Scientists have recently confirmed that Earth was struck by a mysterious and highly energetic cosmic ray particle. This tiny single particle carried an astonishing energy of over 240 exa-electronvolts, equivalent to the kinetic energy of a high-speed baseball or the impact of dropping a lead brick on your toes from waist height. Named Amaterasu, after the Japanese Sun goddess, this particle is the second most energetic cosmic ray particle recorded to have struck our planet. The most energetic remains the Oh-My-God particle, detected in 1991, which boasted an energy of 320 exa-electron volts.
But where did this particle come from? How did scientists detect Amaterasu in the first place? Finally, and most importantly, why is detecting this particle such a significant breakthrough in physics and astronomy?
The 78th episode of the Sunday Discovery Series answers all these questions in detail.

@@projectxrapture Intelligence is relative. Compared to what else is potentially out in existence beyond our own, humans could be quite dense and lack the capacity for broader universal problem-solving in comparison. We might be able to investigate and uncover the material of a particle and the speed it travelled to us for example, but that really doesn’t mean we’re capable of uncovering truly what it ultimately is relative to the whole universe, its origins, or any purpose behind it - just like an ant knows enough that a penny isn’t food for it to eat, but doesn’t have the capacity to understand the purpose or value of coins to humans. The photosynthesis of a plant is an expression of earth’s intelligence, but you could say compared to a strand of grass, ants are better problem-solvers. So ultimately what we calculate and determine to be so on our own planet doesn’t make the same so for everything else that’s out there, or anything cruising through and making its presence known to us. We already know the same physical laws on earth don’t apply in outer space, so how could one be so sure humans reign supreme as far as intelligence goes in regard to what’s going on out there or what these particles and other things really are?

Alrighty here's my take. The cuttoff applies to particles traveling in the forward direction. But something that may not be considered is that if that light is significantly blue shifted then it's capture cross section will be reduced as well just from the fact that it's now seeing a shorter wavelength. So the cut off might be wrong. As to how these particles ended up with this energy is a whole different thing entirely though. The only thing I could think of would be some sort of momentum transfer like a whipcrack where it starts with a really large mass that gets coupled to a much smaller mass. Super Nova would be a good candidate but as for just appearing from nowhere that can't make much sense. Maybe though the opposite may happen when said particle collides with an oncoming photon it could add velocity even though this would violate conservation of momentum. The only way this would work though would be to model it as an inelastic collision and ignore velocity. This will take the sign dependency away and now we're just working with mass. This makes sense because at speeds so close to light a change in velocity may well be infitesimal and the only measurable part is it's apparent mass. Even though that's a pretty weak argument there has been weirder confirmed like symmetry breaking anyways.

I wonder if it's possible to cause a quark fission reaction in a similar way to a nuclear fission reaction for the purpose of creating particle-antiparticle pairs that could then annihilate resulting in a 100% conversion to energy. I guess if it was possible to create a new type of fission reaction like this, it would've been done already.

Watching the magnetic field lines in the sunspot activity i wonder if the looping lines twisted into loops form a particle accelerator that energizes particles in motion until they break containment and hit earth in an accelerated higher energy state. The sun is a high gravity, high energy, high density environment and produces exotic particles. The void could just be an energy field produced by something else as a much larger version.

There has been a shift in the way we are thinking and, although I don't think that I am the only source, I was one of the first to feel that something had changed and we would have to adapt ourselves to the new situation. I live already 12 years longer than was planned and that's not good news for the 'early' birds, but it will be a temporary situation we can 'control' on condition that we're willing to see the whole picture. The only thing I can do is using my own ability to LEARN faster than average and that can't be tested with the current intelligent tests that only measure the ba-intelligence (ba = male & material, the Master, God), but I got a unique supporting team of four brilliant men and they have followed me 24/7 for (at least) the last decade. *Amaterasu* is a surprising choice - not just a goddess, but the goddess of insight (and there is a major problem with understanding what we have to change before the reality builds a wall which we cannot pass before we've learned what we need to know). Amaterasu had a mirror and - instead of telling what people did wrong - she showed them the image in the mirror. They became angry and wanted to teach her a lesson. They took her mirror and demanded to look in the mirror herself. She started to cry and not because the image of her face was ugly, but because people had told her over and over again that she was an ugly and unattractive creature buy now she saw that all of this was a lie. She didn't say a word, but took her mirror back and went living in a cave. It was the day that the sun disappeared and until now, she refused to come into the light again. That's the original story of Amaterasu and these kinds of stories belong to the ka (female & spiritual, the Teacher, Source). We're living in a ba-only world for thousands of years already and my mission in this life was to restore the ART of telling stories. The Teacher will free your ability to learn the necessary and the Master asks your loyalty and respect. Both are important, but at the moment everything is out of balance and if we don't make the necessary changes asap, the reality is going to teach us a hard lesson. Curiosity is a learning tool, but if you want to know the truth, you first have to learn to accept it unconditionally. History runs in circles and if we really want to change the future, we'll have to change the past first (and choose for different junctures). We're all autonomous cells of the oldest organism on earth, the organism is immortal, but we (her autonomous cells) will never be and that' s the GOOD news (because we always leave the mess for the generations to come). There are more masters than students in our classroom for the moment, but (at least) we have learned to learn!

