Ivon Hitchens is severely underrated. You never hear anything of him. he’s phenomenal.

I just love the economy of those brush strokes to evoke the British landscape. Hitchens mastered paint, like few others...

I am 80yrs, and was an Art Student in Portsmouth when I was 19yrs. I spoke to him during his Tate Gallery exhibition. He wrote to me after this day. His kind gentle manner influenced me and my work. I became an art teacher, then commercial artist painting on silk worldwide. I was so very sad to learn of his death. xx

As a raw art student in Nottingham, mid 70’s, I went to a his one man exhibition at the castle. I found his work entrancing. Seeing many similar pieces altogether was so much better than viewing the odd one here and there.

I found Ivon Hitchens thanks to an artist and tutor I know. He is a favourite artist of hers, I must admit he has become a favourite artist of mine too!! I love the texture and colours found in his artwork, I am glad to have found this documentary I've been able to learn a little more about this wonderful artist!!

Peter H Patterson. I have just learnt a lot about Ivan Hitchens that I did not know. We had one of his paintings in the Basildon Arts Trust and I loved it. We no longer own it and I miss it.

Need subtitles for the guy speaking with plums in his mouth. Actually the woodsman portrayed almost as an uneducated savage in this doc had better anecdotes than the posh bloke (as far as I could make out, anyway) and his photography was brilliant. Speaking of plums in mouths, there was a distinct Fast Show's Ted and Ralph vibe to this doc. I enjoyed it tremendously and not only for that reason.

Back in the early 80s my grandma in Midhurst said she knew someone who had some work by Hitchens. I wonder if it was Ted.
