'It's freezing!': British Army's new Gurkha recruits arrive in UK
New Gurkha recruits have arrived in the UK ready to start the next phase of their training in North Yorkshire.
For some of the 170 recruits arriving from Nepal to a cold and damp Manchester Airport in three groups over a two-day period, it was the first time travelling in an aircraft.
The recruits' new home for the next nine months will be Infantry Training Centre Catterick, where they will be put through their paces in a bid to join the Brigade of Gurkhas.

I met a Gurka in Malaysia who was working as a security guard. Seeings as the pay in the British army is extremely high compared to wages in Malaysia, I was confused as to why he was in Malaysia, instead of, perhaps, staying in Britain. Much love from the US army. I was attached to a British unit in Catterick and got to see the Gurkhas, it was a really cool experience.
I grew up in a town where Gurkhas trained. It was not uncommon to see them out and about in civies (always looking very respectable in well pressed suits) or in their uniform. They were always very pleasant and polite and welcoming. I'd always wave at army lorries that went past me, and the Gurkhas always waved and smiled out the open back. It always brought a massive smile to my young face to see them all leaning in to wave and smile ✨ In todays times it may not _"sound right"_ to label them all with the same impressions, but when every one I have met and seen, and I read all these comments (not just here, but anytime I've read about them) of other peoples experiences of them and their people being so decent, it not only deserves to be said. It should be said.

Thank you for your service. UK is proud of you guys
They are always so smart. Totally different from home grown recruits when you see them around catterick.
Well done Boys good luck on the future
God bless these warriors, I'm glad they're on our side 🇬🇧
Good luck to each and every one of you. 👍
Fabulous guys - welcome and thank you for enlisting in our armed forces. You are already legends in my eyes!
