It's 'fantasy' to expect China to kneel down to the US: Expert | East Tech West

Ғылым және технология

Victor Gao of the Center for China and Globalization says the U.S.-China trade war is the "wrong war to fight" and neither side will be able to win. He was speaking at a panel along with Adam Balukonis of MSCI.

Free trade does not mean you buy one dollar from me and I buy one dollar from you. The competition still exists between each other. If your prices are high I don't have to buy from you, but if my prices are cheaper than other countries you will buy from me. America bought so much from China, it is because China has the ability to produced the goods with lower prices than America or other countries. Free trade just mean there are no tariffs or lower import taxes between the two countries. This is my interpretation of the meaning of free trade (Freedom of speech, just my own opinion).

US is crying out loud because they know that China is going to overtake them very soon. All the bull shits and trade wars are designed to slow or neutralize China. Free trade is a loose word used by US. For more than 500 years, the western powers have dominated and colonized the world. They are not used to the idea that China will be their boss soon. In transition period, there will surely be a fight to survive just like when one chops a chicken and let it bleeds. The chicken will struggle violently for a while and then silence. But i really hope that China and US could colloborate with each other and prosper together.

How to have a level playing fields? First you and your managers must have mastered the Chinese language, people and cultures and understand the fast, innovative and quick adjusting Chinese market places. The major top companies should be doing alright except those middle level foreign companies. Their internal markets are very competitive 'dog eat dog' sort of pricing. You may have to work extremely hard to always stay on the frontline of technology and win the trust of your staffs and work amicable within the Chinese rules to differentiate from others. The deficiency is not recognising that China is the main focus and center point of the market place where changes revolve around it. It may not be the place where technologies are create but it is where all the actions and reactions are multiplying and force the change on the rest of the world to adjust to its gravity pull. The world know very little about China but the Chinese know a lot about the world!

I don’t agree with the Chinese guy’s statement because in order to resolve the US-China trade deal, the China must need to change its behavior, that’s to stop US intellectual properties, and some other important trade barriers. Bottom line, the China must follow the international regulations which unfortunately she is not since her entry into WTO in 2001. He said China will never knell down to US on trade issue, but who knows she might be forced to, in near future like China had to be knell down after humiliating defeat against western forces particularly the Great Britain which as a result, the HK was on leased for 99 years. If this is not kneel down when the victor countries forced their terms on China what else he is he talking about. I think he needs to read those Chinese humiliating defeats against the western powers and of course including the Japan’s military power!

China *has* followed all international regulations. There's a reason the US doesn't dare say "unlawful trade," only "unfair trade." China actually took the US to court in the WTO, and the WTO decided in favor of *China* , ordering the US to pay a few billion for breaking WTO rules. China has done an amazing job learning the rules of the game, and coming out on top. Keep in mind all the rules were written by the US, all the organizations were set up by the US. It's just that the US never imagined it could ever lose at its own game - notice how Trump's been threatening to pull out of international organizations and treaties ever since he took office? Yes, in the past China did have to kneel before foreign powers. What Mr. Gao is saying is that China won't be doing it in today's scenario. Force of arms certainly isn't going to work on the 2019 version of China.

How many Civil Wars have the China continent has had in its history? Ah' let us speak truth. Nobody seems to be talking about the biggest problems of China. Especially China itself. What are they? The biggest problem for China is, that they have 1.5 billion mouth to feed, and not nearly enough arable land to produce enough food for all its people, and for their domestic animals like chicken, pigs etc... Therefore, China has no other choice, but to keep working like crazy, producing lots and lots of all kind of cheap things and continue selling it, so they can buy enough food for themselves. Also, they have to buy great amounts of raw materials from which those things will be manufactured. Apart from this, the other great problems that China is facing, is - growing competition from many other Asian countries, where labor cost is even lower, with regard to simple items of everyday use, and with regard to high tech, competition from developed countries. Another huge problem for them will be, when in two or three decades, those hundreds of millions of workers will reach retirement age, and will have to be paid some age pension and be supported by the next generation of workers in the shrinking labor market , due to automation etc... China already have some unemployment problems, like in any country, but their unemployment will be huge in comparison, because such great population.. In other words, the future is not a very rosy or easy for China -- just a lot of hard work.

Most of those in power in China were farmers not too long ago. They over estimate their wisdom and contradict their philosophy. The west may be going through a midlife crisis, but it has accumulated experience. One thing history has taught us, oppression never works, and it is the individual that constitutes the state, not the other way around. Without the individual, you will not no how to traverse through the dark. 1.3 billion people, if even one begins to question the state's authority, it will be the cancer that destroys from within.
