Best year of my childhood. Mexico 86, Liverpool winning the double (including FA Cup vs Everton). Playing on the field opposite my nans until I collapsed of exhaustion every night all summer. Good times.

86 was "my" World Cup. This song still gives me goosebumps.

There is a magic to this tune. A real magic. If you remember it, listening to it again brings back some wonderful memories. A long summer that never seemed to end. Some incredible players. Seems like a world away now.

Makes me quite emotional when I hear this. Brings back memories of watching it with my dear Dad

Every time i listen to this tune the Memories of a long Summer in 1986 come flooding back when i was 13 yrs old Playing football until 11pm as it was still light coming home and watching the matches sadly as a Scotsman it was the same old heartache in a World Cup so near yet so far LOL but lovely to hear this tune to bring back the memories

Id be out the back kicking a football about, was a great summer in fife and everybody had their windows open.......I'd hear the theme tune through the open windows and run inside. as you say, brings back great memories.

Them were the days swapping panini Stickers for Mexico 86 in the school playgrounds and getting excited seeing favourite hero's pop out of packets or shinies as we called them foil badges of countries. Sat in front of tv with home made fish and chips and a glass of Robinsons orange juice in the long summer watching these amazing matches and Maradonas skills and his controversial hand ball ⚽ which upset me 😔 anyhow were great simple times! Oh the memories, truly a great world cup, i was a 14 year old lad playing football 16 hours a day that summer, and this world cup theme was my soundtrack . There was something special in the Air that year.

A great tune and an even better World Cup. Maradona was magnificent despite THAT goal.

This just gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it..brings back Mexico 86 in a flash and I remember taping this intro on my tape recorder when I was a kid and playing it over n over.. I was 12 in 86 and absolutely loved this theme tune. If the World Cup ever gets back to Mexico in my lifetime, I just hope ITV has the sense to bring back this fantastic theme tune. I'll take a revamp/update even...anything.

One of the most dramatic finals ever in WC-History. Argentina 2-0 in front, then the late equalizing goals by Rummenigge and Völler. The german team had all opportunities to do it in a possible extratime, because they were physically stronger and had the momentum on its side. But in the last regular minutes they take too much risk and were punished by Burruchagas victory goal. In Italy 1990, against Argentina again, Germany did it.

I was 7 at the time of Mexico World cup. Superb. Oh the memories.

Had this on 7” until someone dropped a box on it. Fond memories of a great hot summer growing up as an 11yr old in London. Thank you for the upload

I was 12 and playing football 24/7, i hadn't a care in the world plus the sun seemed to always be shining. I got to watch one of the greatest ever footballers single handedly win the world cup that year too. I'm now 45 and wish I could go back and do it all again

I was only 4 when this World Cup screened, but this summer I watched all the games via a website and this intro is the best. And just in the last week I managed to purchase a complete Panini sticker book and got an unopened sticker packet on its way :)

I was 16....greatest time to be alive...just full of joy and wonder...sun shining, goals galore, Maradona...smiley Brazilian faces....this theme encapsulates everything about that World Cup and life back then....brings a tear to my eye...

​@@chrisfallon9678Pele was overrated, stood out because the players at the time were average on a good day. By 1986 the game and players moved on significantly. If Pele was born today he probably wouldn't even make it into the Premier League.

This is easily the best World Cup theme, there's no doubt about it.

Back when football was special and the players were truly giants. Unlike now where the stars just chasing the pay cheques.

An old mate of mine was right. It gets proven to me time and again like here. Nearly everyone’s first clear memory watching football is from when being 7 years old ! Worked on me - 1970 FA Cup Charlie George winner in extra time.

I was just 6 when this took place but it immediately takes me back, vividly. When football was about the competition before money ruined it. Hot summers and Adidas Tango's! Goosebumps.

The best ITV World Cup theme ever. The first ten seconds of this theme incorpated the new ITV Sport Logo A silver half circle on a White Cloud blue sky background. This was launched by ITV in 1985,fiollwing the axing of ITV"s World of Sport Programme. The logo lasted untill 1990. Disabled UK viewer. GOD BLESS!

52 bellends of course, this is a truely legendary theme in sports history from the greatest event of all time. Olympics can have all the events it wants, it doesn't even come close. From the tournament, to Maradona to the Panini album and the mascot Pique, possibly the greatest world cup ever.

I was 15 at the time this song is so good I remember England getting knocked out to Argentina Diego Maradona 2-1 in the quarter finals. I love most of the World cup songs on BBC/ITV from 1978 onwards brings so many memories back for me.

This tournament was when I fell in love with football at the age of 8.. my uncle Jimmy screaming at the tele watching Maradona RIP anyone and everyone to shreds

I still remembered the World cup in 1986. It was a superb World cup.

+Phil Durrant I was about 9 then - remember collecting Pannini Football Stickers when they were 12p a packet circa 86 and this was probably one of the best World Cup's ever in my lifetime along with Italy 90 and Usa 94.

This always seems to cheer me up whenever I hear it, it has actually bought a tear to my eye this morning, we need another South American World Cup!!!!!!!!,

1986 Best World Cup Ever. Playing in the park from morning till sunset thinking I was Zico. Trying those Brazilian Free Kicks from 30 Yards and the best was the Panini World Cup sticker Album and spending all the pocket money not on sweets but on the sticker packs.
