It felt so evil I even got reminded of the blood bath dance scene from Silent Hill movie.

You know what makes this so bad? It's the fear Cutie experiences being hunted down leading to her prolonged torturing and subsequent death. Taking something innocent and pure and making it suffer for what leads to an empty cause is the worst. I feel bad just watching this.

It's because within 5 seconds within meeting Cutie -- regardless if you know the game's story or not -- you can immediately tell that this is a sweet, genuine character. Throughout the whole ordeal, the two main characters themselves didn't seem terribly bothered by what they were doing. It's the fact that you're witnessing a genuinely kind character get mutilated to death.

@@anthonychase6906 It's not that much of a stretch. Fiction can cause heavy emotional reactions in people. As a kid I played a game called Seedling and broke down after I murdered a pixelated character at the end. After you have already been exposed to a bunch of shocking fiction, you eventually get used to it. But I can easily imagine the me from a few years ago watching this video and feeling sick to my stomach. Gore and the like are pretty easy to not take seriously, but the scene of slowly murdering a character while it screams in pain and begs for its life is quite chilling. The reactions from the two protagonists are also pretty disturbing; how they do not display any real empathy or reluctance for carrying out this plan, how shamelessly they tell the victim to stop begging for its life because it makes them uncomfortable. And the fact that they are apparently doing this in an attempt to break their own daughter's heart by killing one of her loved ones.

For all of those who are sad, just thought I’d let you know that in the after credit scenes it shows her sewed back together with a bandaid on her head

What makes this moment so brilliant is that up to this point Cody and May had to fight Rose’s toys, so you the players are geared up for another boss battle like Moon Baboon. But then the game makes Cutie the Elephant the most sweet and innocent character, and you’re forced to murder her. This is like the Pixar version of Spec Ops: The Line.

What makes it so much worse is she doesn't even try to protect herself. I fully expected Cutie to at least be a boss fight, and that maybe the twist would be that she wasn't so cute after all and actually psychotic. When you realize that's not happening, it's like "Crap.. we're actually doing this, aren't we?"

Yeah, just got done playing this with a friend and thought omg why couldn't there have been a choice to spare the elephant and let her live. Like why couldn't the characters see that maybe that elephant wasn't going to be able to help them and that she was innocent? @@IidosGamingDen

Legit never felt bad about killing a video game character until this. That’s what makes this game so incredible though. The shock you feel from not expecting this to happen. The game is truly a masterpiece. It makes you feel like a complete piece of shit.

So personally I used to sleep with a stuffed elephant as a kid, I still have him to this day and im in my 20's, this scene kept me up all that night hearing cuties cry, I legit felt dirty and evil, thinking of what would happen if that was my little old stuffed ellephant

I couldn't do it... I usually have no issues with hurting people in games because they did something to deserve it, but this doll, her voice... Her pleas, her just wanting to be friends, no violence nature at all... And I found myself unable to go pass this part. This is the first time I've even felt this way about hurting a game character.

Idk why you say "inide game" because I've seen this blunt, jarring and dripping with social commentaries storytelling in AAA games and indie games alike.

Wife and I are playing through this and we both feel like absolute garbage. Man, I have spent many save files hunting down every NPC I could in some games, but this made me feel like I need therapy. Still, this game is a masterpiece. AND THERE BETTER BE A RESOLUTION FOR CUTIE BY THE END OF THIS GAME.

