It's like a Game Boy, but worse | Can i fix it?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I paid £19.99 for this Grandstand Game Player, for some reason.
It was sold as faulty, no power, doesn't turn on. The usual.
Let's try and fix it!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

I had one of these! Saved up my pocket money and got it from Argos. I recall Football was shit, minefield was utterly baffling and Invader was the only one I really played.... I eventually took it all apart (including carts) and knackered it..
Very nice indeed! Dr. Ashens would be both impressed (at your repair) and deeply worried (that yet another pop stations exists) 😁
Yep, I was taken in by this. Got it from Argos when I was about 11. Seconds of fun. The most enjoyment I got out of it was peeling all the stickers off in a vain attempt to make it look a bit less crap.
Everything you open up to work on, you should add write or a lable that says it was fixed by you and where to watch the repair video. A fun Easter egg for someone in the future.
I never seen cartridges with a screen, so cool
'like a game boy but worse' I would love honest marketing like this 😂
Thanks for the entertainment, Steve! Your videos gave me the confidence to hard mod my Switch with a modchip.
Nice surprise for a Wednesday night! Great videos Steve!
Thanks for the entertainment Steve; always a joy!
I think we all had those types of portable games, but I hadn't seen a cartridge with a screen.

Lol "Soccer." Thank you, Steve. As an American, I find your American accent very endearing.

@@samholdsworth420 Didn't say it was. Most all American words are English words. And, English itself borrows from quite a few languages. I was specifically referring to his accent change. He does it with certain words and I love it.

@@ruzziasht349 Yes, I do "listen to myself." Lol but moreso I READ my own comments before I post them. Then I even edit them afterwards. Nothing I said was untrue. To reiterate and simplify: American words are English words. There are exceptions. If I'm going to argue technicalities and semantics then I would say: Native American languages are the true American languages. To wit, English is an amalgamation of multiple other languages. Next time it would behoove you to read my comment fully and make sure you comprehend it before trying to pretentiously patronize me in such a tactlessly trivial manner.
"Another mans e-waste is another mans ... e-waste" - Jon Bringus. Probably last year ^^ Nevermind, I like to watch you repair something, Steve :) Greetings from Germany 😁
Love your videos! Keep it up!
I wish you'd fixed the poor pin connection that was causing the intermittent display in the first place, but I can't say I haven't used the "wiggle it until it starts working and then don't touch it again in case it stops" method before... "Let he who is without bodge cast the first stone"

Nicely done Steve!
Loving the John Barnes Rap cover 🤣 didn't expect a cover of world in motion but quite glad we got it. Also thanks for all the vids, been watching you for a few months or so and it's inspired me to try to get into electronics and buy the tools and so on. Thanks again Steve and keep on making the great content... Peace! ✌️
Oh wow I had this as a kid before I had a Gameboy! Memories unlocked! Got to end and realised you did have invader 😂
Stez I have seen you fix up some junk but this may take the cake. Great work!
I have enjoyed watching you improve your skills since I found your channel some time ago and it inspires me to keep fixing and learning electronics. I've watched you struggle with corroded battery terminals and keep saying to myself that you should invest into nickel plating. I'm looking to do the same.
On vacations which involved 7+ hours of driving to get to the destination, my parents got me and my brother LCD games. I loved them. Nowadays, I don’t feel much nostalgia for them, mainly because almost all the games are rubbish. I mean stupid.
Yay! New videos are awesome
I had this! Spent hours playing Mine Field back in the day.
I had a Quickshot Supervision, it was bloody brill.
Never seen the cartridge with the screen on nice little video 😊
I had one of these when I was younger and spent ages on it 😅
I can see why you bought this. A really interesting design choice for the screens to be integrated into the carts instead of the cart player
Two videos in a week, couldn't be happier.

