It Works!! (Homemade Bandsaw Mill, Part 3)
Finally it’s time to try a big log in the bandsaw - except there are a few obstacles on the way..
This is very exciting - after a couple of months on this project (with a lot of other things in between) we can try it out for the first time. I’ll be explaining in later films more about tracking and blades and the hold-downs and the coolant - because it’s all interesting stuff - but for now, I wanted to show you how this part went.
There are two other videos in this series (and if you’re interested in the rails and trolleys, have a look in our ‘Bandsaw’ playlist).
• Homemade Bandsaw Mill ...
• Bandsaw Goes Up And Do...

Calm and deliberate , steady as you go there mate. No nervous whining found with you. The excitement level is within tolerance while imaginative ideas abound. Believe you've the right mix of spirit and chumminess. Thanks.
Really like the shop railway--makes a great deal of sense. And, adapted, the idea could easily be used to move small garden structures about if needed.
I am a train enthusiast and loving seeing how your 'Railway' came into happing, Just wish your videos were longer as they are great to watch. Cant wait for your next video of the instalments after the set of point you built :) I wonder where track will go next!

Great homemade saw mill.
You have a strong horse ... it can pull the log easy
Nice work! That's nearly a WoodMizer!
Think I could watch you cut planks all day, it's really relaxing!
That's such a great feeling! Congrats on a successful run!

Cheers, Matt. You've been an inspiration all along. Of course mine is a puny affair compared to yours, but the logs I can get hold of are much smaller too. (I suspect mine cost a little less than yours did too!)

I told a lot of people about what you 2 were building, and I know lots of them are watching with interest. I know I have!!! Hope you both gained some new subscribers......of course we are watching for more videos on these builds........Cheers
I genuinely enjoy your videos, what you accomplish, and your sense of humor! Thank you for making them, and including us!
so nice to see Bob back in the picture
I love seeing a practical setup like this. Its amazing what can be done with a bit of start thinking. Congratulations.
Brilliant! I've been following this closely. I'm glad it worked.
Exciting Tim! Always impressive too. I enjoy your candor and honest self reflection. This is how innovators get things done! Wonderful! Good to see Bob in the video too!

Thanks, Will. Yes, Bob's back in action these days - long may he last.
What a pleasant tone to your narration; a career in VO would be a snap for you. You can read the scripts from home and send the files electronically, so you'd never need to leave your farm!
You know what I find a bit funny. I have never been to Ireland but being of Irish decent I have always dreamed of it. In those dreams I see rolling hills of grass and fields. I never pictured much forest there and it wasn't something I really thought of until you started this project.
Bravo for making a very capable sawmill for very little money! Thanks for the great video.
You are truly the best guy on KZreadr!!!! I love the way you work!, or Play it seems,,, Bless you and your beautiful animals and family Sir!!!
Amongst all the negative news and misanthropy these days, this is a great reminder of what makes humans great. Back to basics, ingenuity.
I was so sceptical of this when I started watching but what a success! brilliantly simple.
This project is a lot more difficult than you made it look. Congratulations on a job well done!
To see this not only running but cutting and doing a very good job of it is very enjoyable. The stuff you not only come up with but master is fantastic. This was top notch, thanks!!

it's amazing, all the different ways to mill a log. This is much different than what I am used to. Nice to see the innovation you put into the mill.
I love your sawmill.
This is just mind blowing. Well done!
not many mills can boast of a debarker they can make a sweater from later on while the wood is drying! thank you!
I have no interest in milling lumber, but I thoroughly enjoyed these videos. I love your ingenuity! Thanks for sharing this build with us!
Very ingenious, thank you for sharing. Well done, congratulations.
I'm not certain if this was intended too be a comedy, but I did enjoy it. Great story, great work!
That was very fun to watch how you built that mill. Great job!
Loved the making of the rails eg. Good common sense being applied.
Glad it works!! The sheep helped you out a lot too!!

Great job! Looking forward to the details on the build.
Fascinating. Wonderful job!
Brilliant success! Please do more videos on your band saw, especially the learning curve, and your ideas to improve design. And yes as someone else commented metal detector for safety.
A fantastic bit of engineering! Quite inspirational!
Amazing indeed. Chapeau to you and thanks for sharing!
Have really enjoyed seeing this project developing. Your videos are quite inspirational. Delighted for you that it works so well! (not that viewers were ever in any doubt that it would.) Congratulations!

congratulations, Tim! well done!
Sir, you are a true inspiration.
OH MY! I'm certainly glad to see there were no injuries due to the derailment. The news made it sound like a lot of people got hurt.....LOL. Very nice job by the way.
I thought I was watching "Shaun The Sheep" at one stage (my favourite cartoon). Congratulations on your success with sawing beautiful flat planks. I found your build and sawing experiments as exciting as Matt Cremona's, and held my breath 'til it was at the end - whew!! Brilliant videography with genuine farm animal participation ☺

Really great - fantastic
I have seen other ones on here and real like the idea of the static blade and especially moving the wood to it I thank is away better .Grate stuf

Cheers, Michael. Yes, I think this way is better for a static set-up. I guess they developed the other way for mobile mills?

