Not had an issue with finding neutral ever. Remember it is supposed to be 2nd then down to neutral.. 1st to 2nd is designed to not allow you to go into neutral easily to avoid it happening accidentally on upshifts and hitting neutral 😀

How would you compare the fun Factor and low-end torque between this bike and the Yamaha mt-10

  • @derekharper6031

    @derekharper6031

@richardcerritelli9657 I have two mates with MT10's. On rides together I would say they are very comparable. We have swapped bikes and I would say the rs likes being higher in the revs when rolling on the throttle for it to.be as smooth as the mt10. Not sure how much of that is down to the stock pipes I have on the rs with that horrible exhaust valve bs their mt10 with after market pipes. We have done roll on tests and the rs when in the higher what I call powerband has more torque and pulls away a bit from the mt10s. I had a spd triple R 1050 prior and that had a much "friendlier" low torque feel, not so rough at most revs. The rs likes higher revs and hates pulling from low revs so a downshift of 1 or 2 gears is sometimes required in my experience for it to remain smooth.

@@derekharper6031 so it's basically a track bike so the best thing for a bike like this take 1 tooth off the sprocket it reminds me of my old YZ250 off the road racing bike high torque not good for the street in the city maybe a v-twins better for the street something like a KTM 1290 too bad that bikes it's so unreliable the KTM.

@@derekharper6031 Maybe I will consider it I just hope it has enough torque I'm coming from a Hayabusa that's one thing I love about the Hayabusa and zx1400 they don't only have the horsepower they have to torque and that's where the fun is for me personally High horsepower low torque bikes are not fun like the 1000 Superbike class when I go fast I like torque backing me up to unfortunately the riding positions of the Hayabusa and zx1400 no longer agree with my back neck and shoulders. So I have to downsize.

@@onthebackwheel i got to test ride the speed 1200 yesterday and I did find the quick shifter was a bit lagging on upshift , less lag the more your on it. I found the suspension fine and a lot more plush than my 765 RS. I also found N most of the time which was something i was a bit worried about. Overall a great bike with character.

I always buy Japanese motorcycles, never owned a European, mainly because I like the reliability of the jap bikes, I'm considering buying this bike, how was Triumph reliability in your opinion? Have you had issues with your bikes? Do you recommend buying the extended warranty?

  • @Scootir185

I've owned this bike now for 5 months and 8000 miles. This is hands down the best review I've seen on the bike. Agree with everything you said, right down to the crap paint. I don't mind the suspension myself. I also have a SDR and found over many miles I prefer the Triumph to my surprise. For commuting the smoother bottom end of the triple is less tiring than the off the line hit of the Duke, especially if you're stuck in heavy stop and go. And get it on the boil and it hauls every bit as hard as the Duke. Not to mention that I've had zero issues with the Triple but the Duke has had 3 major component failures within the first year of ownership. Both absolutely awesome to ride however -think it's hard to pick a bad bike in this category at the moment.

Thx Buddy, your review is more than helpful, the suspension has always been a major ? for me although not a deal breaker, like you I believe the suspension, with a few$$ more could be massaged into a more acceptably compliant setting, a bit of a worry that these bikes seem to have a few electronic issues for some owners, maybe the electronic problems are nothing more than new model teething problems that will take another generation for Triumph to sort out, despite having a love affair with this bike since it came out I would probably shelve this years Speed and see how it develops, my current 1050 RS which is, in its own right a fantastic ride will have to keep me on the road for another year.

Also most complain the suspension is to harsh as you have. Would be interested to know if it's just uncomfortable or does the bike get unsettled over bumps and throw shapes.

It seems that a lot of the problems have been fixed for the -22 model. I had to choose between 21 & 22 in April since the dealer got both and good thing I bought the newer. Only had 1 issue during 8000km and that was the selecting of track mode which got figured out when I got the bike to the dealer. The speedy for sure comes alive at the track so if you are not taking it there I would recommend one of the rival bikes. All in all really satisfied myself to this bike and will probably own it for many years.

I own one of these (up on my channel if anyone's interested) and the errors and niggles have been insane as well. The Bluetooth navigation is fucking insanity, I spend 20 minutes having to clear down all my Bluetooth connections on both the bike and phone and reconnect (in the middle of nowhere in the rain and cold this is not a great user experience)- messaged triumph with no reply. I got low oil pressure warning light which the manual states do NOT turn the engine back on, and had to ride 60mile to get home. My MCS was broken and is being recalled, brakes are bing re serviced as they are terrible. It's being picked up tomorrow to have all sorts replaced meaning I'm without a bike for the foreseeable few weeks But I still love the bike... It's gorgeous, and just an amazing ride every time.