Man that was the part I paused and my eyes just started on me man I felt so bad that we didn’t play for a few days that part gave us a lil truma 😂😂😂

I have never felt so immoral in my life than playing through this scene, I felt like I was actually killing a child and it was terrible. I felt a guttural rejection in my stomach when playing this and what made it worse was that it went on for minutes that felt like an eternity and they made you tap y for every time you ripped off her arms. I genuinely thought I knew the true feeling of guilt before I played this but I did not. Whats also bad is that they just move on as if that scene was completely normal and necessary, a scene where the parents rip apart an innocent child to make their own child cry and when they succeed they're HAPPY but when it doesn't work they say 'we are stuck like this' showing they only care about them selves

@Arachnotron If you don't find that un-nerving, and jarring based on the mood set up in the rest of the game then you sound like a damn sociopath dude. Sure there were some adult themes, and cuss words, but they straight up brutally murder an innocent begging being. Before this Cody gives her a hug, and afterwards they show no regret for killing the being/making their daughter cry except that they aren't human. They just move on like nothing happened. If you do a scene like that, at least make it a learning moment for the characters. They did something terrible, they should be showing remorse, questioning their decisions, and trying to do better. Instead they are just annoyed at not being human, and frustrated with the book. It was unnecessary, and poorly written.

They only thought of how their actions benefited them, they were short term thinkers, and they went through with their plan to kill Cutie instead of talking it out with her. If they'd let her live she'd surely have at least tried to help them. Or at least she would have volunteered to be temporarily injured so her best friend could have her parents back. But nooo, they didn't do any of that, and that's exactly why they were about to get divorced. A+ writing imo.

@@claudehu3169 exactly what I was thinking. I never played the game but I think the writers purposefully didn’t want them to redeem the characters bc like you said it shows how they don’t really think of the consequences of their actions.

This part sadly ruined the game for me and my partner and we stopped playing soon after... I do feel you have to LIKE the lead characters you are playing in a game to take them to the end, but they were unlikeable to begin with and by this point they were detestable ... And the fact they showed zero remorse just felt weirdly uneasy. We honestly felt really shitty afterwards and couldnt enjoy it thereafter. Pity.

In my opinion, trauma makes the best horror stories.

This scene is perversely horrible, as it affects both the psychological (humanity) and childhood, not to mention that you see the innocence of the Cutie Elephant (who was wrongfully killed) and also the child who cries for her loss. I was caught off guard, I felt terrible.

When I was little, due to my medical condition, I used to get very high fevers, sometimes to the point where I was delirious. I can barely remember them, but one that I do was this one time I was convinced my toys had feelings and would get really upset if I didn't love them enough. Even now, as a grown man, I still get emotional over it, it must have given me a complex or something, so as you can imagine this scene was gut wrenching for me. I'm man enough to admit I cried like a baby.

Its not exactly a complex. Its because something innocent and child-like just got brutally murdered as it screamed for help, and professing her love for your child. Even as you slowly tear it piece by piece, she still just wants to play. If anyone isn't unnerved by that, they got problems.

Even the reason for doing this is awful on many levels. Not only are they... y’know... committing a murder on a sentient being as it begs for it’s life but their doing it to *make their fucking daughter cry* . They, at this point, would rather hurt their daughter and permanently mutilate something she loves rather than even think of getting along. They bathe in their daughter’s tears and rejoice in glee that her pain will free them from this magical session of marriage counseling they desperately need. To be clear I do not hate the game. I love it and the very dysfunctional couple I’m playing as. I’m just having a big think about this scene for obvious reasons.

Biggest regrets of 2021. Buying this game for my kids as a Christmas gift.. I though its a family game until my younger kid tell me they killed a nice elephant that begs for mercy..

It's kinda scary that a kid's toy knows the concept of death so well

This whole thing could have been resolved by them going “okay cutie we need you to play dead or something.”

This was by far the most heartbreaking scene I’ve ever seen in a game/movie. When we needed to drag her to the edge and she was begging for mercy I started crying and covered my eyes because it was just to hard for me, and I’m 19 yrs old. I have never cried because of the game before in my life.

It’s no wonder their daughter is a mess. They keep causing her emotional trauma.

Me and my friend did this scene a few hours ago. We both felt really bad about killing her and had to take a little break. In a game like this i never thought we would see something as dark as this. I usually like dark tones and themes and think it makes the game or movie better but a game like this just doesn't suit it at all.

