definitely love the song. the emotion transfer that it gives is really strong like you said even without knowing the lyrics it made me melancholy when I first listened and then with the lyrics the message is even stronger especially thinking about all the things IU has been through in these last few years.I think her and suga together on this was the perfect pairing. his style of production and lyricism really matches that vibe yet it still sounds like a song that's true to IU

Actually it's a sad song for IU friends who die last yr 😔

There are some theories, there's nothing official yet, where this song is about IU friends, Sulli and Jonghyun (both passed away). The dragon could be Jonghyun (he really like that kind of things) and Sulli the girl in the animation, so when she goes in the airplane, she looks at them through the window and you can see that she looks really sad. Also you can consider that in the lyrics when they're talking about "forever we young" could be a reference about she remembering them while being young staying like that in her memories. I really liked the song, I'm a big fan of IU and her music, to me she is really special and went through so much. And in the other hand I admire yoongi to. They are great artist and this song is pure art. (Sorry if there's some grammar mistakes)

i totally believe this theory. the girl in the white dress doesn't have a mole on her cheek like iu and the girl in the plane do. soooo if the animators could add that in for the girl in the plane and the white dress girl was supposed to be iu, too, why didn't they add a mole on that girl's cheek?

Okay so you were confused about the sandcastle lyric. A sandcastle is fragile. IU and Yoongi holds on to these fragile memories that they know is not eternity. Eventually, they’ll forget these things, so their idea of an eternity is the place they can meet together (the island Yoongi referenced aka the afterlife). Her fans have said it is indeed about the passing of two of her friends as well as her theme of growing up (which is why she was saying forever we young as her friends will remain as young as she remembered bc they passed away whilst she herself is coming to terms with growing up). The sandcastle is just an allusion to something you can build (in this case memories) but is also something that is just as fragile.

In the MV, maybe she expected she'll be dreaming of this person again and didnt want to forget the dream. So in the beginning she made the machine save/record all that happens in her dream.

I think your literally the first reactor that got the point of this video i watched many of them today but you really went into detail and i absolutely love that THANK YOU I really appreciate reactors like you. Yes currently IU and the whole world of Korea/Kpop lost 3 beautiful artist but two of those were feature in IU MV Shinee Jonghyun and Sulli who was a former member of F(X) he was the dragon and Sulli was the girl in white :)

The contradiction between the lyrics being so sad and the melody being quite happy is really interesting and quite nice. Really impressive how quickly you got that btw. A lot of people seem to connect it to the idols who recently passed away who were IU's close friend, especially the "forever young" part. Some also thinks that's why the song is quite short, mirroring the "short but beautiful" image of people who die young. Nothing official yet so this is just theories but think it fits personally. I also feel like IU being such a good actress helps getting the message across, like the melody etc try to tell us everything is happy but just by visuals she completely flips it. Obviously the lyrics are really sad as well but to even being able to convey that to internationals is really impressive.

To me this song has layers of meaning, it's an acceptance to her past, to her sorrows, to her younger self and reminiscing all the beautiful memories. To me, the theory really matches with the lyrics and the visuals of this song. You can see she has a pet reptile and that represents Jonghyun so when she's on the plane and sees that on the window, she gets very worried which leads to her waking up from her dream and finding it gone. Then it transitions to character who is Sulli because it really resembles her, she's seen going through an "endless forest" and finally she jumps and frees herself but ends up falling on the reptile who turns into a dragon which could mean that the reptile has finally become himself and free. IU in reality sheds a tear when she sees two of her friends have reunited in afterlife and then Sulli's character also looks at animated IU in the plane whose eyes are filled with tears. Then she wakes up and realizes that she's back to the "real" world, for a second she smiles and feels reassured that her friends are happy but then she gets somber again because she can only relive past memories and they're still gone. I love this song's overall message, and it could relate with a lot of things. Be it with friends, family, or even our special memories, we can always keep them in our heart to stay forever young, it won't ever go away.

Here's some help with the Korean you questioned :) 11:52 "I'll never break if I nightmare like this" - this is a tricky one for me to translate. Literally, it says, "이런 악몽이라면 영영 깨지 않을게" and from what I can tell that means something like, "If this is a nightmare, I'll never wake up (from it)" ? I'm not exactly sure. But I think she's saying that if this life and these memories are a nightmare, she'd still choose to be there in that nightmare rather than waking up from it? Because if this nightmare is all she has, then she wants it. 12:42 "Eternity means sand castle" -- "영원이란 말은 모래성" literally means "The word 'eternity'/'forever' is a sand castle" so, he's saying that the word 'eternity' or 'forever' is a temporary comfort, something that is easily shaken and torn apart, like a sandcastle. As for my interpretation... I don't know. I don't know IU and her work well enough to really comment. But what I did see is that throughout the whole song, we could see the lizard. But it was only once it went missing from its aquarium that it grew wings. We see that instead of IU chasing the lizard, the girl in white jumps from the cliff and is caught by this lizard--I don't think the girl in white is IU, because then it pans to a scene of animated IU looking fondly out the window at the girl in white riding on the back of a dragon. There's definitely a story there.

Adding on, someone else theorized that the "so are you happy now" phrase at the end of the song refers to the people who left hate comments to both individuals--if they're happy with what they've done. It's so incredibly heartbreaking.

"Eight" was written and composed by IU and its producer Suga (Rap part) who also featured on the track. The song's title refers to the age "twenty-eight" of both singers. "Eight" follows IU's previous singles "Twenty-three" and "Palette" which together comprise her "Age" series

This song is just so beautiful, when you actually understand the lyrics and see the mv it's just... Also IU's voice is so warm and then suga's voice is sooo nostalgic, ugh I love this!!

When you first listen to the song, without the music video and without the lyrics, it seem so happy, but when you look at the music video and look at the lyrics, it seems so sad and it makes you change the way you feel about the song, because you know what the artist is actually saying and by looking at the music video, you can tell the song has a deeper meaning, than what others might think.

Tbh This is the best reaction I have seen for this song. You didn't know the story, yet you felt it!!!!! all of the others talked about her beauty, which genuinely, she is so so gorgeous, but the meaning is so so deep makes you want to cry. I was sooo surpriseddd with how much i loved this song. It’s so catchyyy and i only wished it was longer:( Suga’s verse was as great at the production.

I relate to this songs as lost friendship. Eight, I think, is part of IU 'Age' theme. Both her & Suga at 28 had beautiful friendship before but lost them through time. 'Eternity is like sand castle' to me reflects when we are deep in our friendship we tend to think that it will be forever. All those promises that we never lose touch, we won't change, we always be there for you ... but actually it was just a sand castle that get swept by the sea. IU singing about losing those friendship but at the same time remembering the beautiful memories as if time had not touch it. 'Dancing under the orange sun without shadows'; to me, it means time doesn't move. Because if it has shadow, it means the sun moved as the day closes. 'Forever we young' is reminiscing those memories. Happy memories untouch by sadness and unsaid farewell.

It’s bittersweet

Piggybacking off of the theory that this song is about IU's friends who passed away due to suicide (Hara, Sulli, Jonghyun), this song might mirror those who are going through mental health issues. The song sounds uplifting and cheery at first, but once you interpret and understand the lyrics, the overall meaning is so much sadder. Those who may be struggling with mental health issues might put up a front and pretend they are happy, but if you get inside their thoughts, you realize that they are going through hardships we might not have ever imagined.

I like how he catches on so well with the story of the song!!!!
