The reef at 11:47 is my handiwork. I've been digging that thing for a month and gotten well over half an ounce out of it. Mind you, the angle of it has made for some very hard work. I've also run into Josh a few times he's a top bloke. If you ever see a silver jeep out that way, pop over and say hello. It's always great to meet new people out in the bush

My wife says that if it isn't big, it's not worth the effort 😭 In 1984 I was detecting with a Compass 240 in Gulgong NSW and had a huge find. In an old working site a ground depression caught my eye. Detecting gave an encouraging signal, digging down 6" I discovered a corner of a chrome bumper bar. Disappointment soon followed, the EK Holden was still attached. It was dumped, to plug an old shaft (safety). Returning home I told the wife 'Big is not everything'.

Seeing the capture bottle reminded me of another way to tell someone is a prospector or rock hound: they've always got and easy open top but securely fastened plastic bottle about, often a repurposed empty from vitamins or painkillers.

Seeing the puddler. Reminds me of using a bucket or 4 of water, 44gallon plastic drum cut in half and a big round nose shovel to get the clay to break up. You puddle it and mix thoroughly for several days before even trying to extract the concentrates. Often the gold would be in the bottom couple of inches of the puddle if you worked it well and you could ditch the top 80% of the mix.

We had a piece of land up behind Wandilligong that had a dredge hole. They had dredged the whole valley. The dredge had been moved somewhere else or scrapped. So many shafts around there. I have some survey maps somewhere that I marked mines on that weren't on it already. There is a huge chasm where they had stoped out a quartz reef from the surface that runs at least 100m down the hill side. Creswick is a great spot too. Lots of holes there still as well. It is weird that you have Lake St George on one side of the road and the water is brown and then a few hundred metres over the other side is the blue lake with bright blue water.
