I like this little table. We had a similar one in our home back in the sixties and seventies. Mom put the old rotary phone on the top shelf and put the phone book on the second shelf. There was a Lazy Boy chair on either side of the table. It was the 'Nerve Center' of our home as it was the only phone in the house. In those days, there was a pay phone on almost every corner in town. Thanks for the video.

I wonder if it would be possible to use a very sheer stain with a hint of purple in it, to neutralize some of the yellow undertones but keep the wood grain texture. Like what you do with bleached blonde hair to bring it to a more neutral platinum color.

In the early 60s my father made two end tables very much in this style at my mother's request. They were called "dough box" tables and were solidly in that, "Lucy and Desi move to Conecticut" school of "Early American" furniture. The ones he made were actual boxes - all four sides were closed and no cut outs. The top was hinged in the middle to get into the box, which was handy for storage of living room clutter, actually. But it was the same design, same leg position, box style, etc. - replicas or inspired by 18th century dough proofing boxes. Kind of a departure for you, and I enjoyed it!

Agree. This is a weird - and inelegant - design. But I like the approach to refinishing it. The white stain could be stunning on a different piece. It reminds me of something from the mid 1940's, just before the more aggressive minimalism of Mid Century Modern.

As always, your videos are a joy to watch and to listen to. I very much like how you film, and also that we have glimpses of people and animals again. And although I know that you play the guitar well, and that you could provide beautiful music as a background, I prefer the quieter and less distracting ambient sounds along with your commentary. As for the table, it looks more like it should be in a nursery than a bank, but it's a nice little thing. I like that you made it white but let the grain show through.

This is by far one of my favorite pieces you have done. I am refinishing a bunch of early American maple furniture from the 60s and quite honestly you are an inspiration. I am however going to do it in the maple finish but this is also beautiful as well. The white washed look lens itself very nicely to this design and style. Very Scandinavian.

Didn't know how to feel about it either, at the start, but you won me over in the end! I've seen lots of DIYers using household bleach and a wash of diluted chalk paint, but the gel stain came out so smooth. In the end, the white stain is much cleaner than thick white paint you found it with, and gives the whole project a higher end/more intentional feel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
