if you have any braken fern around you, pull it out and squish up the base of the stalk near the roots. the gel like sap is good for ant bites and stings.

Hey Chris, great video. I had those ants in my backyard as a small boy, NSW bush but the same bastard ants. The sting can be mild if they just stab you once but if they start giving you the juice then they become hell spawn. Take some antihistamine tablets, that can help I have found, not medical advise :) Great gold + brutal ants = awesome video. Cheers.

You are very far into the bush, a far distance from help if you have a reaction. I can relate to ant stings. You have your bull ants. Down in NC, US we have imported fire ants, they hurt a bit, leave a little red goose bump, but often it's a swarm, but once I got stung in the finger by an ant I couldn't id. For over 24 hours it felt like my hand had been burned and if I touched something with that hand for that 24 hrs. or so, it felt like it was over a big flame. I so a toad, about 2 inch in diameter jump by their hole, he was dead befor he got a foot away, only saw a few go after him. Bet the bull ant den was real close to your gold bonanza.

Those fire ants have got into Australia, and are ravaging parts of South East Queensland. Various levels of government are trying to stop it spreading further. They found a colony near the container terminal in Sydney, but managed to kill that. I hope those things are eradicated, because it would profoundly effup our way of life, and wipe out a lot of native animals that are already threatened. 😬

  • @putteslaintxtbks5166

@madcatjo Sorry to hear that. The fire ant got into the south US and spread quickly and sounds like are there to stay. While stationed in N.C. in the late 1970's, I got stationed at a little place in the woods with about a dozen fellow Marines, about 20 miles from anything but woods. Alot of wildlife, like deer and black bears, lizards, snakes, etc. One day one of us had been out mowing the acre or two of grass around the building we sleep in, and had an office in. He said "We're going to war, we've got fire ants" and we got a camp fire set up, a metal bucket of water and began pouring boiling water into about 20 or so, about 8 inch high fire ant hills and a every few week for that whole summer we would find a half dozen new hills or some that we must've missed getting their queen and recovered. After my 8 months there, we did cut their numbers, but new ones were still being found. The boiling water worked fairly well, but if we had added a few drops of dish soap befor pouring, I think it would've worked better. At least they have their hills that make it easier to find their nests, unlike your bull ants that just have a hole in the ground
