Great gun! I think the Model 37 has to be in the top four pump action shotguns of all time. Good job on that one, if you had one with a riot length barrel I'd like to see a review on that as well. A riot barreled Winchester Model 12 is the only shotgun left that I have on my "must get" list, but there are a lot of other great ones out there. I just picked up my first Ruger ever last week, a P 85 with blued slide that has been through the safety recall & should be good to go. Now if all the ranges around my neck of the woods weren't still closed because of the virus. Maybe it's for the best, looked for ammo the other day & the only things my local store had were .44 Magnum & Special, and one lonely looking little box of .32 S&W Long. So maybe it's better to keep all the rounds I do have until things get better. Take care Icarryone, looking forward to a lot more videos from you!

I love those old Model 37s too. Nice job! It's a substantial job to recover those butt stocks, but you're not going to get American walnut and hand checkering like that without paying a princely sum. With a little bit of woodworking skill and nothing more than sandpaper, super glue, epoxy, Tru Oil and maybe a toothbrush.. you can bring that old wood back! At least don't throw it out! Someone on Ebay wants it and knows how to restore it! Fellas, don't put too much gun oil in your Ithaca and set it in the gun safe butt down... the oil runs out of the receiver and rots the buttstock. Lube it, don't make the metal swim in oil!

Any tips for removing the magazine tube from an 1951 production 20 guage? Also, any pointers on where to find a barrel for the same shotgun? I contacted Ithaca, but a new barrel is going to require an adapter. The cost for said adapter and barrel is going to run $750. The sales rep said their website was not up to date on pricing. I'd prefer to use an older barrel that doesn't require an adapter. I'd like to remove the mag tube in order to completely strip it all to bare metal and start from there with the bluing process. Not to mention, there is some rusting issues that need to be addressed. Hope you see this and have some advice. Thanks!
@Icarryone
3 жыл бұрын
There's really no need to remove the magazine tube once the barrel, forend and action bar are removed from the receiver. it can be prepared and reblued in place. Finding one of the older style barrels is really hard to do - especially in 20 gauge. Best of luck finding one.

Iv got an older slam fire version 37 that im a little confused about. Its a pistol grip gun with a 4 shot tube and 18inch barrel and the brass beed front sight. I thought it was a stakeout model then realized there cut off right after the mag tube. Im wondering what exact configuration this 37 came in. The Vietnam Vet who owned it is no longer with us sadly and id just like to know if it should have a reg shock or not. If it does il gladly take the pistol grip off but will keep it if its original to the firearm. Any info greatly appreciate and can give serial number if needed

Thank you sir. Good stuff. I picked up a couple old 12ga. Shotguns at a gun show this winter. One is a Stevens pump that was terribly neglected. Cleaned it up and slicked up action. But I considered reblueing it and refinishing stock. This vid a good encouragement to do so.

My first real bird gun was a Ithaca 37 12 gauge bought new in 1975. Although my shotgun battery has grown considerably that lightweight Ithaca still has its place in my battery. Pumps are just a hoot to shoot! Love to find a pre war riot model 37. P.S. I really like the fact that I can unload a 37 from the receiver without having to fight the follower!

Thanks!
@Icarryone
3 жыл бұрын
There's really no need to remove the magazine tube once the barrel, forend and action bar are removed from the receiver. it can be prepared and reblued in place. Finding one of the older style barrels is really hard to do - especially in 20 gauge. Best of luck finding one.

@@Icarryone Thanks! Guess I'll keep a better eye at the gun shows.

In all likelihood, the pistol grip was an aftermarket item. It would certainly be more controllable with a standard stock installed.

Try saturating the nut with penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. Then add a little heat from a heat gun, or even a blow dryer. This usually works.