This is what makes it so good, as in great and brilliant storytelling. Puts a hard period on the sentence of the difficulties children face during divorce that is often overlooked as the divorcee's friends and family pitch their own opinions about the adults, but not the lifelong affect this has on the child. Yeah just played it recently with my cousin. It caught me off guard lol. I thought this was a kids game. We were both feeling really bad but also laughing in disbelief that it's happening

This tone of this game's writing is all over the place, so I guess it makes this stand out more. It feels like a murder scene from Telltale's The Walking Dead where you have to make a hard choice. But then, in that game you always had to talk about those decisions and get judged for them by other characters; there's no remorse or any kind of follow-up in this. What's more, this scene is pretty much murder of an innocent child by two adults, which, correct me if I'm wrong, Telltale's The Walking Dead never came close to touching.

This is darker than The Last of Us 2 prologue...

It almost feels like playing KH in the world of winnie the pooh but instead of having a wholesome and cute adventure with the friendly creatures you have to brutally murder them while they're begging for their lifes to reach the next level. This is so freaking psychopathic and sadistic... Wh... What am I even playing here!?

I found this soo disturbing i refused to do it, my husband took over and i left the room just like no im not doing that. ever since this happened i now have a hatred towards cody and may and want them to fail.

They fix cutie in the end credits, so i guess they fixed it? Still kinda hate them tho

this part of the game made me cry, whole time I was expecting her to morph into something evil so that it would be justified but it wasn't :(

Sometimes, allegory is really subtle and works quietly to add a level of nuance in the background. And sometimes, you play two parents slowly torturing the living incarnation of their child's innocence to death because it suits their adult agenda.

Just finished playing this level with my husband, and we both feel traumatised. This is easily the most evil thing I've ever had to do in a game, and I played the No Russian CoD level as a kid.

Dang we only knew the elephant for just few minutes but it felt so hard to do with her Innocence,.and How much she doesn't want to hurt us and her plea It felt hard to do with my friends though,

I've been playing this game on and off for the last couple of weeks with my 11 year old son, we had such an absolute blast up to now. I had no idea anything this dark would come up. It came out of nowhere. I was absolutly convinced the parents would change their minds near the edge, or cutie would turn evil and start shooting lasers out of her eyes or something to that effect, so we just pushed through it. But the only thing we did was killing and maiming a completely innocent creature. My son was so shaken up by it, I had to spent two hours comforting the poor kid. He was white from the utter shock. What a strange and disturbing decision to put something so dark and so mean in an otherwise amazing, upbeat, colorful and fun game. I just might have traumatized my very sweet and innocent boy, by playing something that I thought would be a great father son experience. I'm sad and not amused.

@@ItsShatter Thanks! This part just breaks the tone of the game way too much imo. As many people commented here. I personally do understand the humor, the absurdity and what they tried to do with it, but for so many people, even the adults here, it does nothing more but stain THIS experience. It just isn't the right game for it, to turn so dark and cynical out of the blue. It could have been handled better, they should have maintained the lightness and the kind of humor that makes the rest of the game so strong.

honestly isn't him experiencing this in a story far better than experiencing some real-life horrors? I think it's brilliant storytelling and of course depends on your parenting style but this is the best and most consequence-free way to get exposed to some of these harsh realities of life as a younger child...

@@thatcoolbreeze4555 but breaking the status quo-to make the story tonally inconcise like the film Psycho is what birthed the genre. I think that this game is meant to be for any audience, but as we all know, humans experience this type of pain around the would an unknowable amount of times a day.

Why is this so heartbreaking?

The WORST thing ive had to do in a game ever. My gf and i were crying so hard. She didnt deserve that.

This whole scene just broke my heart. I couldn't handle watching this for the first time since Cutie is so innocent yet all this happens to her

The parents mentioned Rose RARELY cry, they gotta destroy her most favorite toy to see if she will cry. They believe that's the only way to break the spell.

