually think the fact your watches are homaged shows you have arrived in the watch world. Just as Rolex homage buyers will very rarely buy real Rolexes . What I find is the best AliExpress watches are better than the TISSOT, HAMILTON, and Seiko sub £1000 watches.

@@thewristwatchnewschannel As I already said elsewhere in these comments: The Serica may be a lot of things but definitely not just an Omega greatest hits compilation, in fact it is one of the more interesting design efforts we have seen in the last decade which is also the reason why people in the watch world were so hyped about this piece. And even if the company is overcharging (you are conveniently forgetting development cost etc. here though) or running high margins does that give Ipose the right to do a 1:1 copy on the back of someone else's labour? All this talk sounds like everybody is just trying to basically justify buying something that is basically a replica not an homage. As the original does not have a name on the dial either, where is the difference to replica watches discussed on r/reptime etc.? That tiny Ipose print below the 6? Come on...

In no way is it a "homage". It is a blatant copy, while being more reliable, at a quarter the price.

Anyone that purchases this watch should feel embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. This is stealing someone's design and you are supporting this practice. Purchase the real thing (sercia) not this knock off. I would never support China.

I agree. He keeps saying "homage" when this is clearly a direct rip off of the Serica 5303. He should be honest in the review and say this is a Chinese copy of the French microbrand. They didn't even change the text on the dial or the French "heures" on the bezel. This is in no way an homage or even references any of Omega's designs. It's sad when people promote these companies that steal the IP of others that have spent a lot of time and money to design and sell their products.

Ha, That's the question isn't it. I do and I don't. I've been slated a bit in other comments of my opinion that the brand have copied Omega themselves and I'll stick to that personally I think there's too much omega for them to really call it their own. Is the IX&DAO a almost 1:1 yes I'd say it is. But Is it a good value proposition again yes it is. So it depends on your personal feelings towards homages. I think it would have sat better with people if IX&DAO had put their logo on the dial. Without it the watch treads the homage line that bit closer. I know it's not your bag and I respect your opinion if I was in a better financial position I probably would have been reviewing the original.

@thewatchnewschannel I respect that. I guess I didn't really see it from that point of view of someone able to purchase a sercia. I just hate a 1:1 copy because it just lacks original design. But I have a feeling Sercia might not come out of this because of the movement that the fake is better.

Ive just watched another watch review about the watch and in particular he mentions the pt5000 youll find according to him the pt5000 has been cloned and cloned movements havent been oiled correctly this will cause issues in the future! Theres already a V2 version out that addresses the alignment issues

I’ve owned 3 PT5000 and as long as you don’t wind them poor than ten turns to start up then your fine. Your never service a PT5000 as the cost will exceed the cost of a new watch.

I believe that Serica dont really have a strong brand name and it makes this watch look like a no brainer
