I too was confused why Magic is not playing this kid, but now I get it. I saw two clips with Coach Murphy and he has repeatedly said “Play it by ear”. Filipinos took it literally and chanted to his ear 😂. In all seriousness, he is actually telling us that it’s not his decision who the management are tying to watch and play in their first two games. So it really doesn’t matter if Kai plays the last two or three. It’s just part of the process. Winning also is not the important aspect in SL, it’s how a player can efficiently play on & off the court. Kai is already showing stronger sign of patience and professionalism. This is huge and teams in the league are noticing this. They all know the pressure this kid has already and they already see how his fans and followers are going to impact or distract him. Kai is showing so much maturity during this stint in SL. Wemby only played two games. I know, I know he is already signed, but again it’s part of the process that a legitimate contender for a contract will just play couple of games. Not making sense if an applicant for a roster or contract plays all five games in SL. It proves them nothing. Two games minimum is enough to see, how a player can handle all the pressure on/off the court. There is no truth to it as well, that Magic is trying to hide Kai from other teams. They don’t need to hide him, because again he is UFA, no team, even the Magic organization has rights to him. If they like him already, they would have given him a two-way. Why bother sitting him out to hide him from scouts? It’s 2023 and they all know what’s needed to be done. It’s not also discrimination, again it’s part of the process. I believed Kai will get a chance and not just play in SL, but get a contract with a team in NBA. If he performs exceptionally well during the last two or three games, and show that he can handle himself on/off the court, even if he doesn’t get minutes or get more minutes, it’s guaranteed teams will be calling his agent and sign him in. Not just two-way. So just trust the system and stop hating on Coach Murphy, he doesn’t have control of the roster.

It is really this simple. Kai does not have the talent to play in the NBA. At best is the PBA, at worst is inter barangay. If you know how to play ball then youd know the kid does not have the talent and skill. STOP YOUR ILLUSION OF PINOY PRIDE!

I'm looking into the angle of Kai getting playing time on the third game and winning at the same time... so then, it will give an impact on their assessments. Unless someone from the higher-ups of Magic is manipulating his playing time, then his agent should start looking for other teams that would show interest in him. Anyway, he would still be raking in millions of $ when he comes back to Japan B.League with chances of getting signed to other NBA teams.

Win or loose, it doesn’t impact how a player will get a contract or crack the lineup. I’ve seen ballers in past SL’s where they played so well, exceptionally well and even managed to win games, but ended up losing and offer. Yeah it can be a factor, but not really. The biggest factor is the players character and attitude towards the game on/off the court. Meaning, can he represent the team, can he manage all the pressure and avoid distraction? Will he be a good teammate and not a cancer in the locker room? Etc…Yes playing well in SL is addition to that, but it’s 2023, the NBA teams did not just offer Kai and invite if they haven’t seen him play. Obviously, they have already and have seen him in practices and scrimmages. Playing in SL is not just to showcase young talents and veterans who can still play and trying to get a contract, but in reality, the teams (organization) are watching them closely how they handle themselves in public and viewers around the world. This is why Kai’s handlers are smart and have focused on his mental strength. Ever wonder why he keeps positive cheers even on a blowout game? Because that’s what teams are looking for. At first I also thought it’s probably discrimination, but it’s actually not, my opinions have changed after talking to a reliable source. Also, my opinions also changed for Coach Murphy, after all, it’s not his decision.

Don't tell me that the roster they have is no better than the roster of other teams. There's a reason why he is still not playing.

I would understand if the roster they played was lit, but Kai Sotto is way Better compare to those guys

I've said this so many times even during the 2022 NBA draft and I'll say it again: Real talk my friends. He is not short of talents, fact is he is better than Dieng, but he will never be given a contract in the NBA not even a two-way contract in spite of being better than most of the drafted 2022 NBA players. The NBA has an axe to grind against him which started when he abruptly left the Gleague for commitments to play with the Gilas team during the pandemic. The IGNITE team was basically created for the young players which NBA deemed as great talents with a bright future ahead and spent a huge amount just to sign Sotto up. They went through the length of introducing him on social media and mainstream media but sadly, he didn't get to play one single official game with Ignite. Don't you realize that Givony, an NBA mouthpiece, has nothing good to say about Sotto? Kai is in the Magic roster only because his handlers are well connected with the Magic. He will never be given that opportunity to prove himself. How's that for an axe to grind? I'm not surprised that he wasn't given playing time. Can't you see what's happening now? In or not in the NBA but still great achievement for Kai to be invited . Sometimes it is not the players it just not he does not fit to what they are trying to achieve in their line up . The summer league is unlike a regular season, where winning is the ultimate goal. It's more a test of what they have with their rookies, how they play, gel, and take control of the game. Obviously, the depth of these rookies is shallow to win games at the moment. They are allowed to commit mistakes and own the outcomes of their playing. Coaches will work on their strengths and areas for improvement. Remember, these guys will be on their roster. Now, the DNPs we know are the candidates for a possible two-way contract ( only two left), but the Magic does not need a Center. They play small ball, so we can be grateful Kai is with them and hopefully will play minutes, not for the Magic but for other teams to see.