The suspension stiffness problem is mainly caused by the tires, changing the things change drastically. Try another ones . In my case I have tried two, contisport which heats up immediately and grips at s21 levels, and contirace that for me and with the climate of the Canary Islands it is perfect. Since I bought it I have removed two compression clicks, but with the contirace I only remove one because the tire absorbs a lot together with the suspension, doing a perfect duo job. Before the speed 1200 rs I had the 1050 rs so I know what I'm talking about. A friend has also bought it from me and told me that s21 also works very well and another guy told me that with s22 it also works much better. I already have almost 11000 kms on it and I can say that it is the best motorcycle I have ever had, and among them there has been street r 08', tuono factory V2 07', ktm superduke r 17', Speed 1050 rs and currently I also have a Tiger 1050 08'

Your check engine light was lit up because the ECU is really sensitive it's constantly receiving signals from every part of the bile. Its likely that as you were I think you said you were switching through the modes when it lit up, it probably received a signal when you were between modes settings. The check engine light will stay on until you turn the bike on and off a set period of time or you perform the reset code/sequence . If you get the service manual (usually need to search the web to find a free version ) download it and look through there you will not only find the sequence to reset all the error codes & check engine light, but probably answers to all those other little things that annoy you along with all the solutions that will make them a thing of the past. But then you need to go back and edit in an update

Oil leaks, issues with the maintenance reminder being set for the year 2000 and of course the cherry on top- the torque assist clutch which is acting really funky. It slips, the friction zone is really vague- sometimes its right where it should be other times it takes a bit to find it. The day before it went back to the dealer, it was slipping around a corner and then slammed. The RPM kicking up seems a little issue now. I'm looking forward to a Streetfighter V2 soon.

I have 6000 miles on mine. First day I set the sag/ preload front and rear to about 2/10 of maximum. After a few weeks of commuting, I went to the Tail of the Dragon (NC- USA) and actually had to stiffen it up a bit. I weigh about 155 lbs naked and take my weight off the seat over concrete bridges and hard bumps on my 100 mole round trip commute. I know the suspension is never going to be plush, but on any sporting bike it shouldn't be. This is my 3rd Triumph, second Speed Triple and by far the best bike I ever owned out of the all my bikes. It does have some quirky dash issues, but I have mostly gotten used to it now, no major issues with it for me so far. Finding neutral was tough at first, but after a few thousand miles and a slight adjustment to the shifter lever (I adjusted it down a bit lower.) I have had mostly no issues finding neutral anymore. Thanks for the video. Stay safe. Keep riding and making videos.

Just a bit more info, I used to work at a Triumph dealership and we found that most bikes come in "set up" for a 180-200 lb rider. Also that most riders of that weight would still want a bit softer setting. Since I dialed mine back up a touch in NC, I have left it and it feels pretty good. I wondered if it took a while to "break in" the suspension.

Can't speak for the Speed Triple, but my street triple was hard to find Neutral, when it was brand new. Now I can go to Neutral every time. Could be from learning the quirks of the bike, or the transmission is properly worn in.

I have this exact bike and love it. I've found, with the display issue not always behaving on startup can be related to the key fob. Keep the battery in the fob fresh, and sometimes if I turn the fob off and on (the Triumph logo is a button) the bike wakes right up. It's a little odd.

Yup suspension way too hard, I took 4 full turns out of the fork spring rate to get the fork sag correct. Neutral, absolutely difficult, I turn the tip of of my foot in so my boot is on a noticeable angle then I can find Neutral without going past it. Its also far easier 2nd down to Neutral. Track mode, stop, Neutral, select track then push and hold the x select stick, then wait a few seconds without touching throttle. I do it everyday, issue free.

I had one of the 1st 1200RS in Qld (notice that's where you are) Not one issue, no electrics fault at all. I also replaced the battery in the fob, was given connection issues now and then. After replacing the battery, no more problems. Have the Leiker exhaust and did away with the butterfly valve. (oh repainted it two weeks after it) Here's a video done a while ago kzread.info/dash/bejne/na6JxpWefrDAm9o.html Also regarding the suspension, yep it's hard. I tried the settings mentioned in (I think Ride magazine) Helps, but still would prefer it to be softer. Forks - Compression default 15 clicks from fully in - Rebound default 15 clicks from fully in.: --- Compression all the way out >22 clicks from fully in (Minimum for Compression) --- Rebound 22 clicks out Rear Shock - Compression default 20 clicks from fully in -Rebound default 16 from fully in --- Compression all the way out >22 clicks from fully in --- Rebound 14 clicks from fully in (Added two clicks)
