It's Back! Vital Tests the 2021 Niner WFO 9 RDO
Спорт
Niner's WFO name has been notably absent from the line and riders have been asking for its return. Happy to oblige, Niner has revived the WFO in the form of a 170mm travel 29er built upon its current RDO carbon frame. Everything mountain bikers have come to expect from long-travel bikes is present - a 180mm FOX 38 fork, FOX X2 rear shock, 200mm rotors, and meaty tires are mounted on all five builds. @vitalmtb had two testers give the new Niner WFO a go and share their impressions.

This review alone so far knocks pinkbike out the park
This terrain looks a lot like my first ever Enduro Race venue.. The Battle Born Enduro in Reno! 🧐 Awesome review and video as per usual ✌🏼
Great video review, thinking about getting this bike. I’m just shy of 5’11 you think the medium would be too small? Keep up the great work!
What a machine!
Nice Reno trails!
I've been wondering when a new WFO would drop. I bought one of the 2009 versions, but while I got a fork for it (a Dorado 29/170mm travel), I was not able to find wheels and tires suitable for DH riding and ended up abandoning the build. That first year frame was ahead of its time.
Who needs a bash guard when you have that lower link
Can it be converted into a mullet in a solvent way? Have you tried it? It should , as the flipchip in raised position corrects the geometry....
How does this compare to the Evil Wreckoning?
Lazy Boy inspired seat tube angle.
I wonder how it compares to a trek slash ?
Some may call it “super enduro” but I prefer the term “country-hill”
So the 9r x01 is worth $4,000 more than a carbon ripmo slx with Fox Factory 38 and X2? Nuts
This bike is definitely for steep heavy and difficult terrain. If you’re not going up in the mountains… don’t show up to your local bike park with packed trails expecting to have brought a suitable tool
GT or Niner? If you had to choose.

I used to ride a Jet 9 and the CVA suspension on Niners is truly special. It doesn't have that "rocket" effect that Ibis, Yeti and Evil have, but it has lots of traction and is efficient. On the downs I used to blow through the travel but wasn't harsh. On the other hand, GT is a solid brand that offers good value, but the ride quality is kind of average in my opinion. Reminds me of Trek bikes. Nothing wrong, but it definitely won't stand out in any way.

I have the e bike version. Its decent. But the odometer says you are going faster than you are so it limits you to 16 mph. You can chip it where it tops out with no limiter to about 28mph. The bike cost $6500 when I bought it last year. www.ninerbikes.com/products/wfo-e9/#ProductSection-product-template
sx on a 4800usd bike should be illegal

And you can get a ripmo SLX carbon with Fox Factory 38 and x2 for $6100.
If that Seat Tube Angle is 77 degrees, my Nukeproof Giga must be 82 degrees because that looks super slack.
@vitalmtb

effective seat tube angle is 77, but yeah, actual is leaned back a bit.

Its a bit of BS as the seat tubes are getting shorter and shorter, so is the height the manufacturers use get their STA numbers from. Stick a 175-200mm dropper in that and draw a line from the center of the BB to the center of the seatpost where the clamp/rails connect. Gonna be pretty lazy for sure.

@@MP-MTB Effective seat tube angle (and TT length) is pretty much always measured at the same height as the top of the headtube, not at the end of the seat tube. But that's still not an accurate way to measure things since tall riders usually have a bit of a saddle to bar drop.

@@HOllyBOni exactly, which is why it's nice to see some manufacturers have increasing seat angle the bigger the frame. Similar to increasing chain stays per frame size
What bikes are, in your opinion, sluggish and like pig 🐖?
Niner always new how to make a bike that easy on the climb ...But to me, the looks of the frame is just NOT NICE, doesn't looks good, as other old models...but this is my taste
🌝
Nine-nerds lmao 😂
A rhetorical question... Why do so many modern bikes come in black? Meh...
Who’s buying a 10k niner???
Suspension clicks are ALWAYS counted from closed. Get with the program Vital..

"Always" is a strong word. True, FOX states in its setup guide to count from closed. However, a number of bicycle manufacturers state to start from open. Regardless, this is why we were explicit in our presentation and that for illustrative purposes, counted from open. Whether we started from open or closed, viewers know our settings and (per the written review)how we changed them during the test.

@@vitalmtb I think your presentation was clear and got the job done so no biggie, but... When you count from closed you are bottoming out the adjuster on a hard surface rather than spinning it out into the ether. With manufacturing tolerances this does make counting from closed slightly more accurate. However 1 click from open is easier to understand than 16 clicks from closed! Accuracy vs comprehensibility
That bike looks like it had a tree fall on the top tube, shame poor thing
That is one unfortunate looking bicycle
No negatives?! Call me cynical but this seemed like a paid advertisement than a review. I respect the hustle though!

hit the even-more-thorough review on our site - discusses the issues we had for sure - www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Niner/WFO-9-RDO-4-Star-XT-12-Speed,33695#product-reviews/4019 - it's a noisy bike and we lost the skidplate pretty early on in testing.
