What I want to know is how important is my resume? My GPA is fine (3.7) and I have two undergrads, but I'm a 42- year old secretary, and always have been some kind of receptionist or admin assistant. Do you admit smart people with dumb jobs? I'm so sick of being in this type of role. Can I just buy my way up via an MBA?

You can’t just “buy” an mba, at least not from a competitive institution. You can absolutely have “dumb” job experience and be considered by these entities as long your test scores reflect that (which you say you can) and more importantly you explain and articulate your personal story in your application (this is the MAIN thing) why do want this mba? Are your goals post mba realistic? Etc etc are all questions that will need to be addressed in your essays, if you paint a clear enough picture that shows a proper and realistic road map post MBA plus have the required scores you’d very much be considered. The main thing I think working against you is your age. MBA’s are usually for people in their late 20s with early 30s usually being the cut off point (in North America at least) i think a lot of these I schools would recommend that you look into an executive MBA as that does usually favour older candidates.