Even with a mobile set up it would be very handy to have mobile track to bring wood from a pile to the saw mill
Absolutely amazing. Well done!

Молодец, отличная работа! Деревообработка,- навсегда!
Great job! I'm jealous. A suggestion: You might want to pressure wash the logs before slabbing them. You'll get longer wear out of your blades.
That sir is beast mode🍺
good work tim. looks like a lot of fun
Awesome build
Wonderful job well done Tim, only thing I might add would be a tower with weight to pull the log through the blade, oh yaeh a nice bright hi viz paint job too can never be too careful have a great day and a better tomorrow

You're right - paint would improve it. And probably double it's value : - )
How amazing! Quite extraordinary. As others have said, to get that unit to track straight with precision is a great achievement. Thoroughly enjoyed your videos, I hope you have fun milling the timber. And your wonderful commentary and sense of humour was just brilliant. We have some beautiful hardwood here in Australia...I dream one day of being able to mill some of it like you have. Looking forward to your next invention! Cheers

Wow really neat congrats!
WOW that's awesome..!!!
When I was at University, the ladies in the cafeteria had a similar device. With it, the were able to cut ham, roast beef and turkey so thin, it had only one side.
"Enough of these baby logs." Haha. You're ingenious, sir. Just discovered your channel.

Nice job! If it helps at all. Cooks Sawmills puts out a bunch of short videos explaining how to set up and fine tune band saw mills. Very informative and free. Worth taking the time to watch. Covers alot of things pertaining to blade life and accuracy. Hope it helps. Happy milling!
Very resourceful and works great. Just happened across your channel and am now a new subscriber. My kid saw your rail tracks and now wants Dad to build her a train track in our yard. Maybe I should have watched your video after her bedtime. lol

Great that she's interested - go for it!
Well done!
You may have already added this but I think you need a water line to keep the blade cool. That wet wood probably is fine but on the dry stuff it really heats up. Love your channel ❤️
I would like to suggest checking your timbers with a metal detector before you saw them, couls save an injury to you or your machine. Great job.
è fantastica !! mai avrei pensato che tenevi fissa la sega e muovevi il pezzo... fantastico sei grande !!
Great job , keep it up
This is awesome !!!
Well done T. love to watch how things going, you are a buzzy person.....got good Fanta that at the end proofs -things can work!- Next follow up a chainsaw ? Works also great [bit simper I think] less material and cheaper to build .......................... Anyway good luck and stay save, both of you. ;-) - Greetings from Holland-
Wow, this is a really interesting channel, I subscribed, I look forward to more!
i love your farm, beautiful family .
Lovely! Congratulations! I don't know why it is so, but here in America, we call those log stabilizer thingies you've built on the sides "log dogs". I would love to build a bandsaw and either a railway or a monorail because I have felled lumber all over my property, not to mention piles of wood chips, sacks of feed and bales of hay to move about. I think I'll need a log arch as well, but sadly I do not have any horses to help me move logs. Now to learn how to weld.

Tractors are great too - but we don't have one because we have horses instead. Sounds like you need something though!
5:00 That's a good idea! Get the sheep to eat all the leaves off it!
Great Job 👍🏻
Good job
fascinating to watch!
Your miniature rail line and trolley system has made me want to build my own. Now all I have to to is pursuade the bank to give me a mortgage for a large area of land.

love it Sir!
Good job...can i make one suggestion...block up the small end of the log halve the difference from the big end..and you will get more longer boards and more footage out of the log..😊

Greetings from Central Oklahoma, USA. Amazing ingenuity, excellent build quality. This is only the second homebuilt system I've seen with stationary saw and moving log. You're producing a very good cut. Will you need a cooling system? Again, well done, sir.
you are certainly a crafty person! you definitely must spend a good bit of time awake at night thinking allot! all you need now is to be able to adjust your tensioners to accept a bigger log and a sort of de barking tool that follows on front of the blade!
Good story teller :)
That's awesome!
Wildly impressive, but I'm starting to expect that from your videos. That thing cutting straight is so cool to see. I imagine you won't be able to come up with new shed designs fast enough to use up all the lumber you're going to mill this summer!
Brilliant!
This guy's the real deal.
