And one of the best World Cups as well. I was 16, and I first started watching the world Cup since 1990. I would rank them in this order = 1) Russia 2018 2) Qatar 2022 3) France 1998 4) Brazil 2014 5) South Africa 2010 6) Italy 1990 7) USA 1994 8) South Korea / Japan 2002 9) Germany 2006

For me, the best World Cup theme. Loved the energy in it. And brings back memories

Life was much simpler back then

Majestic. This and the BBC into from France 98 are the best two intros to a world cup. So nostalgic. So many memories as an 11 year old. Still remember it to this day

For anyone interested the theme is a version of Randez Vous 4 by Jean Michel Jarre.

‘98 was my second favourite World Cup I’ve seen after 1990.

Brazil vs Scotland was the opening match of the '98 World Cup.

Controversial but I preferred this to the BBC theme this World Cup. Apparently I am in the minority but who cares!

They’ll have to begin creating something similar for USA/ Mexico/Canada 26

...ITV's match themes were always the kind of badge thumping, lifting your spirits before the match anthems the BBC very rarely delivered. Using Jellice Ball from CATS and Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma never did it for me like the BBC's choice of presenters and experts, particularly of recent years!

In a way better than the Mexican World Cup opening

I agree, I hadn't remembered it and I can see why! Awful yet mercifully forgettable bland dance tune, preceded by an advert that does nothing to get one into the mood.

The fact the Pavane intro is so memorable, speaks volumes. The tune is so beautiful and haunting, whereas this one screams Carling and water jets

ITV had the shittest intros

BBC was much better...

I don't remember that at all. Which is unsurprising as it was dog shit - nice work memory.
