It's Not Looking Good For Ice Spice

Музыка

Ice Spice is gearing up for the release of her debut album Y2K this year and in this video I talk about why it's looking a little rough for the prospects of that project. #rap #hiphop #icespice

    All female rappers in this lane are Saweetie-like. If female rappers want to do better, they need to bring better music and worry about bars, not a** shaking. They have to care about the art of Hip hop and the craft. Any artist that tries a little bit can get mainstream numbers if they make catchy music and club hits but that don't really get you respected inside of hip hop itself.

    @@numbersonly12345 There's a difference between main stream listeners and Hip Hop culture fans. I don't know anybody inside Hip hop culture on the street, in the barbershop, who listen to bars, who rock with up coming artist who cares about Ice Spice AT ALL. The only people I see care about Ice Spice are Content creators, those who want to see her shake her a**, people with vested interest like folks from the Bronx where she's from (I'm from Brooklyn) and the random mainstream listeners. Mainstream listeners have high numbers, but they're not like true hip hop fans. Ice Spice is a generic artist who gets clicks off of sexualizing herself. The streams and views are good for her pocket, not for her respect level or care among dedicated hip hop folks. You either can be an artist who is respected for your craft in hip hop, or just a passer by who made some decent cash but you're not really respected down the line. Nobody is going to care about Ice Spice 20 years from now IF she stays on this generic a** shaker path. If you are a female artist and someone like Sexy red is comparable to you, that's not a good thing for YOU. Nikki did the same thing but she's more respected because she has bars, and overtime her public persona is shown to be a little more mature so she gets a pass. Nobody I know really takes Ice Spice seriously in hip hop. Many forgot she exist already. They associate Ice Spice with her looks only.

    She has no substance; her style and production has already run its course well before her debut album. This is only inevitable since she was an industry plant picked for the way she looked. I just don’t see her being the type that releases albums. As someone said in the comments she raps like she’s doing freestyles on instagram live. There will be one or two good songs, tops on that album. And it’s not as if her music is the type that you would be fine with others knowing that you listen to it. I really like her so I want to be wrong, but this fall off just seems inevitable. Sexyy redd seems to be her replacement, and people are ALREADY fed up with her. Female rap is in a really dark place right now. But in the underground, it’s really good. I like BK Tha Ruler, but I also like Tia Corrine. The latter is what Ice Spice could have and should have been, and what I thought she would evolve into by now. I really wanted to see a collab. Kendrick vs Drake really opened my eyes up to how TRASH a lot of these rappers are. I knew they were bad but not THIS bad. And with the death of generic trap and emotional trap it means a lot more of these artists are going to have to evolve quickly, or else they’ll get replaced. Also, what happened to Lil Nas X? It seems like he can only stay relevant with controversy? Is his music actually good? Because he can make some catchy tunes. I now see why my old school hip hop friend hates modern rap. Japanese rap is in a weird place. On the one hand you have a lot of the modern stuff, but it’s really based on 2016 American rap. Then you have the genre as a whole which is still influenced by that 90s American vibe. We are at least 7 years behind you guys lol. I think we have some of the best producers though. The afrobeats and house/garage vibe fits really nicely over the chill style of rap many artists have. Either that or it’s super aggressive.

    I tried listening to Ice Spice since she came out with Bikini Bottom, and I've said it back then, and I'll say it now. I honestly don't get it. I didn't enter her discography to be disappointed. I was only slightly disappointed because people who recommended her to me got my hopes up, but I'm not disappointed in her songs being either average or even boring as her career goes on because it was exactly what I expected after hearing the first song for the first time. If someone tells me that an artist is next star potential, I better see something that gives them next star potential. With Ice Spice, I literally see nothing except for that she's attractive (Which that within itself, there is absolutely nothing wrong with), and that's why she got big.

    I don’t listen to her but I hear some snippets of her popular songs every once in a while on my feed. With this album name it has me thinking it may have a different sound. In the future maybe she’ll go like a snowstrippers/pink pantheress/ babyxsosa type vibe. Or a pop kinda vibe. I feel like that’s how she could evolve her sound. Obviously not sounding like them but doing her own thing in that similar lane

    I’m wondering why people are rooting for her, so much. I honestly don’t see the potential. And also, music is an art that takes years to perfect and I think you need to be at a certain professional level to receive all this support. I’m also in the art field. Not music, but illustration. And when you start looking for work by contacting art directors, if your work isn’t at a certain professional level, they simply tell you to work on your technical skills like your anatomy, colour theory, composition, etc. and you will not get the job. Ice Spice having all these opportunities, while not having the competence for it, is just weird. There are so many small artists showing true passion and actual competency, who don’t even get half of the exposure she’s getting. It’s just disappointing.