Not only did they kill Cutie but they also caused her so much suffering a fear, and then when they actually do the deed they are HAPPY and celebrating. They are just evil through and through

Divorce consultants should let couples with children watch this and the other symbolic scenes. Let them picture out themselves as Cody and May and their children as Rose. I wonder how much of an effect it would have.

We beat this part on stream with my wife and I both basically awestruck and in horror the whole time. They didn't even really feel bad, they were just hung up on it not working and didn't learn anything. We kept going, but they don't address it and still don't learn anything. Cody and May are two if the WORST parents I've ever seen and we're supposed to be rooting for them even though they've got their heads jammed so far up their asses that light cannot penetrate. We kinda just watched the ending since, after that, we might just return the game. Poor Cutie. Worst thing I've ever done in a video game I think.

Tbh the two parents don’t really change that much from start to finish and it seems like they would still be just a few weeks from divorce after the end of the game even though they are supposed to be okay after that 🤣

It's even worse seeing her apologizing to Cutie for making her broken. Not only did they essentially murder an innocent sentient toy but basically traumatized their daughter even more and celebrated it. Holy shit.

Exactly , game directors need to realize that using gore and blood is not really "brave" nor "brilliant" , not even scary , this is how you make a dark scene and i fucking love the fact that i got sick doing this , no game has made me feel bad for killing a fictional character before , so for me this is a brilliant scene

I cried like hell when I played this the first time, I didn't want to kill Cutie at all. The game really wants to make you feel bad when you rip Cutie's leg and ear off. This has to be one of the most messed up scenes in any video game I've ever seen.

Okay Okay, who in the right mind thinks this barbaric stuff belongs in a cute game?!? Did one of the developers had a horrific moment like this in their childhood?

I don't think it was supposed to be a "cute" game. I definitely went in thinking that as well, but it's a bit darker, and I think it was designed to be that way.

"pfft there is no way to make a cute kide like game Mature rated and disturbing without blood and gore! That's impossible!" *friend shows this scene* "okay....omg....I guess I got stand corrected.... sorry....I was wrong"

Call me a horrible person but i completely understood what this entire sequence is trying to show us. They were only acting on what they thought was right. Let's all be reminded that Cody ang May are going through having divorce. They were thinking that this is what is best for their daughter. They both know that their daughter doesn't want them to go through it but they're still planning to do it, anyway. This is perfectly demonstrated in this part of the game. They were in agreement that "killing" Cutie will make Rose cry and break the spell. Just as any, well-intended divorce, are trying to achieve, right? I am not all against divorce. Hence I said, well-intended. What I meant when I coined that are those marriages that well... didn't just work. No beating each other, and the likes. We should all be aware that in any divorce, the child(ren) is(are) always the collateral damage. No matter how hard we try to make sense of it to them, it will always haunt them, in one way or another. Had they wish to patch things up, is a very tough decision to make. It's not stupid to say that (some) couples wished to stay for the kids. Because when you decide to build a family, it's no longer about you or your partner... it's about your kids.

The fact they thought it was right doesn't mean zilch if their first choice is to basically murder an innocent, sentient creature just to traumatize their daughter into crying. Any sane parent would say "fuck no, I won't mentally scar my child" and try and find another solution, but nope - Murder is the best solution, and they don't even think too much about it later on. They essentially come out less as well intentioned and more as sociopaths.

Though I haven't played (nor watched) any part of this game, from what people have said about this scene even in the comments of this video, it looks like their mindset seems to be 'Fuck our daughter, we only care about what SHE can do for US'. If I'm not misreading this, they deserve to be stuck as dolls permanently. And set on fire, the world is ultimately better off without them and a foster family would probably take better care of their daughter.