I am just amazed how composed and professional he is regardless of all that happened for the past 2 games. He will get his opportunity and he’ll shine from all adversities, doubters and hearsays

Like you said, if Kai is good enough to play against the Phoenix Suns, he is going to be much better playing in the G league. It's either the Orlando Magic is lying or they are just simply lying :) If they do not play Kai, then it is not that Kai does not deserve to play with the Magic... It is the Magic that does not deserve Kai.

Way back when he was in TSF, he dominated guys from G League and Overtime Elite, then he went to Pro like NBL ans B.league posted career highs when he really played.

Well all is not yet lost for the young 7'3 filipino cager there's still another game for Orlando and I'll be holding what the coach said that KS will be given his chance. Next game July 14 hopefully.

there's no way this is Wasserman's plan/doing saying they chose Magic because of more opportunity, maybe Magics original plan was to play Kai Sotto from the start but ofc some people complained about favoritism and nepotism because Kai's agent has connections with Orlando and some higher ups did something about it but its still fcked up if they didnt give Sotto a lot of minutes during 3rd and 4th game then that's really really fckd up

Love the Kai sotto vids right now, first time I heard about him was on one of your vids about a year ago. He needs to be utilized way more, but then again the Orlando magic front office has made terrible decision after terrible decision for the past 7 to 8 years so I can see how they are screwing this up.

Kai will get his shot. I find it funny how so many people want to talk smack about the team not playing him, when they were the only team to invite Kai. So for everyone who wants to see him on another roster because he hasnt had a shot to play in the first 2 summer league games, maybe remember those other teams never even gave him an invite. I also want to see him play and hopefully he will in the next game. But lets not talk junk about the only team to even invite him just because they havent given him that opportunity to play in 2 games. If they dont give him a shot at all then feel free, because i too will also be talking some smack myself.

Actually his stats in BLeague and NBL is the one that influenced them to bench him.

Magic has the tradition of best centers like Shaq and Howard, it will be hard for him to impress them, poor kid.

I hope Kai stays locked in, use this situation as a motivation, so when they finally use him be aggressive every play on both offense and defense.

Before he signed with the magic, it was said that the Knicks were impressed. They are in need of a floor spacer at the 5 spot. Not sure if he’s NBA ready, but he would fall behind Mitch, Hart and Sims and probably wouldn’t make the roster anyway.

let us be realistic on the situation of kai sotto, orlando magic roster are complete already for regular season, even the slot for 2 way contract, no way for kai to get any slot, and one thing, kai is an invited player not prospect of magic.

Seems like magic don't like other teams to scout Kai. With this Kai salary won't go up.

Stop bringing race into this, and I’m half Asian half Hispanic that lives in Orlando. Watch every single Magic game. Instead of making baseless claims understand what our needs are as a team. #1 Wendell Carter is this teams starting center. Hands down no questions asked. Wendell’s trajectory is still rising. Go ask Boogie Cousins & Kevin Garnett. They validated that. Wendell has proven he can actually play at a high level in real NBA games. #2 Look at the two other centers we have let go in the past 4 months. Mo Bamba & Bol Bol. Both perimeter oriented bigs who gave up a shit ton of points on the defensive end. Couldn’t defend water in a ocean. Sotto’s game very similar. Is he a mismatch offensively? Maybe. Would he get destroyed by guys like Embiid, Jokic, Bam, AD, KAT, etc. absolutely. We need a back up center that can come in and bang when Carter needs a blow. We need our backup center to be physical as fuck. Crash both sides of the glass. An enforcer with the 2nd unit that will feature both new rookies. We need the back up center to be an anchor, period. #3 Sotto needs to develop still. He’s young. It’s ppl like y’all that are doing him a disfavor. He’s a raw prospect w/ untapped potential. We don’t need our back up center to stand out there jacking up 3’s when we got dudes on the team that shoot those shots better. We got scorers & Sotto wouldn’t be demanding shots any time soon taking away from Paolo & Wagner. Learn the game. Darko Miliic was drafted like 20 years ago. League was weak back then. It was him Bron and melo. Darko wouldn’t of gotten drafted in todays league just like Sotto. All you see is flash & shooting from a 7footer which is great. But unless you’re Dirk & nobody is Dirk, put some weight on and prove you can bang with the big boys. Sotto would get absolutely destroyed by Embiid. It wouldn’t be fun to watch. Let him develop correctly before you put unrealistic expectations upon him.

first of all.. it’s summer league.. second of all.. you gotta be pretty bad in practice to not get minutes in the summer league. they don’t owe the fans anything. if he’s trash in practice give those minutes to people with better potential.

Hindi na paglalaruin si Kai Sotto kasi naka pirma na siya nang contract, Magugulat na lang Kayo kasi sa NBA na siya maglalaro. Pinagtitripan Lang ang mga Fans niya para mas May pag usapan wag kayo masyadong mainip abangan niyo na lang 😎
