Same here, neutral is not hard to find at all, I think people are used to a heavier response from the shift lever and push it too hard, but having owned a Triumph previously I have had no issues.

I have had my 1200RS since May. I believe I got the first one in North FL. As long as you have a few years of riding experience, you'll love this bike. It is pretty powerful, the handling and braking are second to none and the riding position is very comfortable. Finding neutral at first was a witch, but has cleared up nicely after a couple of thousand miles. Like the video says, this bike will make you feel very confident after only a few weeks of riding.

I was one of the first to get a 1200RS in the UK. I've had many big bikes and like to ride them hard. Make no mistake this is the best handling hypernaked motorcycle you can buy today. My only regret is that triumph do not yet offer the semi active suspension they are installing on the new RR, as i would have paid the extra cash for it. My only two issues with the bike are first and foremost, it is an absolute proper pain in the ass to get into neutral and secondly I wished that Triumph had given us just 1 extra litre capacity for petrol as it's only 15.5 litres, however that seems to be the way all manufacturers are going unless you buy a touring bike. Other than that, believe you and me after spending nearly nine months with the RS it is utterly awesome and totally unflappable. It makes you feel like your a riding god, but what else did anyone expect....triumph don't make crap handling bikes ;-D

I've had a 2007 Speed Triple for years. I picked it up after my CBR 1000rr was stolen out of my parking garage. I've always thought that if the Speed Triple had 20-30 more horsepower it would be the perfect bike and the new model has that. It has one of the best sounding engines I have heard on a bike. I've been tempted to pick up the new model but haven't had the chance to yet. When the time comes I think I am going to have to get one.

Just bought my first bike with ABS after 35 years of riding. A 14 Street Triple R. My other bike is a 09' Comcours 14 non-ABS. My Triumph is definitely better for warm weather but I will take it out if the temps are in the 50's. The Kawasaki can be out in all weather. The Triumph is a great second bike in my opinion. Nice review.

Nice review! So, I'm purchasing the RS for the exact reason you stated at the end of this review. I currently have a 2022 Pikes Peak which is an amazing bike as you know having reviewed it as well. It is the ultimate long distance, well handling, comfortable bike IMO. My current 2nd bike is a 2016 Xdiavel S, albeit a great motorcycle it's just not the polar opposite of the Pikes Peak compared to the RS. The RS will be the nice weather, mostly back twisty road, occasional track day bike. Obviously the Xdiavel didn't fit the bill for that purpose. I'm picking up my RS this Sunday and looking forward to my own take on the bike. BTW, I asked the dealer about the neutral issue as you and others have reported, the dealer looked at me as if it was the first time he ever heard of this! One other comment. You mentioned the riding position is a little on the aggressive side; however, watching you in the video it appears your almost vertical with very minimal back angle. I did own a Streetfighter V4S prior to the PIkes Peak. Did you find the seating position on the Streetfighter similar to the RS or more aggressive?

I don't understand why going into neutral is an issue, the only time i put my bikes in neutral is on start up which is dumb easy or if i'm lubing my chain. The bike goes into neutral pretty easy as long as the clutch is fully engaged, if i was running though the gears the last thing i would want is it going easy into neutral.

I bought a 2021 street triple R in February. I came from a 05' Roadking. I love my street triple. It is the most fun I've had in years. My only concern is the seat. I can ride comfortably for maybe 3 hours before I really need to stop and give my butt a rest. I am not experiencing the shifting into neutral problem on mine however.. I suggest if you want to save a few thousand dollars just go with the R. I also like having the analog tachometer. The R is a very good choice, so much fun!

I m surprised by the amount of comments about finding neutral. Interestingly I owned a 2011 speed triple and I had the same issue. BUT this was only a thing for me because I needed to have it in neutral in order to get my garage opener out of my jacket pocket. What i m noticing is so many people are used to getting into neutral at red lights. In my opinion this is a bad / amateur thing to do . I was taught to have it in first gear, clutch pulled in , and only one foot down, that way you are ready to take off quickly if necessary. Am I the only one thinking this way ?

I couldn't imagine going into neutral on any public road at a stop. Only time I do it is if I need to fix something at a light. Heck, I have an amazon keychain garage door remote so I just push it with my throttle hand as I am pulling in. That said, I usually have to take a few attempts finding neutral on my Striple. It's fine, neutral isn't ever really needed.

@encyclopractica my rsv4 had 15,000km on it, it’s a known quirk for most euro bikes, you don’t ride the clutch, you slip it at less than a second, it also has a slipper clutch. Only kawasaki has a clear solution for this that you cannot enter into 2nd gear while idling, so you are for sure going into neutral.

  • @motorjack141

    @motorjack141

@encyclopractica if it causes damage you can feel it. The gears will grind or the clutch will feel like it is dragging, but slipping it out into neutral doesn’t feel like any of those.

Man the Speedy 1200 is a truly stunning bike. I'm not sure the RR version is worth the extra £3k but both the RS and RR are amazing bikes. That RR in white is lovely but like I said that's a lot of extra money for a bikini fairing unless you'll make the most of the trick suspension. So yeah, my money would be the RS in black and red.

@@monkmoto1887 I disagree. Just remove the front wing fairings and put the "standard" fairing on. Then it looks in my opinion better than the RR. Which is a great looking bike. But yeah its mostly the price of bit of carbon fibre and active suspension ... and the lower production numbers. All of which makes the extra cost not unreasonable.

