Ok so i want to address somethings In the video here as it seems many of you have a quarrel with the fact that we didn't stop and eat at restaurants. I appreciate the many of you that have come on to the video to show your interest by the way its really cool to see so many of you enjoyed the video. but...... for those of you who think we HAD to stop and eat at every BBQ house in Texas, taste every piece of Cajun Shrimp, and authentic Mexican Tacos in Arizona. YES that all sounds delicious and for me personally food is a HUGE part of travel. If you would just take 3 seconds to look over my channel you would realize that. This trip was not intended for that. A lot of planning went into this road trip because we wanted to do something really unique this year [we go on a trip every year (last year we went to Puerto Rico)]. Point #1 We all keep Kosher and so finding authentic foods around the country that follow Kosher guidelines for cheap or almost non existent therefore we decided it would make more sense to cook our own food. Point#2 Many of you think we only ate eggs for 11 days we did not. Granted its my fault for not showing our variety of foods during the video but i thought showing that gas canister would be enough and let you use your imagination. But we cooked things like Rice, Eggs, Veggie Burgers, Oatmeal, and beans. We actually had a pretty nice diet the entire time and that was one of the least problematic aspects of the trip for us all. Point#3 No I didn't take the two white guys hostage. Point#4 Many of you also believe we did not enjoy this trip. I documented the entire trip, in addition to this video there is a whole playlist of videos showing how much fun we had. Yes it was fast and we had to spend little increments of time in each location but we took a lot of time to plan and agree on this route and we decided that these were the things we wanted to see and experience individually. You can skim through the videos here: goo.gl/Eg3fRV *side not the Mexico one is my favorite. Final Point(not really a point) I am so incredibly sorry for using the word omelette when referring to scrambled eggs. I could not fathom for a moment that my slip up would bother so many of you. From the bottom of my heart I apologize for using that terrible unfitting totally falsified description of the food we were eating. It wont happen again and that's a promise. Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you are looking for the TLDR version: we had a terrible time everything you believe from watching 30 seconds of this video is true. Proceed to leave a rude comment. 😉

Eating out of grocery stores is another good way to save on food. I do it all the time when on the road. Not every meal, or any meal really while traveling, has to be cooked by you. And I focus on healthy stuff that's on sale.

I didnt read the replies because I didnt need to. My wife and I have done the same type of travel. We've been coast to coast on two week trips annually for about 1500. That included a hotel stay every thrid day for regular bedding and hot showers / breakfast. This included access and parking fees for all of the national and state parks we saw. We covers 27 states mostly by interstate travel. It was well worth it and we're about to do it again. Thank you for sharing.

I love road trips!! We have a small RV (24ft) and we've done a ton of road trips with our kids. Our RV is small but the advantage is that we can easily take it anywhere. It's easy to park in small towns and no issue to pull into a grocery store parking lot. It has a generator that allows us to cook meals while driving (so great!). Planned right, our main expense was also for gas. The nice thing about a small RV with a generator is that you can pull off anywhere and park in public spaces overnight...saving tons of money. We were a family of 6 travelling, sleeping in the RV and we treated restaurants as a treat that we had only once or twice during a week of travel. We could easily have never stopped at restaurants. It's been a super cheap way to travel for a family our size...and WAY more comfortable than squeezing into a car. I feel for you guys! LOL!

Only thing with the food thing is the small gems of non chain establishments to experience the local culture. But it’s super smart to picnic along the route too. Better to travel through weekdays and time your breaks around rush hours.

  • @kagobonestalker1487

No, this didn't cost $350. Buying food to take, buying things to cook food on, owning a car to travel in (maintenance and insurance). Maybe it cost $350 for gas, but the actual cost of the trip, I would guess is way more.

With that being said I plan on doing my own Solo cross country road trip from Charlotte, NC to California and back for my 30th birthday. I plan on getting a hatchback vehicle so I can save lots of money on hotels. Hit up the fitness connections across the country for showers and workouts. I hope that gym exists in california. I’ll buy myself a Nikon camera, take pics. I Definetly plan on doing some sight seeing.

This was very informative. Glad you guys had a great time, well, at least 2 of you did. This is my top bucket list and Im really anxious to get it done, however, beng that my wife and I are in our very early 60's Im afraid there are a few things we can't get around. One of them is the accommodations. If I was by myself, yes, but no way she sleeps in a vehicle. An RV maby, if that winds up being the case, we'll see. But when you guys were riding did you see any reasonably priced motels? The food parts going to be easy. We can pack 1/2 of walmart and some, with no issues. We probably wont go the route you guys took since we've pretty much seen all the states in the belly portion of this country, but maby we may check out the Grand Canyon. And last but not least, when you get out of school and if you have a decent amount of time, have you considered the 48 states challenge?" Again! Great info, great post!

Im trying to figure out how wed save. I too like to try new and local places but if i ordered to go and say took it to a local park....i dont think it would be any cgeaper than going to the grocery for me personally. And it would be harder to find food that would keep and could easily be cooked on the road as I'm picky. But i really need help making my budget trips even more budget friendly

I would love it if someone could make a video of themselves only traveling on public transit from New York to San Diego. You could only ride any form of public transit such as bus, light rail, subway, commuter rail, or ferry if it is part of the public transit and you are paying the fare to the same company or a company that is contracted with the public transit company. You are not allowed to use Uber Lyft or cabs etc. AmTrak is out of the question for any type of shuttle such as St. George Shuttle or Greyhound. You have to only use public transit that is wheelchair accessible. The routes can only be fixed routes, not paratransit. I want to see how many different public transit systems you would have to use and how many you would have to ride and transfer from and to? For example, you ride on public transit company {INK and you ride a few routes, and at one point you reach the EOL End Of the Line where you cannot go any farther. You meet up at a point where you would get off that service and get on the Blue public transit which is a different service and ride through that until you make it all of the way to your destination. You want to try to take the fastest routes as you can. I wonder if you would be willing to take on that challenge? I forgot to mention you cannot fly. You can only take vehicles that you can only board where a person is in a wheelchair and you have to be in your chair in the securement area. If the vehicle would require you to get out of your chair and your chair be stored somewhere else that is a no-go. No getting rides from other people unless it is from a transit company's supervisor in their vehicle and it would have to be wheelchair accessible. If none of the supervisor's vehicles are wheelchair accessible it would be against their policy to use any of their other wheelchair vehicles to transport you if you were in a wheelchair for any special reason out of your control.

So was this a round trip? Or is that the cost of getting there? And then you just get back for free somehow?

I almost took cereal with me on my road trip last week but decided not to. Think I should have. I see this video is 5 years old so I'm not sure if upside was around back then. I used upside on almost every gas station I stop at. Think there was only a couple I didn't use it. Sometimes I'll go to a gas station look up my upside app to see if that gas station showed up. One of them showed a gas station over 20 miles away so I figured i would just use the gas station i was at and not try to search for the other gas station.