I do not know if I am asking these questions correctly ... (please excuse my grammar) How magnetic is Earth (not referring to its orbit around the sun)? Was earth targeted? You said your equipment can analyze the timing and the angle back to the origin. How wide was this ray, whole Earth wide or narrow covering a small area? Is there any place on Earth more magnetic than others? Were the energetic cosmic rays drawn to something, like the positive and negative charges between the sky and the ground that produce lightning? & would these charges produce a visible change in the northern lights?

I was very intrigued by this documentary. After hearing all the scientific world's possibilities as answers, I was disappointed that they left out a fifth obvious possibility. Putting it bluntly, this could have had it's origin right with in our galaxy and from an artificial structure. Furthermore, built by highly advanced beings with technology, we are yet to conceive or build ourselves. So yes, what many are quick to dismiss because of their limited mindset, ignorance and arrogance, we are left without answers for decades or even centuries. Remember, in our or most recent history, we had generations believing the earth was flat? Also, that everything revolves around the earth, including the sun? We have come a very long way , and need to be more creative and innovative in our explorations and new discoveries. Be openminded to the possibilities of much higher minds out there than ours. We can't simply believe we're the only intelligent beings in this vast expanse called in our language "Space"? We should have by now learnt our lessons from ignorantly assuming, especially when it came to colonizing placed already inhabited by others.

A black hole generates high gamma particles, but they are not always the same in energy. Deviation of a norm can yield much higher particles, but these would be fewer. An exceptional particle could then be emitted once every blue moon, and with that have an extreme energy that's really high. Theoretically, if the deviation over time increases when t goes infinite, so can the deviation, resulting in exceptional particles. These, however are not 'special' particles, but just another high gamma, but extremely high.

doesn't black holes attract energy and matter and swallow it ? not even light can escape ! but i am listening to your argument , what if we are in the receiving side of the exit of a black hole that is in another dimension of time and space ? its said you can't destroy energy or matter but only change one to another ! that said where does all the matter and energy and even particles of light go that is swallowed up by black holes in our 3D dimension of time and space ? after all what is being swallowed up by black holes in our dimension has to be going somewhere does it not ? read the article entitled "Von Braun's 50 Year Old Secret" by Richard C. Hoagland ..this tells the story of our first time we launched Explorer 1 to orbit the earth, but shortly after it left the earth's gravitational pull of earth, Explorer 1 totally vanished off radar that was tracking it ! then some moments later Explorer 1 reappeared back on radar tracking, only this time it was traveling some 600 mph faster and some 600 miles farther away from the earth in a higher earth orbit after it's rocket booster had already ran out of fuel ..i don't believe in voodoo or magic so why did it do dat as bugs bunny would say ? nasa knows so why don't you ? the answer is in the story of our favorite Nazi Von Braun the father of Rocket Science along with 1600 of Hitler's inner circle of Henchmen who were smuggled into the United States during operation Paperclip that begin in 1945 and lasted till 1963 when JFK was murdered in Dallas ! Von Braun sit on his ass for over a year as commander in charge of NASA waiting for the Russians to launch Sputnik 1 that began the "Space Race" followed by the "ARMS RACE" of Thermal Nuclear explosives by the 10's of 1000's that can render the earth to be a nice quiet neighborhood for the next 10,000 years ! it was Richard C. Hoagland himself who came up with the phrase "NASA, never a straight answer", but it was your generation of millennial and your offspring who have interpreted NASA not knowing anything or doing anything that is exactly what the goddamn NASA NAZIS want you to believe while today they are in hyper space traveling to the nearest stars in craft like the TR3B Black Manta's as part of our 5th division of the corporate military industrial complex that President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned the american sheeple about that was already here as president "IKE" was force to sign the NASA charter by the Nazis we smuggled into the United States during operation paperclip as that is what Nazis do , get it ?

@@donniebaker5984 You start off on one subject and end with another. For the first query, I say where's the evidence? Secondly, the 4 known and proven (the only ones proven) dimensions are 3 of space and 1 of time. Where matter goes in a black hole is pure theory, and so is the singularity at the center of black holes. No one can say but speculate. Which is fuzzy data. As is the rest of your account of Explorer 1's mission history. Hoagland is at best a wanna-be pseudoscientist. I take it you're not a NASA fanboy.

They must have some impact and outcome result, adding to the electron soup of the planet's matter, thus adding to the matter, growing the planet, increasing mass and gravity. What is the net effect of this increasing gravity on the future of life in 3 to 4 billion years?

@@TheSecretsoftheUniverse So because we detect Pions, Kaons, Muons, Neutrinos, Photons, Electrons and Positrons, we can then assume that we were hit with the "unseen" original particle? Isn't there instruments in space that can DIRECTLY detect the particle or do we only see the "side effects" observed of the particle and never actually the particle itself? Since the particle is so small, what is the molecule model of what it looks like? Without that model, how do know it exists? Isn't more likely that Pions, Kaons, Muons, Neutrinos, Photons, Electrons and Positrons sometimes enter our planet in a massive sort of way from space?
