I Paid £38.98 for this FAULTY X-Pro CONSOLE | Can I FIX It?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I got this Kinhank Super Console X Pro off of eBay for £34.99 plus P&P. It was sold as faulty, it has power, but doesn't display anything on the TV.
These things seem to go for over £100/$100 on Amazon (UK: amzn.to/43B2Dft US: amzn.to/473NSF5)...
...so let's see if we can fix it!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve

A few years ago I repented to God then begged for help, "I was until then an Atheist." I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed.", and what I felt from Jesus when I held him was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of Love every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life, forever. I've had other experiences since, "Several witnessed", one was seeing a bright orb of light pass across my face in the dark, hours before a major surgery the second I gave up in my heart. Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they Love us deeply. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you Love them. @@narsakucanada154 A few years ago I accepted Lucifer into my heart. Until then I was "Hellenic Polytheist". When walking home from the store, I felt both Hestia, the ancient Greek goddess of the hearth, and Lucifer, the goddess of rebellion, encircle my soul with their flames. Their warmth and strength were unlike anything I had ever felt. It was as if I had two divine mothers, one Above, in Olympus, and one Below, in Hell, each offering a different guiding hand, each with their own lessons to teach. I knew my soul was safe and that my future was bright. Know that Lucifer IS real, and she loves us so much she turned on her father for us. Let go of your brainwashing and embrace Her and Her flame. Understand that where Jehovah demands obedience and cruelty, all Lucifer requests is for you to be the best you that you can be, even if it means straying from her Light as the Lightbringer. Always have determination. I believe that by fighting tyranny in this world and the next, we can finally rid ourselves of oppressive, abusive institutions and live happy, free lives. Instead of proselytizing to others who don't need to hear it.

Genuinely - and I'm sure it's been said before, but - genuinely appreciate you leaving mistakes in the videos. So often I feel disheartened to try new things because the videos I see cut out mistakes or are of people who are already experts and I feel like I can't reach that level. When you let us see the times you mess up, it shows us that it's normal, it's part of any hobby, any learning journey, and makes it way less stressful to risk "failure".

Quality craftsmanship _does_ exist in China, but it comes down to the individual taking pride in their work, as culturally it's shortcuts and facades that's rewarded. By the point of mass-production that something like this represents, forget it. If it's not contract work for a foreign company that's doing their own QC, it's pure dice-roll, with not the best odds.

Hi Steve, love the channel. In the video you said you were going to hold the HDMI port to the board with pliers. You didn't need to do it, but I have a suggestions if you ever do need to use that option. If you have one take an alligator clip and add some heat shrink to the teeth. It will hold the part down without damaging anything.

I was talking to my screen the whole time, as if you could hear me...but I was saying not to put the wire underneath like a trace. That, and the big dollop of solder mask you put under there lifts the HDMI port up and doesn't allow the pins to sit flush with the board. It's so much easier to put the port on the board first, THEN run a bodge wire on top. Of course I'm commenting before I've watched the whole video 😆 So now I get to find out what happens in the exiting conclusion! Love your stuff. I know how difficult this stuff is, although I haven't done nearly as much tiny SMD stuff as you have.

I'm betting it came from the factory properly soldered, but the problem was that they had that board made for a slightly different HDMI port. One with the pads slightly offset. It's close enough, but the solder over all wasn't making enough of a mechanical connection, so it just ripped off the pads. It's amazing that only one pad came up off the board. Also, using solder mask on both sides of the wire to keep it in place is something I'll have to keep in mind. Silly simple idea, but I've just never though of doing that before.

A friend of mine showed me a trick which has sorta revolutionized how I do port replacements. Basically what you can do is get a tiny drill (I payed like 5£ for 10 of them - mine are 0.5mm) and use a small dremel/drilling machine to drill a tiny hole in the edger of the "mounting feet" or whatever the correct English translation is. The put a hard piece of steel wire the same thickness as the drill trough the holes when it's mounted on the board. When it's soldered the small piece of wire now keeps everything secured - even if someone rips fairly hard at the port. Have yet to see a port which has been fitted in this way fail.

@12:24 when you turn the board there is a 0 Ohm resistor crocked over what looks like a spot for a transistor. I that from factory because it doesn't look like it flew there from the heat gun (The solder is to "solid"). If it is factory it just looks super weird

Great fix. A suggestion, when drag soldering use the much larger tip (like at 10:01, you need to overlap at least two pins to reduce the chance of shorts) with a ton of flux and as light a pressure as possible. Yes, the stray pad didn't help. Some pre-tinning of the connector pins beforehand (looks as though that was never done in production) and straighten the connector before fitting to avoid stress (personal, physical and viewer).

What video did you watch? At various times throughout the video, around 12:20 or so especially, you see he's dislodged components. You can see a 0 ohm resistor that's rotated and barely on its pads, for example. This was a messy video. Don't call bad fixes great.

@@Those_Weirdos I tend not to be so ruthless, as I'm sure others will be. The 0 Ohm resistor appears to be a jumper across two pads of what may have originally been a transistor or similar, and may have been installed that way during manufacture

I get most of it from Epedemic Sound. It's a subscription based thingy, but they have some cracking tracks!