She might not feel the need to try because everyone is feeding her ego and there’s no motivation to push forward. I saw her perform last month at Coachella, she had no stage presence or emotion that makes you enjoy an artist. She’s not bad, but she’s need to put in work to get to the next level

    I agree and it’s not that like I like ice spice, her music is catchy. I don’t know her as a person, but I think it’s the fact that when we hear your music right if you use the same beat, it was the word she used versus. let’s say Nicki Minaj, who she collaborated with Nicki Minaj lyrics, lyric lyrics Are so intriguing captivating actually tell the story actually talks about something and then when I spice put that her new music out the lyric was like I’m his poopy. I need a diaper just like so is your audience like 13 to 16-year-olds because no grown woman is gonna be in the car or at a club time up poopy Diaper.

    I think everyone is a hater and music has room for all kinds of artists. It’s the cliché of, “if you don’t like it then don’t pay it any mind, don’t listen to it.” You can have your opinion and everyone agrees with each other that it lacks substance and/or originality. I get it the whole body, the big booty and the hype at first probably helped boost her up if she isn’t an industry plant, but it’s a new voice and take it with a grain of salt and enjoy it or not. Instead of hating on her go support the artist you think deserves her spot. Throw all that energy that way

    I think I speak for ALOT of ppl when I say her career is on the line with this album. So far her music has basically been the same a few safe differences but nothing to ambitions nothing showing off her pen work and album is goin to FORCE her to do things differently or it’s jus goin to be terrible

  • @timmy5876

    her career was only gonna have one outcome, she got that one style she uses which is tolerable and even decent in a couple songs if the beats good but after some time she was always gonna have to switch it up or people would say every songs the same and her switching it up would be the decider in her future being bright or her fading away. Her new louder sounding voice is very annoying and just does not sound good to put it simply, i predict that she’ll make a couple more half decent songs with her original style then she’ll fade away into something like lil pump is doing right now where he makes a bit of music but his main gig is in other fields outside of music

  • @Lil_Crizzy
    @Lil_Crizzy25 күн бұрын

    I'm not concerned about her career at all. I see her potentially being relevant for a long time, she has the likability, name-recognition, and cultural relevance needed to garner attention on new music, potentially indefinitely. The success of said music will completely depend on it being good, of course. But I don't see any reason she can't build a long-term career on a diet of singles and EPs. Someone like Saweetie is a similar case of medium-low talent with a knack for hit-making, and she hasn't released an album in her 6 year career (and has only 2 EPs). But Saweetie could drop a single at any time and it will blow up, if it's a hit. Another example is Tyga, he's never made a great album, 95% of his music is not worth listening to, but he can drop a huge hit at any time. Munch is a hit, In Her Mood is a hit, Deli is a hit, Boy's a Liar is a hit, Barbie World is a hit, Princess Diana is a hit. That's an incredible output of big songs that most artists would envy, and she's only 2 years in. Not to mention the revenue and brand opportunities that the exposure generated by hit songs enables (Super Bowl commercials, brand deals, TV appearances, etc.) She currently has a starry commercial that plays nearly every ad break during the NBA playoffs. Hit songs generate more revenue, and much more fame, than most (non-superstar) artists' entire albums do. I don't see why she ever needs to drop an album full of 15-20 filler songs, when the occasional single or EP can bring massive success and not dilute/overexpose her sound. And I wouldn't worry about her batting average either, because a single big hit every year or two renders a slew of missed singles or even a terrible album irrelevant.

  • @heesio
    @heesio27 күн бұрын

    I believe she should consider switching things up and focusing on releasing more songs like "How High?" for her Debut Album, she released enough hype music for now and people are tired of it. "How High?" stood out to me because of its pop sound, which could attract a new audience of pop listeners even though many people into rap won't like it. The combination of her smooth rap delivery and the pop/R&B production was a winning formula, with inspiring yet playful lyrics. But it didn't got the attention it deserved because Deli overshadowed every songs on her EP. But to be fair, i don't think she'll ever want to try something new.. her most streamed & succesful songs are the ones people claim to "sound the same" so why would she stop something that is working for her..
