Ithaca trigger re-assembly

Ғылым және технология

Had an Ithaca to clean up and re-blue so I turned on the camera for the re-assembly of the trigger group. It is rough because it was a last minute video Idea. Leave any questions in the comments.

ONLY ONE THING I WOULD ADD, IS THAT WHEN TRIGGER HAMMER IS PINNED AND IT'S REAR TANG IS MATED INTO PLUNGER, BEFORE PLUNGER SPRING IS STAKED WITH PIN, YOU MUST CENTER IT AND MAKE SURE IT STAYS PUT, IN THE DEPRESSED AREA ON THE PLUNGER. MY HAMMER REAR TANG MOVED AND WAS PRESSED HARD AGAINST BOTTOM EDGE OF PLUNGER, AND RATHER THAN DAMAGE OR BEND OTHER PARTS NEARBY, I HAD TO BACK UP SEVERAL STEPS AND RE-DO. EXCELLENT VIDEO, NOT AS MUCH INFO OUT THERE FOR MODEL 37 ITHACA, AS THERE IS FOR MOSSBERG 500 AND REMINGTON 870.

This is going to help me out quite a bit. I just picked up a 37 and it won't stay locked up. I found that the slide release has no tension against it. So either that little spring that puts pressure against it has either broken or fallen out. Now I know what to look for as I have not had it apart yet. Wanted to see how daunting of a task it would be. Looks like I could slip a replacement spring in there without taking the whole assembly apart.

I stumbled across your channel while refurbishing an Ithaca Model 37. Great video on the trigger assembly. Do you have one on the disassembly -or know where I can find one? Thanks

I think I might. There are alot of the disassembly videos out there for those shotguns so they should be easy to find.

Hey, love your channel! just subd. I have a question regarding the tellermines, I've read that in extreme cases the tellermine was thrown to the enemy tank, how would it detonate? hoping the tank thread steps on it? or via a pull fuze?

  • @Stray03

There was training to throw tellermines fitted with time delay fuzes (I assume fitted to the anti handling device holes). I think there is a german ww2 training video you can find on youtube showing it. Thanks for the sub.

Great video, thanks! I have a question about that irritating little wire spring on the slide lock release: what is its purpose? It is installed on one machined piece of metal and doesn't ever seem to be under load during your function tests. What is it supposed to do, and can the gun function safely without it?

It is what unlocks the pump after the trigger is pulled. when the hammer is released it automatically releases the lock, you can see it working in my "how the ithaca slamfires" video

Is there a left hand version of the 37? My safety plunger pin retainer is on the opposite side unlike yours. The safety works backwards, right to fire, left for safe. Also..there is no pin hole on the right side to change it. It's kinda dumb in my opinion. Is there a modification that can be done?

First of all, great video. What would cause the hammer to stay down all the way and not come up into the position where the trigger would engage to release the hammer?? I am currently having an issue with mine not moving up into the correct firing position.

  • @Stray03

If you haven't done it yet give the trigger set a good cleaning by dunking it in something like varsol. Then lightly oil it. The only thing that holds it down lower than the trigger engagement point is the safety sear. basically the sear that allows "slamfiring" catches it and isnt letting it go. Does your shotgun lock in the closed position? Does the pump release move?

@@Stray03 yes. I can send you a video of me doing so if you like. I can basically move hammer all the down as the carrier would during cycling. It sticks in the down position, rendering the trigger unable to be pulled. I then have to help the hammer to the ready position, in which the trigger can then be pulled to interact with the hammer allowing it to fire.

Do you know if the safety can be put in backwards to make it left handed? I have an old 37 with a left handed safety and wondered if I can just take it apart and flip it around or if I’ll need another safety. Thanks

No, it cannot. You have to buy the pin that was made for the left-handed shooter. I has the same requirement and that was the solution. Even if it is possible to use the same pin, the red label, on the pin, would mean that you are in safe mode.