I started this game recently with a friend, and when we got to here, I barely even wanted to touch my controller. Even now, after a few hours, I'm still emotional just even thinking about this scene. Hell, I'm fighting through tears just to write this. This scene is great, but god damn, it's the ultimate killer of childhood innocence. Just wow.

i felt like the worst human alive after killing cutie, i really didn’t want to kill her but i knew i had to, my brother (who was Cody) felt no remorse and just pushed her off like it was nothing omg

thank you for including the cute kitty at the end. It was a much needed palate cleanser after this horrific scene.

I like dark humor but this is just needlessly cruel and sadistic.

I think the reason why it’s dark humor is because leading up to this scene it is almost implied that there is no way you could possibly end up doing this. And then when it actually happens it’s shocking and so extreme..

@@ItsShatter I think dark humor needs to have a very accute sense of framing and comedic timing. If the juxtaposition was quick and jarring, or if the scene flowed better or was framed more competently, it would be a different story... but this just ultimately turns out overlong and uncomfortable.

its one of the main reasons i really fucking like this game , the scene was completely unexpected and no horror game made me feel sick about murdering someone like this game did , if a game can make you feel sick about violence to a fictional character , especially when it is a stuffed animal , then it is a brilliant game

This was really hard to watch. I've brutally kill people in manhunt, hit prostitutes with a bat before driving a knife in the gut in GTA , killed my infected semi zombie comrades in mgsv(still have PTSD) but this is f*ed up.

Wait, that's what happened? How the absolute fuckery did they think her tears would turn them back then? What those wretches deserved was for, instead of what they assumed would happen or absolutely nothing, to turn erase their agency. Turn them into motionless dolls, either deleting their sapience or letting them remain aware but unable to move or speak. A horrifying existence either way, but nothing they don't deserve.

Why this is so dark: 1. The song turn to slow. 2. She losing cotton when we drag him. 3. She trying to make friend with May and Cody even tho they darg him to Death.

What really suprises me, is the fact that someone as pure and innocent as Cutie actually knows the word "kill" and it's meaning

Those two literally killed a CHILD just because they need to make THEIR DAUGHTER cry. I understand that to break the spell they need tears, but this must be HAPPY TEARS. Those two are really blind to their daughter feelings.

“The elephant” in the room is that they were both so selfish and self centered that they would destroy their daughter’s toy for themselves, just as they would destroy the home by getting divorced due to their own selfishness. Well done…not sure how many people caught it. It was a beautiful allegory.

And to think I thought sucking the Vacuum Tower's eyes out was dark, but this is more messed up then that.

I've seen and done all sorts of messed up things in games before and just kept going but this BROKE me. Legit couldn't stop sobbing until after we got to the next area entirely

This game has a great soundtrack, listening to the happy melody on the piano turn into a detuned nightmare when ghe queen finds out she's going to die is slightly unsettling

I'm permanently traumatized after this scene, Cutie is so precious and pure

I Cry like a bitch after seeing this part and I won't deny it

I really thought they would have considered something else when they finally got to the elephant, but this is much more memorable.

I'm glad I found this before I bought it for myself and my 7 y/o.

Jesus Crist... I'm speechless. I thought this was like a children's game.

Real talk.. Just got up to this part with my brother and THIS was honestly more disturbing than The Last of Us 1 and 2 combined. To the point where this one scene was just way too much. I genuinely didn't like this one single bit and in my personal opinion? This game just has dropped a few points for me. I mean don't get me wrong, it’s still an amazing game but because of this one scene, it just made me lower my overall score for this game.

I came here to see if anyone else was traumatised by this scene. Glad me and my bf aren't the only ones. I felt so bad I went and got my old elephant plushie out of the garage and put it in my room

The irony of being in therapy right after this happens is funny. Also props to the voice over actress beautifully done!

This is incredibly hard to watch. I'm 28, and can't even imagine how I would have reacted to this if I was a little girl who stumbled upon this game or saw this on KZread...I would have been absolutely devastated.