The triumph was most comfortable by far. Lots of comments about stiff suspension and neutral. They are actually sprung too soft and most people are bottoming out... and getting to neutral is not an issue for me. Who the hell is constantly trying to find neutral lmao??! yep - i went from a ST3 to the Speed Triple (2019) looking for more grunt and found that it was a far less engaging ride (just stay in 3rd all day) and lost that telepathic flickability I loved in the canyons - more like riding a bull. But man what an engine and chassis. Just begged to be ridden in the triple digit range - pun intended ! In the end I traded it in after a year. Just too much for a commuter, not a great canyon carver, really just perfect for those long open curvy highways. I miss it though.

BTW, I am coming off a 2007 Speed Triple I bought brand new when I worked for Triumph. I thought it might be the last bike I would ever buy. It was so comfortable and had enough power for me. It handled pretty good compared to some of my previous bikes, but when this baby came out I couldn't resist. I had a down payment in a couple of months before they arrived and I don't regret it for a minute. Yes it was pricey, but you do get quite a lot of features and performance for the money. Seeing how I keep my bikes for a long time I figure it was worth it. P.S. I plan on riding GAS Dragon soon. Maybe I'll see you there. Life is short, enjoy the ride.

I regret selling it and I have been debating getting another one. I really loved the throttle feedback and torque response of the 1050 (and Roulette green was pretty awesome too) though I thought the 07 was a little top heavy in turns. So after two days of ownership here’s my two cents on some of your comments on the RS Chase. First I agree, the seating position for a naked bike is slightly on the aggressive side. I’ve decided to purchase some 30mm bar risers which should put me right about where I want to be. Suspension - Albeit set out of the box on the firm side, I find this suspension to be very compliant and only one step lower than the ECS Ohlins on the V4S I owned. Clutch Lever - mine hardly vibrates at all! Finally the neutral topic - I am NOT seeing any of the neutral issues you report and my bike only has 120 miles. It does need a more delicate touch of the foot than most motorcycles; however, it only took me about 40 miles to acclimate to it. I do NOT need to shift up to 2nd down to 1st over and over to find neutral as you describe. I think you’re doing this bike a disservice by scaring folks into not purchasing it due to your reported neutral issue. Maybe you demoed a lemon or I purchased a diamond in the rough 😆

You don’t like the shifter not finding neutral but there’s definitely a bright side because it won’t miss-shift. You can be confident that when you’re getting on it with all the beans, you won’t feel like a putz reving the crap out of the engine while not going anywhere. I fk’n hate that. Good review, I would recommend you try a 2022 BMW S1000R SPORT, I bought mine in June 2021 and have now covered 2,300 miles. It has everything which you advise the Triumph RS SPEED TRIPLE HAS but delivers it better it has a 6.5 TFT screen which is far easier to use than the Triumph and has more information. The bike is set up like the Triumph for a sportier ride as you are encouraged to have a slight lean forward towards the flat bars whilst offering a slightly more open riding triangle (seat you move on back to front and lean off) which alongside the cruise control, heated grips, up/ down shifter, hill hold assist, self cancelling indicators and 80% of 111 Nm/ 86 ft/lb torque coming in from 3,000 makes (165 bhp at 11,000 revs) the bike suitable for commuting/ city riding, longer journeys and as you would put it canyon carving (I live in the UK). I have mine in racing red with red stripe on the wheels and choose to add the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System all backed up by a 3 yr Warranty from BMW and an excellent dealer network. I am constantly attracting positive comments from passersby which is nice to hear others appreciate your bike but even if that did not happen the smile I get before, during and after riding my bike, the pops and crackles that happen when in Dynamic Pro mode (there are 4 riding modes Pro being customisable to your personal needs) just makes me giggle. I am very pleased I got mine and I believe you and many others who enjoy motorcycling will likewise enjoy one as well. Give it a try, I look forward to your opinion on a BMW S1000R Sport.

Sure but then it is about the look & design … and it is becoming very personal as unfortunatly I find for example the front light of the BMW not nice which is a deal breaker for me even if certainly a great bike ! And some may hate the Triumph design… Again down to personal taste 😉

@@bigmathrogers8657 Thank you for your thoughts on what I wrote. I agree choosing a bike is not just how much power it has, whether it has a quick shifter, heated grips, cruise control or how long the warranty is (on a new bike) etc. it is in my opinion very much on how the bike makes you feel both on and off it. Looks, sound, feel will then come into how as an individual you decide which one is for you. I very much like the new Triumph Speed Triple RS - with both it's looks and triple sound but when considering the overall package for me I choose the BMW S1000R sport which for you for valid reasons is not for you. If you or anyone else gets a bike which makes you or them feel the way I feel riding my bike then I know you and they will be very very happy..

Mine is hard to find neutral, takes a real knack. Id be more concerned with the gear shift input shaft sticking out a full 8 x diameter, mine broke clean off the box at 13,000km. I know of a bike mechanic that had his RS do the exact same thing. My service manager said yes it's common for these like it's no issue.

  • @sacredgeometry

The gears are straight cut, in the first couple of thousand miles its going to be a little like that but once they are worn in its fine. So yes. By design. Your clutch lever situation is odd as the clutch should be fully disengaged well before you are that far back. I mean unless you have set it up like that. That doesnt sound ideal though as you are probably going to put unecessary wear on the clutch and how do you know that its completely disengaged before it bottoms out? I normally have my clutch lever quite far back but even that is fully disengaged well before it hits the bars.

It takes years to master finding neutral on all kinds of bikes. Every bike has its own way it wants you to find neutral. This is no joke. I been riding since 1981. I'm only 46. That's 42 years of experience. Shovelheads like to be found in neutral right before you come to a stop. Hunting Harleys taught me that one.