Remove the battery springs that have rust and put them in a cup of white vinegar for about 10 to 15 minutes and use a tooth brush to scrub them after the 10 to 15 minutes of them being in a cup of vinegar to get remove remaining rust this technique works really well

Oh, he knows about doing that, he's done it before. In this case, he had the replacement springs from a previous repair, so it makes more sense to just replace them.
There's nothing like refurbing some good old fashioned e-waste. 😆
Nice.
Nice
Imagine asking for a Gameboy for Christmas in the early 90s and getting one of these instead.........you would definitely be annoyed!
I think Dave is tampering with your Magic pointy finger. No link in the corner😂
Good vid. Great music. Better.
StezStix - World in Motion 2024 needs to be made for the Euros 😂
"how do you die in football?" 🤣😂
I spit out my drink when I heard the uh, song at the end.
Was its default song Dixie? Interesting choice
I use to have one of these with a power ranger theme as a kid.
Ah, the competitor to the Game and Watch, it's the "Game and Nothing Else" I hear it was really popular with dentist's offices and minimalist street performers whose hurdy-gurdy's were in the repair shop.
I had this as a kid. Part of me wishes I still had one even though it was a bit garbage 😅
What the dog doing?
Would like to see more you upgrade the old devices by upgrading or adding more components. Upcycling.
greetings from México!
A welcome return to VOS outro raps!
Thought I would share I be wearing my punk Exploited t shirt, saw them Woolwich polytechnic and 100 Club a few times :)
I do enjoy watching you get your butt kicked by "stupid games" LOL.
I'm guessing that the games themselves are the cartridge things with the LCD screens and all that the machine is doing is providing power, controls for the games and sound output. Sort of like the hitclips did.
Love the videos, particularly the retro consoles. Ever repaired a DS Lite?
The making of the next England manager me thinks.
Lucky surviving the reverse-polarity power connection (1:01).
polarity ma dude!! :)
Nice fix! You're lucky you didn't fry it when you connected the bench supply with the wrong polarity as most cheap electronics has no protection for such abuse.
I had one of these as a kid haha
I got a feeling the is a cold joint on the cart pins to board area
Wot no rap section? But that's your trademark! Odd design of game with each cartridge having a screen.
the song of the 90's
lol good job
I still have my Original Gameboy Colour and an Atari Linx with games for both. Sadly i do not have my Sega Game Gear anymore :(
I know there is a certain movement for saving these games for preservation and nostalgia, but they really were landfill even when brand new 😂
So strange it starts with "I Wish I Was in Dixie"
The outro should have clearly been the england song from the Mike Bassett film.
2:41 you shouldn't vape in the studio Steve 😂
do you fix viewer stuff? I have some laser levels that need repairing!
Letttttttssssss gooooooo!
I love those old knock off LCD games.
@2:52 Technically it was melting the plastic :D
Second time I have seen reversed polarity colors. First time was in a China-produced Conic TG-621.
But did you melt the plastic when soldering the wire to the battery contacts? 😅
Interesting videos. What's the hamsters name please 😀
Voice Over Steve face reveal when?
Hello Steven, Is there any way to message you directly? I have a question regarding a repair of an Orient digital lcd watch..by the way greetings from Australia, I love your videos, I’m a bit of a watch repair guy and I collect lcd and led watches. Best regards, Slav.
Steve! Please clean your rubber work mat. It's so dirty!
How did they swith the red and black wires..... Especially if they knew enough how to take them off in the first place
Wow. The display is in the game cartridge.
I have a talkboy from home alone that doesn’t work, maybe needs a new belt. I bought some belts but have no desire to open it as I don’t wanna break it, would you be interested in helping a brother out?
£20, Steve? £20?! lol
does anyone know what video to search for to learn about dave's origin? 🙂

3:14 I'm sure there's an animal called a balm.
Where's your music from?
Why does the start up jingle sound like Dixie?
Stez!! Where are you???
Interesting choice of music for their games start sound. Know what makes me think of European Soccer? An 1859 American Confederate Civil War Anthem! 😂😂
Strange to use Dixie Land as the opening tune in every game. The novelty factor made these popular. Once you had a go on one for a few times, it was not very interesting anymore. I think my son had captain scarlet on a hand held and lost interest very quickly. This cartridge with a screen system must have made the cartridges expensive.
...how can you die in football 😂
hahahhaha ... taking notice of colour of the wires instead of the terminals
You next assignment, if you choose to accept it, is learning how to nickel plate cleaned battery contacts.
Checking my calendar, HMMMM!
The LCD is in the game cart wtf?
