Lara Fabian was very well trained by the best opera teachers from Belgium and Italy, but she decided to sing pop songs, she als has the knowledge to sing in operatic way, she studied from her 8 to 18 at the Belgium Conservatory of Music (there she learned Bel Canto, piano [she composes her own songs on piano)... Then since 1998 she kept having vocal lessons with her Italian teacher untill nowdays, she has two vocal teachers (From Belgium and Italy) and she keeps having vocal lessons at least 3 times per week on-line. Lara also workz as a vocal coach on The Voice Canada, she already worked as the vocal coach at the Star Academy program in France from 2004 /2008. Here another Italian she LOVES to sing, one of her idols is the Italian singer Mina. ❤❤ Her mother used to sing Mina's song to her. I had great expectations giving your past reactions and the fact you are italian and thus so much connected to this song. But you exceeded these! Many covers made of this song are showcasing vocal power but very few are rendering the sad story of a dying man speaking for the last time to his younger wife about their love and the marvelous career he had. For those discovering Caruso (obviously not yourself or your italian audience): Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar. The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her. It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla. I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it. For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. Her first native language is italian. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian. She still recurrently spends weeks in her home in Catane, and I believe she is currently there, working on a new musical project.

I concur with many of the commenters here. I have seen a few very good reactions to this performance, but your comprehensive review has knocked them all out of the park! Most importantly you have really helped us who love Lara Fabian, through a deep look at her artistry, to understand better why we love her so much! Apart from Perdere l'Amore, which many have recommended there are so many performances you could review. Might I suggest the short " I Guess I Loved You", accompanied only by piano, from her 2006 Un Regard Neuf concert?

I love how while you’re giving a profound vocal analysis, you don’t shy away from being affected by the singing. I always enjoy your reactions. And speaking of this one, kudos to the exceptional pianist who creates, with Lara, an atmosphere and to me this version is not simply an “accompanied by the piano” but rather a voice and piano duet. His name is Charles Barbeau from Quebec and he has been one of the preferred pianists of Lara but also Celine Dion, Ginette Reno, … He was also the pianist of Je suis malade in the same concert and you can see him here with Lara when she sings snippets of her songs on demand receiving phone requests from fans. I really appreciate your reaction and all your explanations of the little things that make this song so great. I really liked what you say about the natural voice that doesn't exist and that you transform by performing. And you're right, it's the same in all the arts. It reminds me of something: I'm not a singer, but when I was younger I worked as a magician. And there is a famous quote in magic, by Robert Houdin, which says: "A magician is a comedian who plays the role of a magician". For me, this has always beautifully described my work.

I lived in Italy many moons ago and Lucio Dalla was one of the many artists I listened to. His version is completely "DALLA" and wonderful but Lara interprets songs and takes them to another part of heaven. I loved following along with my rusty Italian, reading the subtitles every once in awhile. You speak so clearly and your reactions were filled with musical knowledge and the soul of an artist. Interesting commentary even if I have watched this interpretation so so so many times and over again. This song sung by Lara right here is so addictive. Perfection in pro acting and singing, controlling every singles bits thus creating a true piece of Art. My my she is so talented . The most impressive is that she can do it live on stage singing many other songs in many different languages adding to that a perfect diction as well. Super bien ficelé en tous points. I recommend a Spanish singer, her name is Diana Navarro. She is a very versatile singer sings different musical styles has a very particular voice that always transmits the song that I recommend is "El perdón" official video clip.

She is so perfect. Another day I played one lara fabian song called "Meu Grande Amor" to my wife. This song was a huge success here in Brazil due to a soap-opera in the 1999. But her Portuguese is so perfect (as her Italian, Russian, Spanish and etc) that my wife said that because she was a kid at that time and Lara's Portuguese was so fluent, she didn't knew that this song wasn't interpretated by a Brazilian

The song that was a huge success in Brazil was Love by Grace (in English) for the novela Laços de Familia. Lara topped the brazilian charts during 6 months with this one and received impressive public praise. Then, to thanks Brazilian fans, she translated one of her biggest french hits in portuguese. "Si tu m’aimes" became "meu grande amor". Lara is a language genius. She learns accents and foreign languages almost immediately. She understands portuguese quite well but I think she only speaks it a bit and feels more comfortable in spanish. She used spanish when she was invited in Raul Gil or Xuxa shows.

Your reactions are quite interesting. I am curious to hear your comments on "Yentl Medley" live in Montreal performed by Lara. It's a cover from a song of Barbara Streisand and even her has not performed it live very often, as it is quite demanding. "Broken Vow" is another pick, an original song written by Lara and the same Barbara Streisand called Lara to ask Lara if she would agree her to cover it and Lara thought it was a joke until she realized it was really Barbara Streisand asking this.

In fact it’s her first native language as she spend most of her first seven years in Catane. When her family moved back to Belgium when she was 7, she refused to speak french for a few weeks 😀
